I requested an estimate for installing hardwood floors in my home, and an in-home appointment was scheduled for April 15th. I received a confirmation call regarding the scheduled appointment the prior business day.
The service provider arrived 40 minutes late for the scheduled appointment. I was disappointed that I did not receive a telephone call concerning the delay, and there was no apology for the tardiness upon arrival. While I do understand that delays occur, a telephone call regarding such a significant delay is simply common courtesy. I did not feel that that the provider respected the value of my time. As reported previously, the first words from the provider was a list of things his company did not do.
It is now May 4th, more that two weeks later, and I have yet to receive an estimate from this company. In the interim, I have worked with, and have has several contacts with, two other companies from which I received estiimates during the same timeframe.
I will not use this provider and cannot recommend this company.

Very disappointed. Emil Blake came to my house and gave me an estimate. It was in writing and very thorough as far as what they would NOT do and what my expectations as a homeowner were. Price seemed fair to me. He offered to come back once the area was demoed to see if floors under laminate could be saved. The first time I called to schedule this second look they lost my message (the secretary stated it was under some other papers) but I thought, no biggee... I just called back a second time.
I took off from work to be home by 3 and I never heard a knock, the dog never barked and by 4:05 I called the office. There were 2 voicemails on my phone Emil was at my house - my ringer was off). Immediately I called his cell, texted, and called the office so I didn't burn the day from work for nothing. He did not pick up his cell and the office was closed. He stated he knocked but I have a hard time buying that since I was home the whole time and my dog never barked. I was in the front room, right by the front door sweeping up some nails from the demo work.
I called the office in the morning when they re-opened to see if we could reschedule. This is when Emil got on the phone and was obviously angry. He started the conversation by yelling, "Didn't you hear my 2 voice messages?" and he "didn't know where I was, but I wasn't home!" I suggested that he may have been at the wrong house as I was home by 3:02, waiting for another contractor who was due between 3 and 5pm. He then described my home and so I know he was there. I was dumbfounded when he continued to yell at me for not being home (although he described my car out front) then he hung up on me stating he " works 10 and 11 hour days and doesn't need the aggravation." Wow! I'm just glad I found out before I signed anything. There is no excuse for this kind of poor customer treatment when there are so many other good quality flooring guys on Angie's list.

"On Wedn. March 20th, 2013, not on the 15th as she stated, I had an appt. with (member name removed) to relook at her floors that I had previously given a bid on Jan. 18th, 2013 ( which was only good if the floor work was all complete by April 1st, 2013. She wasn't going to be ready by then and wanted to do the job in 2 parts after April 1st, 2013. That plus the need to look at the exposed floor she had recently uncovered was the purpose of her call for a relook and rebid. I showed up at 3:40 pm and parked next to the driveway (which had the torn up floor material on it). I rang her bell, knocked on the door and noticed that she had a barking dog in her side yard. With no response and as it was chilly that day, I got into my car and called her cell leaving a message to say I was outside waiting and that the appt was sometime between 3:30 to 4. I waited in my car for 25 minutes until 4:09 pm and then called again leaving a message that I couldn't wait any longer and was moving on to my next scheduled estimate. About 5 minutes later, while I was on the phone and out of the area, I got a call from (member name removed) but as I was already on the phone with another customer, I did not take the call. She called again 5 minutes later but I was still on the phone. Later, when I was able to listen to her message she left,. she said that she had been there since 3 pm and that she acknowledged that I had left 2 messages for her and that I must have been at the wrong address. While I was waiting a total of 30 minutes outside her house, a little boy came to her house and rang the bell, knocked and looked in the living room window and went to the side yard with the barking dog and after a few minutes with getting no response like I did, the little boy left. She admits that she had her ringer turned off and when she called me the next day, she said she had heard her dog barking and admits that since I saw her car and her flooring trash in her driveway, that I was at the correct address. I did everything I could to get her attention so I am naturally upset with having waited for so long with no response from her, then having her place the blame on me because her ringer was off. I can only assume that she was making too much noise cleaning up that she didn't hear me or the little boy during the 30 minute time span that I was there. I could not wait around due to the fact that I had a schedule to keep with other customers. Her not hearing the phone, knocks and doorbell rings therefore, made me late for my afternoon estimates. Everything went smoothly as this company knows what they are doing. We opted for the "Less Dust System" which I highly recommend. It is a little more expensive but completely worth it as it made the clean up easy. Mr. Emil Blake, who I think told me he had owned the company for 50 years, stopped by after the first coat of urethane to check on the job. This was very impressive to me as I have found that most contractors today just aren't that concerned with doing a quality job. Blake Floor definitely wants to do it RIGHT--not just finish it and get paid.
All phone contacts with the company were pleasant, professional, and helpful. The man who came out to bid the job showed up early and knew what was required to do our job. We talked with two other floor companies but they didn't give me the impression that they could handle the scope of the work even though they did bid on the job. The others both advised me to tear out and replace my entire red oak floor because "the repairs" would never match the existing floor and I "would always be able to tell where one room ended and the other began". They couldn't have been more wrong. By using Blake Floor, we were able to save a ton of money, aggravation, and the tremendous mess the tear out would have caused. I feel the price they charged was fair and quite reasonable.
Our floors turned out better than we could have ever imagined. We are 100% pleased. I would advise to read over the rather long handout of "what to expect" carefully. It is very helpful. This was a four day process for us because of the extensive repairs ( that were handled surprisingly quickly ). Different crews came each day but all were respectful of our home, able to answer any questions and very professional. We opted for the water-based finish so we could stay in our home as there was no unpleasant odor.
We were dreading doing this because of the anticipated disruption and mess but it turned out to be a painless and positive experience. Thanks, Blake Floor Co.

Update: After my original review, I was contacted by Mr Blake who was very polite and apologetic. After speaking with him, I believe this to be an isolated incident based on bad timing and other extenuating circumstances. I wish the Blake Floor company all the best.
I called Blake Floor Company for an estimate to install hardwood floors in my kitchen. They scheduled with me promptly for 2/5. Mr Blake arrived on time, was polite and answered my questions. He left and said he would get back to me with an estimate. I left a message a little over a week later to get an update and my message was not returned. I called again on 2/18 (2 weeks after the visit) and spoke to someone who pulled my file and said that an estimate had not been worked up, but she would leave a note that I had called to inquire. I waited another week to call again which brings us to today. I left another message about an hour ago and hope to hear something back soon. I am disappointed since other reviews on this site indicate they do very good work.

The floors ended up looking good. But they did lack some professionalism. They left a window open all weekend and it rained. They also left the apartment completely unlocked. They did come out to check on a deep scratch in the floors and ended up filling it. I would use them again because they had such great prices but I'd expect them to be more professional next time.

owner of company came out to house and bid the job . workers came todo work on the 7th of september. one week later floors are finished except for final coat of polyurethane which will be applied after remodeling of house is done. so far the floors look fantastic, like brand new. i am very happy.

I have used these folks in the past for refinishing my floors and just recently asked for a quote for installation. They did a wonderful job on the refinish and were the least expensive on the installation quote. I will be using them, just have to find a time where we can be out of the area for a while. They are professional and if you call for a quote you will most likely get Emil who is the owner. Recommend them highly.

I hired Blake Floor Company to refinish the hardwood floors in my home. This included two bedrooms, hall, living room, dining room, and kitchen. The house was built in 1947, and I doubt that the floors had ever been finished. They used their "less dust" system when sanding the floors. They repaired a couple of sections of flooring where the previous owner had tried a do-it-yourself patch job. I can't even see where they made the repairs as they matched the wood perfectly. They applied three coats of polyurethane. Since I wanted a natural finish, they did not apply a stain. They started on a Monday morning and I was able to have the furniture moved back into the house on Friday. They did a fantastic job. There was hardly any dust that I had to clean off window sills or uncovered surfaces. The change in the kitchen floor was dramatic, going from a dirty walnut color, to what appears to be a brand new light oak floor. It's better than what I had hoped for. The floors throughout the rest of the house were also done to perfection. What I really appreciated was that they provided a VERY DETAILED list of suggestions before the job even started, reminding me of things I needed to do before their arrival. Also, there was very little odor when I moved back into the house. I strongly endorse this company and their professionalism.

They provided excellent information on what to expect, how to care for them afterward. Luckily we were not living in home yet so did not have to move out. Had oil seal so fumes were major but disipated in about 3-4 days. Estimate appointment, work appointment and all work completed as scheduled. House was cleaned up and very satisfied with work. Floors look brand new and will last another 50 years! Felt price was excellent from all the space completed, the 3 day process and the excellent results.

The entire house is about 3000sqft but obviously we didn’t have the bathroom and kitchen done. The workers were good. They needed a little input but nothing beyond the input you expect that they would need. So they were good. I have recommended them several times.

Two things: First, they did a really nice job with the floors. They look great. Upstairs, there were closet organizers in the closets and they did nice detail work adding a little strip of wood at the bottom to make the corner between the floor and the organizer look nice. They cut out little notches in the strip to fit the organizer.
The main reason I am writing this review, however, is that we were out of town at the time of the job. When we got home and called to check in, they told us that they had been drinking from the water dispenser in the fridge, and somehow it had gotten stuck and spilled water all over the kitchen floor while it was unfinished. Because a wood floor without coating won't dry properly, they had ripped up the wood, replaced it, refinished it. They didn't charge us anything extra.
They could have easily stuck us with the problem. They could have told us the leak happened overnight, and they discovered it when they came in, we would have had no way of knowing. Or, they could have not said anything, refinished the floor, and it presumably would have started to rot a few months later. Instead, they admitted they had caused the issue, fixed it without any intervention from us, didn't charge us, and the floor looks great and you cannot tell the difference. As far as I am concerned, that is exceptional integrity. The kind of service you hope for but rarely receive. I highly recommend them as a result.

This all started several months ago, when I called at least 3 hardwood flooring companies, none of which returned my calls. Being frustrated, I signed up for Angie's List, and decided to research several flooring companies on the list. I then called 3 of them, 2 of which returned my call, Blake Floor was one of them, and I'm very happy they did. I made an appointment with both companies, and both came and gave me estimates. There were 2 reasons I chose blake over the other company, first, Blake's webiste says they have 30 employees, so I knew they did a lot of flooring work. The other company was 2 brothers who did the work. Secondly, Blake's estimate was $4700 vs. the 2 brothers who came in at $7800. I couldn't reconcile myself to paying the extra $3100 for the same work, so I chose Blake, even though they had a similar rating on Angie's list, which is A, I figured when all else is equal, price trumps the deal.
Blake called me and offered me several options for a start time, and we chose Monday, so it would be completed before the weekend. They showed up at exactly the appointed time of 8:00 a.m., and proceeded to setting up, and laying the new floor. It was fascinating to watch them work so fast and so hard, while maintaining impeccable precision. I do have to give a shout out here to the team lead on this job, he did a great job of listening, and offering solutions to a few of the issues I hadn't thought through prior to the flooring being installed, but he did a fantastic job, and deserves a pat on the back for it (hint,hint, Cindy).
The installation was completed in 1 day, and the sanding and finishing was 1 day per coat, when it was done, it was like a work of art,. I wish more contracting companies had the same high standards the Blakes do, but I guess that's why they're so busy, a lot of people already do.
If you're thinking of hardwood flooring, please do yourself a favor, and add Blake to your list for an estimate, you can't go wrong with them. I actually wish I had more flooring for them to do, and that never happens.

The end result was excellent and we are very pleased... Their estimate was the lower of two estimates primarily due to the cost of the flooring replacement related to the pet stain area... They were on time arriving to look at the work for the estiamte and I received the estimate the next day... They arrived on time when the work was supposed to start and finished the work on time...

They were wonderful, prompt and very helpful and patient with all my questions and issues. They never complained when I had to delay the project two times because of my contractor. They contacted me when there were any surprise issues that came up during the installation. The floors look amazing and would highly recommend them to anyone. They definitely know the business of hardwood!

Overall, pretty good job. Did not finish or remove edging in some spots in kitchen so under some counters edging looks sloppy. I did not catch this immediately but the edging was not removed and looks more like they wiped the stain off so it is kind of smeary looking. This was rather disappointing but the rest of the job was done well.

Blake floor did a great job. Both my wife and I were blown away with the results. They arrived on time and made short work of the initial job and were very good about posting update notices on the entry door about what was performed and when they were expecting to return. Despite the damp weather at the time they kept on top of the job, monitoring the drying of the finish so they could get it done as quickly as they could for us. Lots of information both during the quote and after the job too about what to expect, prepare and how to maintain the floor in future. Excellent work!

The master bedroom was carpeted when we bought the home and when we removed the carpet, the old wood floors were spattered with paint and in terrible shape. Blake did a fantastic job sanding and refinishing both rooms and the new trim and thresholds look great. I thought the price was reasonable for the work involved and would recommend this company to any of my friends or coworkers.

They were professional, responsive, and did a fantastic job. We would use them again if we needed to. Highly recommended. Not sure about the exact date we hired them but it was in 2007.

Angies list did a phone interview with her and not a written online review and she did not understand the person doing the interview. The member is contacting Angies List but she said she was unable to do it due to the holidays and when my husband Michael Blake tried to go online to contact Angies List. Their server was down. Very prompt from the start. Had the job bid during the home inspection. On the 1st day of the job, the crew was on time and immediately hit the ground running. The head guy on the crew was named Daniel and was amazing. Great attention to detail and would listen to all your concerns. Nothing was a problem for this guy. If you had a concern, the answer was "no problem". I was very thankful to have him running the show.
