Bill was recommended by my boss. He is friendly and straightforward and primarily competent. The appearance of the finished job was wonderful and I was pleased. I talked with him afterward about doing additional work for us because we have a house that needs a lot of TLC and NOT of the DIY variety, Aside from his commenting that the job cost him more than he made (and we would have, without hesitation, paid the extra cost if he explained the problem), two things occurred that made me not pursue his help any further: (1) In an unrelated conversation, my boss reported to me that "Bill says you need a hundred thousand dollars worth of work on your house." I thought it was the height of unprofessionalism for Bill to gossip about the work he was doing for me or the state of my habitat. (2) Within a couple of years the work that he did failed and the door and jamb started sinking, so I had to call Leeper Construction to replace it. Leeper found that there was no footing under the door and that is why it was sinking. He installed the footing and repaired the door and that seems to have worked! I liked Bill and his crew. They were quiet and polite, as well as considerate. But it was very clear he was not interested in helping us fix our house. I think it was too difficult. If you own an older home that needs repairs it is difficult to find competent (even incompetent) remodelers/carpenters because it is so much easier and profitable for them to install new cabinets in a five year old kitchen than it is to repair the sinking floor in a 40 year old bathroom. They would all rather take the easy jobs, and I understand that. DISCLAIMER: I am unsure of the date of the work, but I do know it was sometime between 2003 and 2009. I am also uncertain of the exact cost, but it seemed very reasonable to me and I did not have a problem at all with his business practices. He used good materials and showed pride in the work.
Description of Work: Replace walk-out basement door, jamb and all, and install new storm door.
