Wedding Planning, Reception Halls
I don't really know where to start.
It would be completely easy to get on my hate-horse right about now, considering how hard Cedar Creek's owners tried to swindle my family and otherwise ruin my wedding experience at their resort last weekend.During the planning process itself, Linda Ordway was frequently obtuse when it came to answering questions. She hastled our wedding caterer about trying to convince us to spend more money--and even tried to hoodwink him into paying money for an event she was hosting. She tried to charge us $50 to set up chairs. She never provided a complete inventory of items available to us. She never clearly outlined what amenities would be available to us either. All of this could have been potentially overlooked as this is their first wedding season being open for business. Right?
Wrong. Right after my ceremony the groundskeeper was sent to remind me and my entire 40+ wedding guests to be off the property by 12pm the following day. We had paid and (supposedly) signed a contract to be able to stay until 12pm on Monday. The rest of our reception was spent trying to figure out why Linda herself had said one thing, and let us sign for another. We ended up paying almost $400 on top of the $5,800 we had already spent. In short--our wedding reception (ya know, the funnest part of the wedding) was ruined. Our bad for signing a bad contract--right?
Wrong. The next day Linda sent people traipsing through the grounds and --our private sleeping rooms-- on self-guided tours. Not just one group either: three. In the late afternoon, Greg Ordway (the other owner) approached us to give us a time limit on the pontoon boat--saying it was reserved for another group's use. The paddle boats were also towed away without a word and stored on the other side of the lake--presumably for the use of the other group (which didn't touch them). All in all, it took a lot to keep my mother from throttling the owners. Our best man, wedding planner and my lawyer sister-in-law fought for hours during the wedding reception to try and save our experience. In the end the owners of Cedar Creek got more money out of us, AND continued to degrade the rest of our weekend. We left in a hurry, fully intent on letting people know about their business practices so other people don't make the same mistake.
These people charge more than a pretty penny and are only out for your money. They are not honest or straight-forward folk. They don't care about your event or your big day. I honestly hope they go out of business soon, rather than hurt the best day of other people's lives. What happened to us simply isn't right or fair.
