On the morning of June 21 one trunk of a three-trunk willow tree growing in the wetland behind our home blew down into our yard and against the house. Fortunately, there was no damage to speak of, but there was the matter of removing the tree. I called three services, one of which was Ryan's Tree Care, Inc. Ryan Cox came out that same day to bid the removal. In talking it through with him, I observed that it might be a good idea to remove the remaining two trunks, since the tree had been compromised and one of the remaing trunks looked like it might damage a neighbor's property if it fell. The location of the tree about twenty feet into the wetland and my very narrow end of the cul-de-sac side yards made damge to my lawn as well as those of my neighbors likely if carting the tree sections out conventionally. Ryan came up with the idea of parking a crane on my driveway, hoisting the tree sections up and over the house and setting them down into the cul-de-sac, where they were further cut up and hauled away. He was able to put the bid together in a way that made sense financially. Three days later he and his crew came out and with the efficiency of a military operation, were in and out in less than three hours. By the time they left you'd have been hard pressed to tell they had ever been there. I was more than satisfied, more accurately greatly impressed by all phases of their involvement from start to finish..

We had two conversations. Ryan is a good guy and want to do the best for his customers. Our first call was a false start. Angie's List said he was 11 miles away, actually quite a bit further. He is currently slammed. The second call reassured me that he wanted the best for his customers. We live too far away. I don't want to grade him down because of Angie's List mistake.

Response from Ryan's Tree Care LLC
I spoke with this homeowner and explained to him that the address listed on our profile was to our Post Office Box in Wayzata. Our shop is located in Hopkins/St. Louis Park. I mapquested directions from our shop to his home and it was located 45 minutes away. I suggested that he try to find a tree service closer to his area or to contact his city forester as he might have a recommendation. I explained that he would be able to save a substantial amount of money in man hours and gas charges alone, due to the driving distance. I was trying to be helpful, not insincere. I apologize for any miscommunication. Sincerely, Ryan Cox Owner

Ryan and his crew were great. Ryan came out himself to look at the work and provide an estimate. He suggested he leave the mulch from grinding the stumps to save us money. He even gave me a couple of names/numbers for people to replace trees. Ryan's crew worked quickly and did the work as he explained. Within a couple of weeks, the crew showed up to grind the stumps. (I'm guessing the stump grinding would have occurred sooner, but the ground was too wet.) Excellent service. I will definitely use his company again.

We sought bids for this service about a year ago from several tree care providers. Ryan's Tree Service seemed knowledgable about the type of work that needed to be completed, and was very personable. Having asked him to do the work approximately one year later, he honored his previous bid, based on the fact that a commercial tree service for some leased light industrial behind our property had already completed some of the work we had requested of Ryan's Tree Service, on our property line. His stump removal service removed the stumps as soon as it was practical to get on the property, due to the large amount of rain this year, and Ryan provided some referrals for other work we were hoping to complete on the property. Ryan's Tree Service did an excellent job of completing the work we requested.

I emailed the company to come out for an estimate, and when I received it the price seemed more than fair. I contacted the company to set up a date with a response of no later than 8 days. Two days later I contacted the company with a question regarding car access in/out of the alley and Ryan responded that it shouldn't be a problem, the trucks could move when needed, then told me that they would be working in my neighborhood the next two days and should be able to get the job done sooner than later. When I got home that night I was shocked to pull up and see no tree looming behind my garage! The company did a fantastic job cleaning up, only a missing tree and some small wood shavings marked that anything at all had happened. I couldn't have been more pleased with the work.

Ryan came over about 1 hour after I contacted him. He gave me an estimate on the spot for the fallen branch and other tree work that I was thinking about. He was very nice and professional. I gave him the ok to do the work the following week. He said I would be on the schedule to be completed by February and it was actually done the next week. The crew did a great job. A friend of mine uses him all the time and said she wouldn't use anyone else. I agree and won't call anyone else except Ryan's for my future work.

Everything was fabulous. Ryan came, gave an estimate on the spot, and a crew came later that day. I appreciated the professionalism, and how easy it all was. I called on a Tuesday, the job was done (and completely cleaned up!) on a Wednesday. I will be calling again when it's time for more tree trimming.

It is always sad to see just how quickly an 18 year old tree can be brought down. They did an excellent job and raked up any debis left in the yard. I thought the stump grinding would make a monumental mess because the tree was located in the front of the house. However, the men put some boards around the stump and put some plastic sheeting over that to eliminate a mess. The job was done thoroughly and the clean up was excellent. I will definitely be using Ryan again.
Description of Work: I had a river birch removed and the stump ground. Ryan also removed a few branches from two of my backyard maple trees. The branches are not very big and could be managed by hand saw. The river birch removal and tree trimming were done by one crew and two other men came out on another day to grind the stump.

We moved into our house in May and lost a limb off of a large oak in June. Called eight (yes, 8!) companies for estimates. Two companies suggested totally removing the trees (these are 100 + yr old trees with life still in them). Two of the eight companies wanted to charge $75+ just for estimates; and the others provided free estimates, Ryan's Tree Care being one of them. Ryan's Tree Care out shined all of them in matters of expertise, professionalism, service and price. Ryan and his crew are genuine not "sales-ie". From the initial call for an estimate to the final clean up this is a company that is working to build a lasting relationship with their customers versus just getting the one job. In my opinion Ryan's Tree Care should start a side business training companies from all areas on how to serve customers.

I chose Ryan from Angies List based on his Ratings, and his nearby location. He came out exactly as agreed, gave me a detailed written estimate, and took the time to verbally review how the work would be done. The anticipated date for the job was several weeks out, as they had a lot of fall tree removal business already booked. I was out on both the day they took the tree down, and on the day the stump was ground out-both times I came home to find the work site was totally cleaned up, and there was little or no evidence on the lawn of the work that had been done. I chose Ryan because of his formal Arborist training, use of a hydraulic bucket to bring down parts of the tree ( which overhung the garage ), his effort to protect the lawn, a very competitive price, and that he and a helper would be the ones doing the work. Plus, Ryan is a very personable and professional guy to work with. I would use him again in an instant, based on this experience.

He took out the trees well, but they didn't grind the stumps down very well. Our landscaping company told us that the stumps weren't ground down well enough. I tried calling Ryan and he didn't call me back. My landscaping guy had to go out and get a grinder that cost me $180 to have done. I finally got a hold of Ryan and told him he needed to pay that and he refused, but offered to give us a good deal on more tree removal. He quoted the price and I agreed with it, but he came out to look at it and wanted to raise the price. I told him "no way" and decided to have the work done by another company. A day later Ryan showed up and called me wondering which trees I wanted him to remove. I told him I didn't hire him to do the work, and he told me that he'd charge me for the service charge of coming out. I will not be paying that and would not recommend his business practices.

Response from Ryan's Tree Care LLC
We always appreciate customer feedback which helps us to better our company. In this case, we would like to take the opportunity to address this claim and clear up the situation. We were hired by the customer to remove some trees and grind some stumps. This work was completed ahead of schedule per request of the homeowner. Once the project was completed, I received a call from the homeowner telling me that he was extremely pleased with the job we had completed. The following Monday May 24th, I received a call from the homeowner. Prior to this call, I had not received a phone call from the homeowner regarding the following situation. The homeowner contacted me to let me know that the landscape company that he had hired; had come out on Saturday May 22nd. He notified me that the landscapers needed to dig deeper where the original stump had been ground out, to fulfill their landscape plan. When we ground out the stump, it was ground 14 inches below grade, which is standard in the tree service industry. The customer told me that the landscape company was going to charge him additional money because they had to dig deeper to fulfill their landscape plan. The homeowner then told me that I should be responsible for the additional time and money that it took the landscape company to meet the requirements of their landscape plan. While speaking with the homeowner he told me that I needed to "figure it out with the landscape company" because "he was not going to pay for the extra digging". I told him that if I had been made aware of the situation, I could have sent our stump grinder back out for a minimal charge for the additional work but I never received a call from him so I was unaware that the homeowner needed additional work preformed. It is unfortunate that the landscape company did not figure this into their original landscape plan. Taking the homeowners frustration into consideration but knowing that it was outside of our responsibility; I offered to put forward my best rates for any future projects to put the issue at rest. The homeowner agreed. Shortly after, the homeowner requested an estimate to remove 2 more trees and 2 more stumps. I provided an estimate for the work requested. The homeowner agreed to the estimate. After the work was scheduled, the homeowner called to add additional work before we began the project. I re-emailed him the revised estimate for the full scope of the project, which included the additional work he requested. Once the homeowner received the revised estimate, he contacted us via email to go forward with the project. I responded that we would be there within 3-4 working days to get the project completed, meeting the customer's deadlines. Upon arriving at the customer’s home, the tree work and stump grinding had already been completed. I called the homeowner to discuss why the work had been completed by another company without giving me the courtesy of notifying me first? The homeowner told me that he had been out of town and his wife must have inadvertently contracted another company to complete the work. The whole conversation just did not add up. I told the homeowner that at the very least, he would be charged a service charge. Communication and customer service has always been our number one priority and it is what has kept our company successful. We have received numerous A ratings on Angie's List and we have won the super service award 3 years in a row. We do not feel that this customer's report accurately depicts our company's high standards of communication and customer service. We continue to take pride in our business, because it's our name and reputation on the line. Sincerely, Ryan and Pam Cox Owners Ryan's Tree Care www.RyansTree.Care.com

Ryan was prompt on returning calls and estimate appointment. Made suggestions on how best to handle this sizeable job and how it would be accomplished. His crew arrived as schedule, asked throughout the job if work is satisfactory, answered questions and agreeable to suggestions. Thoroughly cleaned property at end of job. Very professional operation. Highly recommended. We received three bids for this job, Ryan's Tree Care was the middle bid.

The project went fantastic! Ryan and his crew actually showed up a week earlier than we expected to remove the shrubs. By sheer coincidence, we were also having our roof replaced the day that Ryan's crew showed up. Both Ryan and his crew as well as our Roofing guys all worked around one another very well with no issues whatsoever. Both after removing the shrubs and grinding the stumps, Ryan and his crew did a fantastic job of cleaning up after themselves. It was so clean when they were done that my wife didn't even notice that they had come to take the stumps out! I had to point it out to her. Overall, this was a great experience. We've used a different highly-rated Angie's List company for shrub trimming/removal in the past and they were substantially more expensive than Ryan's Tree Care. We'll definitely use Ryan again!
Description of Work: We had some very overgrown shrubs in our yard. We asked Ryan to come out and give us a bid to either trim them way back or just remove them. After discussing with Ryan, we decided removing them was the better course of action. Ryan and his crew removed 9 very large shrubs one week and then came back the next week and ground the stumps for all of them.

Last weekend I discovered a split in a huge weeping willow tree in my yard. On Monday I called 4 tree surgeons, all from angies list with great ratings. As of Thursday night, only two people showed up to give me quotes on dealing with this tree. I was about to hire Ryan's Tree Care when that part of the tree split from the rest of the tree and crashed onto the ground and my neighbor's deck and fence. I called Ryan last night, he called me back this morning, and was here within 20 minutes. His crew of 4 strong guys had the entire job cleaned up within 2 hours. They were very nice to deal with and the owner Ryan Cox was super all the way around. I will hire him for all tree services in the future. His price for the original job (before it became an emergency) was about half of another quote I received. They cleaned up all the branches and leaves perfectly. And hauled away everything.

Ryan came out promptly and gave the best estimate of 3 that we'd gotten. It took a couple of weeks before they were able to get the work done, but Ryan was good about communicating as things moved along. They removed the trees one day, then ground the stumps the next day. Everything was done just as we'd planned it, we were very happy with their work.

Ryan's Tree Service was absolutely fantastic. When Ryan Cox (owner) came out to estimate the job, he not only explained exactly what they would do, but why. Ryan is so knowledgeable about trees and their health he provided so much extra information and answered all of my "dumb questions". He was such a nice guy. We had 5 companies total bid the exact same work, and the bid from Ryan?s Tree Service came in the lowest, and when comparing all estimates, it was the most fair. It was ridiculous what some companies wanted to charge! The tree removal scheduling was a little odd since we were scheduling around the demo of our 1 car garage & construction of a new 2 car. We also had 2 weeks of pouring rain, then a weekend of sauna heat. (Gotta love spring in MN!) When it was scheduled, they showed up exactly when they said they would. Ryan's brother Eric actually came out with their crew and they took the tree down quickly. As soon as limbs or branches came down, they immediately picked it up. The entire crew was so efficient and respectful. Except for some light sawdust in our yard around the stump (which is totally to be expected when you remove a tree!!) they left our yard with no sign they had been there except the tree was now gone. Also ? they knocked money off our total bill and allowed us to keep some of the wood. Ryan also offered to leave the stump grindings for us to use along our fence for the dog & in the gardens. My husband and I were going to have to buy the exact same mulch & dirt at Home Depot, so his thoughtfulness saved us all that extra money & thought! I am so impressed with their knowledge, experience, professionalism & great customer service. I would absolutely recommend Ryan?s Tree Service to anyone!
