They evaluated my trees, fertilized them and trimmed many branches on several different trees. There was one branch that was still dangling and when I called and said I thought that should have been done. I was told they would charge me $250.00 to come out. I wasn't able to make it clear that I didn't think they had done that part correctly. It was quite expensive and I WAS satisfied until this issue.

Aborist explained what was wrong with the tree and what would happen if it was not removed. She was very detailed and answered all of my questions. I will be working with her to pick out a replacement tree this spring. The guys that took the tree down were very nice, fast, and cleaned everything up after it was down.

My neighbor recommended S&S tree and after getting quotes from competitors I found S&S tree to be in alignment with the other quotes. S&S was very informative and I was glad I was able to speak with someone on my first call, rather than having to leave a voice message. The tasks were completed on two separate occasions due to the best timing for the tree care. After the stump removal and trimming of both trees, the yard was left in good condition. All branches were picked up and ground leveled where the stump was removed. I was very pleased with the arborist Tony's service. I would definitely continue to go to S&S tree for any further tree care needs.

It went very well. I hired them at an hourly rate and they did exactly what I wanted while they were here.

I am 100% satisfied. I would not hestitate at all to highly recommend S&S to family, friends, neighbors, etc. Aaron was the one who lead the group and he was so nice and pleasant.

I had a double trunked large oak tree. One trunk fell due to a storm, the other was left standing but damaged with a large crack going up the trunk. Their arborist was very knowledgeable and provided a quote. Their crew showed up early morning. They were friendly and professional and got to work. They had the equipment to do the job right and it all went smoothly, the yard was cleaned up like the tree never existed. I will recommend them to anybody because of their knowledge, price and professionalism

Called and set up a time for an estimate. Paul showed up on time and we discussed what he could do for $1000 (we used a $200 off coupon). This was not an emergency removal, but a preventive removal as the trees were leaning more and more after every storm. We have add other trees removed in previous years and the price about what we expected. Paul mentioned that they were doing storm removal first and thought it would be 4 -5 weeks before they could do our job. About a month later S & S called and gave us a specific day and said we were first on the list for that day. The crew showed up on time with several large trucks but due to the location of the trees, everything was done by hand. I discussed with the foreman the cost of removing the brush pile as well as removing the trees. We agreed upon the extract charge. The trees were hanging over our fence and they were very careful in cutting down the trees so no branches fell on the fence. The guys raked up all of the small branches and removed them. It took under 2 hours.

Our tree was long overdue for a trim. Branches were brushing against the house. Estimate was done on time. Someone from the office called and scheduled the appointment time. Crew arrived exactly at the time quoted, did the trimming as we wanted and cleaned up branches and fallen leaves. They were polite and professional and our neighbor was so impressed with their work and efficiency she requested their business card. We will contact them again when tree needs trimming.

Called for a quote on tree removal and pruning. S&S seems like a very professional company. The arborist was prompt in responding to my request and very knowledgeable and thorough when inspecting the property and writing the quote. Unfortunately they quote was significantly higher than several other companies, so I did not use them this time, but was impressed by the professionalism and will consider their services in the future.

Called for a quote. President of S&S personally came over to provide a quote. It was a fairly extensive tree trimming job (it turned out) and he provided me an official quote within a day or less. I did not get a competing bid as the bid came in around where I thought it would. They called the night before the job to confirm and showed up early in the AM with a crew the size of a football team it seemed. They worked for a couple of hours and did a phenomenal job I think. I had no idea how much debris would be created with this job and they cleaned up very nicely. Top notch job.

In my opinion, they are the top tree company in my area. They are professional and bonded. They bring a great crew that is efficient and cleans up well after themselves. I have not had any problems with them.

Excellent. Work was completed on time and on budget. Designer (Ms. Lindsey Mike) met with us 3 times to go over needs and wants. Of the 5 bids we solicited, her design was the only one that captured key requirements we had stated and the bid was priced in the range we had requested. Additionally, she had the reachback to the hardscape designer and the arborist to perform several tasks to complete the design and provide advice on extremely rare trees and shrubs existing on the property. We strongly recommend that if any customer is looking to have S&S bid, they make a by-name request for Ms. Lindsey Mike. We have a couple other projects planned in the out-years, and we will insist on her service. Install. Ms. Mike had her site lead, Jose, perform the install of her design. Jose's crew was professional, spoke perfect english, and took extra steps to make sure we could use the property each day (preserved grass, walkways during grader / forklift use; ensured our new concrete garage apron had no equipment parked on it) and following the project, made sure the cleanup restored the affected areas to original condition. Hope this positive recommendation and by name callouts helps the next Angie's List customer!

It started out a little rough with communication with the office/scheduling of the project but overall we are very satisfied. They crew that came out did a fantastic job. They worked well as a team to efficiently keep the debris clear from the drop sites. They were very respectful of our property and overall very nice. As we watched their process, we were impressed by the teamwork in keeping the process moving. Two guys really stood out on the crew. The guy in the tree and Aaron on the ground. They are top notch - hard workers. Aaron was always moving and thinking ahead, thoughtful and pleasant. The guy in the tree had a tall order to fill when the electric company did not show up to drop the power line to the house. He and the team were carefully able to problem solve and avoid causing any harm to themselves or the power line. We were impressed and definitely would recommend S & S Tree and use them again.

The service and cleanup was very good. I paid by credit card. Several days later, I noticed that the credit card charge was not posted and I received a statement for the service. I called S & S several times, but the line was busy. (I did not know this, but S & S was having issues with their phone connection). I then sent them a check for the service. The next day, I noticed that the credit card charge was posted. I again called by phone and got a busy signal. I then sent an email reciting the details of what happened. Within a short time, I received a telephone call and was advised of what happened. I thought the easiest way to resolve this would be for S & S to return my check. The chek was sent back to me. I was impressed with the prompt response and their integrity.

Like many people in the Twin Cities,we had tree problems from the recent storms. A large Linden fell on our house, causing significant damage. I called S&S Tree on the Saturday morning following the storm and got through to someone right away. I explained my situation and that I understood that they were probably verybusy that day. The woman who answered the phone assured me that a tree on a house was a top priority and that they would get an arborist to the house as quickly as possible. That was nearly a week ago. No arborist. No follow-up phone call. No nothing. As I said, I understand that tree companies like S&S must be facing an onslaught of work these days. But for nearly a week to go by without any response -- even just a follow-up call to let me know where I was in the queue -- is inexcusable. We've used S&S in the past, and have been pleased with their results. They tend to be expensive but good. But when you are in a desperate situation, it's nice to be able to count one someone. Regrettably, we don't seem to be able to count on S&S Tree.

Paul arrived promptly at the time specified and wrote up an estimate. I wanted a breakdown by tree to pick and choose if the price got to high. I called him the next day and emailed the agreement. They date was scheduled for about 10 days from the estimate. Paul took care of getting the underground utilities marked. He also set up a date with excel energy, as they had to disconnect the power lines. All was taken care of. The 4 workers arrived and were ready to go as scheduled. They were very professional. They knew what they were doing. They said it would take about 6 hours and they were done in 6 hours. Everything was removed and the stumps ground and the chips removed. I was more than satisfied and would recommend S & S to anyone.

On 5/6/13 Tony came out and gave me a hand-written estimate. I showed it to my husband and then sent Tony an email to okay the proposal. When the crew came to do the work, however, some of the work included in my hand written estimate did not make it to their typed work order. For instance, a white pine was to have two low branches and two broken branches removed. That didn't make it on to the work order. They said they would do it anyway, in the name of customer service. Well, okay, but that should have been on the work order. Also, there was a line about how we may want to remove a few dead limbs from the same pine tree. At the time of the estimate, I was told there would not be an additional charge if we decided to remove any of the dead limbs. At the time of service, though, that was no longer true. They would charge me extra for those limbs on the tree that they didn't enter on their work order in the first place. I realize I made a mistake in not getting him to put that part in writing. Next, it looked like they were getting ready to leave. I asked about grinding the stumps for the trees removed in the back. Apparently that didn't make it on to the typed work order either, but they did it anyway. Who is typing these work orders? All in all, the work they did was fine. They are very polite and friendly and they clean up after themselves well. We used them a couple of years ago and were very impressed. I would use them again, but this was a disappointing experience.

Last fall, my husband had called to get an estimate to remove a tree that was growing very close to our house and which the previous owners had built the deck around. We were concerned that some of the larger branches were at risk of falling on the roof. An arborist from S&S came out promptly and gave us an estimate on this tree and some other branches in a different tree. The estimate seemed like a competitive rate, but we did not have the funds at the time to go forward with the project. This spring we contacted S&S and we were now ready to move forward with having this tree cut down. We didn't hear anything for a week and my husband called again. After another week went by without a call, my husband called again. A few days later, the arborist who came out and provided the original estimate finally returned our call and said he didn't need to come out again and asked that we sign the previous estimate and mail it back. He said that they were scheduling appointments about a week out and we would be contacted to arrange a time. My husband told him that Mondays work the best. About three weeks later, we had not heard anything and my husband told me that if they don't call within the next couple of days we were going to contact a different tree service. This was on a Monday. On Wednesday, I receive a call at work from the arborist telling me that the crew will be at our house in about 20 minutes. I told him that we had never been contacted to confirm an appointment and that I would have to take time off from work to meet them. I also called their office and spoke with a lady who answered the phone and explained to her that I had to take time off from work to meet the crew and that we were never contacted to confirm this appointment. She apologized and stated she would tell her manager about this. I could have told them that it would not work and we would have to schedule for a different day, but my husband and I wanted to get this tree taken down. I got home and they were waiting in the driveway with two crew members. I thought they would have a few more people there to take down this rather large tree that is right next to our house, but I'm not an expert at tree removal. The two crew members were very polite and friendly and started their work. About 15 minutes into the job, I heard a very large bang and went out to see what was going on. One of them stated that they needed more people to finish the job and were calling for additional crew members to help them. I looked at the house, as it sounded as if they had hit the house with a branch, and sure enough there was a scuff mark on our cedar siding. Not one of the crew members mentioned that a branch had struck the house. Two more crew members arrived about 20 minutes later in a rather large truck with a boom arm and bucket (cherry-picker type truck). They ended up gouging out tracks in our gravel driveway as the ground was soft from all the rain, but I didn't noticed this until after they had all left. The four crew members finished taking down the tree and did a nice job cleaning up afterwards. The foreman of the crew asked if everything had been cleaned up well enough considering this was a non-removal job (the tree that was cut down was left in the yard at our request) and I said it looked good. Not once did anyone mention that a branch had struck the house. I didn't say anything as the siding was merely scuffed, not broken, cracked or damaged to the point of needing to be replaced. A little stain will fix it. BUT, it would have been nice if it had been mentioned as it was pretty obvious. After all of these issues, we were never offered an apology for the lack of scheduing (other than the lady I spoke with), damage to the house and damage to the driveway. AND we were charged the full amount quoted previously. Oh well. Live and learn I guess. My husband and I have hired this company before to remove a really large cottonwood tree at a previous residence and were very happy with the service. Our experience this time around was 180 degrees different from the first time. We were very disappointed with the whole process; from the lack of response to us wanting to hire them, to not scheduling an appointment and just showing up, to striking the house with a large branch and not notifying us, to damaging our driveway. We will not be hiring this company in the future and I wish we would have decided earlier to choose a different company in the first place. **Update to this review. I received a call from S&S apologizing for all the problems that we experienced (as indicated above in my initial review). They stated that they would come out and fix the siding where the branch hit - not needed as it scuffed our wood siding and just a brush stroke of stain fixed it - and they stated they felt really bad that we had such bad service and that there were so many problems. We had hired S&S previously and had fantastic service the first time and then horrible service the second time. It could have just been a case of one bad thing led to another and they all just happened to us at the same time. I really appreciated the phone call asking to repair the damage that was done (she said they would have come out to even just restain the scuffed siding). I told her that it wasn't the damage I was upset about, it was the fact that no one mentioned what had happened, even though it was pretty obvious as I was home at the time it happened. I'm sorry for all involved that so many things went wrong. I have updated my rating somewhat, but I am still disappointed that the arborist claimed to his management that he had tried to contact us but had a bad contact number. I find it funny that he had a bad phone number when my husband called the number on his business card several times and left him several messages to call us back. Better attention to detail might be needed.

Called for them to come out for an estimate and was told it was $85 just for them to come look at 1 tree. It says "Free Estimates" here on Angie's list which I told her, but she insisted it would still be $85. False advertising and not very professional.

The S&S team showed up exactly when they said they would. The on-site foreman (Todd) took the time to review the project to ensure there were no questions or misunderstandings. After the review the team immediately went to work and was done, including clean-up (which they did very well), in under 70 minutes. All in all, extremely satisfied.

Overall they did a good job and I am happy with the experience. I rated the experience a little lower for one main reason. We got a very large snow storm the night before my tree service. I was pretty concerned about the quality of the service that could be performed in 15 inches of snow. I really wanted to wait until the snow cleared but because most other people cancelled, I felt bad and went ahead. The problem was they could not clean up the yard or roof and left a giant mess. I knew this would happen and I'm okay with it but the folks at S&S did not seem to care much about my concerns. That is why I rated the experience a B. Also, they had to come back to finish grinding the roots. This was a bit of a headache because I had to clean up twice. Do not have your trees pruned in heavy snow. Guess that's my bottom line for this story.

They trimmed too much off of one tree that used to provide privacy from the neighbor. But they were happy tree people my kids said, singing in the trees! If I were home I could've stopped them from trimming so much on the one side.

I received an estimate to trim two large oak trees in our yard. The scheduling of the appointment was easy, the arborist came on schedule (actually a little early, but he called to confirm that it was OK), and was very helpful and professional. He called back to see if I had any follow-up questions. I was impressed the the company but choose another one because of price.

They are top class in everything they do. They responded quickly and efficiently to each phone call/email we sent, the forester we worked with was very knowledgeable, they arrived on time and were punctual with both the estimate and the actual trimming appointment, and they left my yard much cleaner than it was before they arrived. The tree's look great as well. They were even the lowest bidder, something I was happily surprised by as it seems like there are tons of fly by night tree trimmers always willing to come in with below market estimates. The amount we ended up paying was the same as the estimate as well. I would highly recommend them.
