Great. This was a big job. Our yard is small with only one gate in the fence for access. The tree was close to our house and our neighbors. Crew was very careful and did an excellent job of dismantling the tree . It took 2 sessions. There were 2 crews of 3-4 people each. All were pleasant , hard working and did great cleanup afterwards.

The price for the patio itself was much higher than the referring contractor gave me, despite the add ons. (Upgrading the brick choice and new steps) The workers were exceptionally nice and they listened to me when I asked them about certain things. (The working crew, especially Jeremy, gets an A from me) However, John Oehlenschlager was not easy to work with. We ran into some bumps in the road. He tried charging me extra for part of the job that I felt was included in the bid. (How to merge the old flower garden brick of the with the new garden bricks) His reasoning for this was that they offered to throw the extra dirt and sodding around my tree, which the district manager agreed had nothing to do with it. Some of the patio bricks were discolored from brine solution and dirt. They did replace them, but some of the new bricks also have this issue. Mike, the district manager, guaranteed he would replace them next spring should this issue not resolve by then. They ended up coming out twice to replace some of them, which John made me feel bad about. The top step started to move shortly after they finished, so they had to come glue it to the bottom step. (Hope it holds!) John was rude at times and made a statement that his company did not make any money off me...really?! Not exactly very professional. Corey, one of the crew supervisors, was rude to me as well. When they came back to fix some bricks around the new flower garden, I was out there trying to tell them what I wanted fixed. And, he made a comment something to the affect like, "Will you just let us do our job?!" Had this been better thought out and executed, I would not have felt the need to be out there, making sure things were fixed properly the second time. Overall, this company does guarantee their work, that is the good news. Mike, the district manager, (yes, I had to contact him) was awesome! However, John made the experience less pleasant. He really needs some classes in being professional. I did speak with his district manager about this. Photos I have attached include (in this order): 1) sample patio brick at store. As you can see, the bricks I got were different colors, which I could live with, had there not been "bad" colored ones in there. 2) Bad brick area 3) Good brick area 4) entire patio job 5) problem area, where we had to mere two brick types. This needed redesigning, and it was my designer (Sally Gephart, who is awesome at designing!) who came up with the solution 6) new solution to brick around garden areas 7) new steps (top one was moving around on the other steps!)

It was just fine. They did a good job. I took a couple of bids and they were the lowest. They were right on time. She came out when she said for giving us a bid.

They did a good job. They were polite, they were timely, they got the job done, and they were nice. There was nothing wrong with what they did. The price was fair. The quality was good too.

It was okay. It was good. It all seemed pricey to me. It is what it is. That's what everybody charges. The quality was okay. The only problem was they were late coming out. They didn't show up at first. The quality was fine. They responded right away. The good part was they were very neat. You couldn't tell they have been here when they left. The bad part was I had a scheduled date but they never showed up. I called them in the evening. I had to wait for days for them to show up. We got a schedule. The guy came out, did the estimate, and set up the time. They said they would be out before the afternoon. It was almost 7 o'clock at night and there was no one that showed up. They didn't call or anything. When I called them back, they said they can't work more than 12 hours a day and they just wouldn't be out that day. Instead of scheduling me right away the next day, I had to wait 2 or 3 more days for them to come out. The overall work was okay.

It was fine. They did a good job. I liked their efficiency. The time it took to do it was quick. They cleaned up very well when they were done. I remember paying a little bit higher price but the service was good. They could lower the prices a little bit.

We stopped using them because they forgot to come one time. They didn't come when they said they were going to come. They were good. The work was fine. It was good. They should come three times like they said they would.

It was great. I've used them for several years and I've been consistently pleased with their service.

It was fine. Everything seems to be okay. They are prompt, courteous and reliable.

It was a wonderful experience. Celine Schroeder (the designer) and John Oehlenschalager (the Landscape Manager) worked with us to create a beautiful design and then they and their crews implemented the plan beautifully. There were a couple issues along the way, as can occur with any project (e.g., rain delays, wrong tree brought on site for planting, grass damage due to heavy equipment required) but in each situation Celine and John worked to solve the residual problem. For example, in the case of the grass, they re-sodded heavily damaged areas of the yard and then aerated and seeded the rest of the front yard to close off the project. As I said, with any project things can go wrong, but they showed up as they promised to make things right. We love the results and really enjoyed working with the two of them and all their crews!

I liked the professional advice from the salesperson. The results were not as satisfactory as I would have liked. My interaction with them was very good. There was no problem. We had some trees that had disease. He recommended to spray them. He said he's not sure if it's going to work. It was costly and it didn't work. I don't think it was good that he recommended it. He did disclose to me that it may not work. I think he should have been a little more forceful on that.

Rob has been great to work with. Provided great ideas for what trees to plant on our property, we've worked with them before and they are our go-to tree company!

I get them for a lot of tree services, trimming, fertilization and so forth. They have a terrible lawn service, I'd give them an F for lawn service, but their tree service is an A. They poisoned some bushes that I have, which are coming back, but I had them out and they're reputable, they were going to compensate me for it and so forth, but I just have been unhappy with their service. I've had them two times and both times I was very unhappy with the quality. The price was right. The chemicals and poison were way to harsh, my lawn and also my bushes were damaged. I got a lot of weeds now. They did come and addressed my needs, they're reputable in that way.

Getting a quote - no issues. They have a minimum price they come out for which I paid. Far more than what it was worth, but I understand their reasoning for a minimum quote policy. Even though they were a bit more money, I chose them after comparing them with a few others. I did not get a sales pitch from them like I did with the others, two of which were pushing for regular maintenance packages. Scheduling - Because of a previous tree trimming disaster, I insisted on being home when they were here. No problem with that. The only problem was getting on their schedule. It seemed as though they were dragging their feet when it came to that. I had to contact them and felt I needed to push to get on their schedule. Work completed - The men that came out to do the work were very accommodating and polite. I was happy with the work done and the manner in which they had cleaned up the small project. Suggestion - Only one I have is if you ever hire to have tree trimming done, be home if at all possible.

We first used S&S Tree service when we moved into our home 7 years ago. Their arborist (and I think the owner) was very informative, honest with what needed to be done and what could wait, and his care for our trees was exemplary. We have a very large elm tree that he kept healthy when our neighbor lost theirs to dutch elm disease. Fast forward to 2013 and we hired S&S (now under new management) again, to remove overgrown bushes and trees from our front yard, trim both the large elm and a large maple, and to remove a smaller tree that was leaning towards our neighbor. We also contracted with them to remove a large stump from a tree we lost in a storm. We made it very clear that we wanted to be present when all of the work was done. They came several weeks later and their crew cut the brush and hedges to the ground and chipped up the branches. I needed to point out that the roots needed to be removed so we could re-do the sod in that area and they removed a few of the small stumps with a grinder. The trees we wanted trimmed and stumps we wanted to remove were in out back yard. They removed the branches from our maple, but explained they couldn't get the stump grinder through our walkway on the side of the garage so none of the stumps were removed. They also stated that the elm couldn't be trimmed until the fall. When billed, they included the cost of the elm trimming. We stated we would not pay for the work until it was done, so that was removed from the bill, but it took a call to the owner to have them reduce the cost since the stumps were not removed. All in all, we were NOT happy with how they trimmed the tree and with the fact they did not remove the large stumps they originally said they could. In late September, I read an e-mail from S&S dated the day before, saying they would be out to trim our elm tree the next day! They were closed by the time I read the e-mail, so I called to cancel the job the next morning: we were unhappy with their service and we had clearly stated we wanted to be around whenever work was done. When they answered the phone and I told them I did NOT want them to do the service , I was told "it has already been done"!! No phone call, no e-mail, no contact whatsoever to schedule a time convenient for us! We sent numerous e-mails to the owner that we had not wanted the service done, that we had said we wanted to be home when the work was done, and that we were not going to pay for work we did not schedule. Their response was to say they would take us to court if we did not pay and wouldn't even acknowledge they should have contacted us before doing the work. We hesitantly paid the bill because we didn't want to hurt our good credit score, but will never,never use their services again!

We called S&S Tree and Robb came out on April 28 to give us an estimate and timeframe to remove a large sugar maple tree from our yard, as well as grind the stump. They came out when promised on May 7, and removed the tree. Then it started to rain, and rain. Another crew came out the next day but it was too wet to get the stump grinder in our yard. Took about a week for them to get out to do the stump. There was quite a large mound of dirt/mulched up stump pieces left which my husband and I took care of for the most part. They had missed a few very large roots and we were told they would come back for them. On May 20 I called Robb about coming back out for the roots; called him back on May 21 and he said he'd get it scheduled next week. Hadn't heard anything so I I called Robb back on May 28, and was told it would be the following week. Casey called on June 3 to let us know they'd be out on June 4. They came back on June 4 with an axe to get the very large roots that were missed. I guess I thought they'd bring a smaller grinder as the roots were quite large. Communication could've been better with returning my phone calls instead of me having to do all the calling back. All said and done they did a decent job.

Due to the size and location of the dying Poplar tree, a large crane was required for removal. At the time I thought it would be a bucket type. Nope, it was a HUGE crane that could have been used to construct the new football stadium downtown! Anyway after the crane crew got that set up, the crew went to work bringing the tree down. It took about 2-3 hours, but they knew what they were doing and since the tree was located on the property line close to the neighbors house, great care was taken to ensure that no damage would occur to their house. I also had two willow trees, a river birch and maple tree that needed some serious deadwood and branch pruning, which they did a real good job on. The crew used ropes to scale the trees and I could tell that this job wasn't their first rodeo. They also hauled a chipper on site to quickly dispose of the branches. The did an excellent cleanup job as well. All in all, a very professional job from start to finish. They may not be the cheapest tree service, but I felt I got what I paid for.

Mike came out and looked at our Honey Locus. It was determined that it had no hope of recovering and we decided to have it removed. Our only problem was that it took over a week to schedule a date to have it removed and the crew was late the day the tree was removed. I was busy getting ready for my sons birthday party and it would have been nice if I would of been given a call letting me know they were going to be late. We were scheduled for a time between 10-11am. They showed up after 12 noon. When they got here the tree came down quickly and they cleaned up all the mess. They were professional. My neighbor was so impressed that he hired them to trim a tree in his back yard. I would hire them again, but insist that they call if they were going to be late.

I was referred to S&S Tree and Horticultural Specialists, Inc. by Gerten's Garden Center when I inquired about needing to have a large, dead shrub removed and replaced. My first contact with the company (Casey) was positive and we scheduled an arborist, Lance Carlson, to come out to the house on 6/3/2015 to take a look and give us some options. My experience with the company and with Lance was positive enough that we expanded the scope to include tree trimming/pruning as well. Lance was delightful and provided his proposal on-time as promised. We made our decisions and signed off on the proposal on 6/7/2015, including the selection of the new shrub. After signing off on the proposal 6/7/2015, we started to run into some communication issues. I realize this is the busiest time of year for these organizations, so I tried to be patient to get this work scheduled. On 6/16/2015 I inquired with Lance on when the work would be completed. He responded the tree trimming/pruning would occur on 6/25/2015 but wasn't sure about the dead shrub replacement. I followed up again on 6/23/2015 to inquire about the dead shrub replacement. Lance (who was always responsive) said that department was backed up and he would let me know when he had a service date. The shrub was finally replaced on 6/29/2015 without any communication from S&S about timing or installation date. While I was glad to have the work complete, I would have preferred communication from the company on when the work was to be done rather than simply having the person show up at our house. I also communicated to Lance that the tree trimming/pruning crew did not complete all the work that was part of the proposal. Lance came out himself on 6/30/2015 and finished the work. Lance was great and always responsive to my inquiries. Perhaps the company just needs better internal coordination of projects.

I have used S & S for many years now, and while they may be a bit on the pricey side, they always do great work and this time was no exception. The work was preformed nicely, despite poor weather that day. I actually didn't expect them to show up with the rain starting, but they were there right on time. All the work was done neatly and they did a great job cleaning up afterwards, including putting a split-rail fence back up that I had taken down to give them access to the Willow tree. I understand that the Sylvester family has sold off the business, so Tony Sylvester, who was my main contact there is no longer working there. I hope the new owners will keep up the strong customer service that marked S & S under the Sylvester's.

They were fine. I didn't have any comparison estimates. I've had them before and I've been satisfied with their price.

From the first call to the end, the response was excellent. They removed a fir tree close to the house and grinded down the stump. The tree was located directly over a gas and electrical line, so extreme caution was necessary. They did a great job. They also had to remove some old shrubs in the back next to the deck. Again they took caution to keep from damaging the deck. They then grinded down the stubs. The most impressive part was the clean up. When they were done, there was not a bit of debris left behind. I would definitely recommend them .

I've been satisfied with their service. I would use them again but that depends on the price. There are other providers around that I've used for the same kind of service.

Fantastic, fast service. The estimate was fast and spot on the same as other companies who took over an hour to look at the trees and create an estimate. They were able to fit up into their schedule within a few days. They thought it would take two days, but they had a full crew, so they were able to finish in just one day. You'd never know that they were here because there's not a branch in the yard or the sidewalk. Awesome clean-up. Excellent, cheerful lumberjacks! We'll hire them again this fall for trimming our granddaddy of an oak tree.
