Service was outstanding. Appeared at the stated times for the estimate and actual service. Went through an initial walk through at the the start of the project and again at the end to make sure I was satisfied. Did not use any heavy equipment on the property as we were concerned about potential lawn damage. Additionally we have a fenced in play area right next to the trees being removed which required careful precision on the part of the crew to make sure nothing was damaged. They started early morning and were completed by mid afternoon. The price was several hundred dollars more than other quotes (not exactly an apples to apples comparison), but I am comfortable that I received an appropriate level of value for my payment.

Estimate by Steve was prompt and professional. The problem was that during the estimate I stated that I wanted the logs cut into 8-12 inch pieces and stacked next to the house, so that I could later split them and use them in our fireplace. I arrived home from work the day the job was done only to find that the logs were left in 18-36 inch pieces and just left on the ground where they fell. So now I not only had to clean up and stack the logs by my house (which would have taken the crew of 6 guys about 3 minutes), I am stuck with logs I can't use in my fireplace because they're too long. Additionally, the front yard was littered with small to medium size branches that were not cleaned up; another job that would have taken the crew of 6 guys about 5 minutes. So I will have to clean that up myself. I wrote a letter to S & S Tree Specialists describing the above problems. I received no reply or action. Would not recommend this company. Update 12/31/2012 Received a call from Steve following this review. It turns out that someone in the front office dropped the ball as far as the letter I sent goes. Don't know if it was lost, thrown out or just ignored. At any rate, Steve agreed to have a crew come back to cut the logs to the size I had specified and re-stack them.

The entire process was very satisfying. Tony was always accommodating, understanding, and fair. They did what they said they would do when they said they would do it and at a very fair price. We will definitely use them again and recommend them to our friends and neighbors.

I had two large sugar maples trans-planted to my yard several years ago by a different vendor and they were not doing well. S and S provided a good analysis of what the problem was, corrected a misconception I had about what was wrong, and suggested a plan of action. They were not overly optimistic about the long term success of the project, but gave a professional and (I think) realistic assesment of the likelihood that the trees will survive and a plan to improve their chances. They seemed very well qualified and knowledegable about horticulture and trees and did a lot of hard work on the roots of the trees for a very reasonable price.

We called for service estimate. A certified Arborist came out and examined our trees. He gave an estimate for the work we needed done. We called soon after to schedule the work. While we were at work they came out and took down the trees we did not want. They treated and tagged the Ash trees as agreed. They also did an excellent job of cleaning up after themselves before they left.

We had three occasions to use S&S over the summer. 1) Determined problem causing yellowing and wilting of tree leaves. Applied deep root fertilizer. Problem solved. 2) Replaced small retaining wall. Couldn?t use machinery without destroying yard. Crew came first thing in the morning, removed the old wall and had the new wall in place by late afternoon. No machinery used, all manual labor. 3) Trimmed two large trees. Crew arrived in the afternoon and had everything done with into two hours. All three crews did fantastic jobs. Arrived on time. Did what was expected. All hard workers. Cleaned up site. Will call back whenever needed.

I had them evaluate a tree in my front yard. they explained that the crown damage was likely drought related and that the tree should recover next year. We are going to leave the tree until age overcomes it. I will be asking them to take the tree down when the time is right.

It went very well. On the initial visit, Steve spoke very knowledgeably about the trees on my property and gave advice on needed care including removal, trimming, pesticide and fertilization applications. Later Tony and his crew came to trim many trees and remove one. They were hardworking and they cleaned up every last stick.

People in office seemed disinterested and very laissez-faire. Once I signed estimate and faxed it back, no one contacted me. Left email, no response. Called, got someone who really didn't seem to care. Work got scheduled during time I was going to be out of state on vacation, which I explained, and this seemed fine with her. Then, while I was gone on vacation, message left on home phone explaining that all work was cod and i would have to pay the day the work was performed! However, when I returned the tree and stump had been removed and carted away. Work was satisfactory, but they didn't seem to care if they did the work or not. Maybe they have too much work coming in to care about one more job.

EXCELLENT SERVICE PROVIDER! Competitors should take a page from their book! I called S&S to look at our Elm tree which I was concerned may have Dutch Elm disease (because of some early leaf dropping, damaged leaves and dark leaves). I left a message and promptly got a return call asking me whether I'd like somebody to stop by and whether I wished to be home during the visit or simply get a call after the visit. I chose the latter. Mark Stennis, an S&S plant pathologist, came to our house and looked at the tree when I was not home. He promptly called me with a report of his conclusions. He said that ours is a Siberian Elm which doesn't commonly suffer from Dutch Elm and that, other than some Japanese beetle chomping and a likely need for more common watering, there is nothing wrong with it. Thanks to an Angie's list offer, there was no charge for the visit. Mark indicated there was no need for any work to be done at this time. He simply said he hopes we will contact S&S if and when we do need service. (He even told me that our Maple tree - also in the back yard - was looking good and healthy). WHAT A GIGANTIC RELIEF!!! For the record, I also contacted another tree service who stopped by my house and left a rather lengthy proposal of work in our mailbox that would have cost anywhere from many hundreds to a few thousand dollars including paying more than $500 for an analysis - the same analysis that a clearly smarter Mark Stennis performed on the spot!! Included in the estimate from the evil competitor was a proposal to completely remove our beautiful old tree (and spend more than $2000 doing so)!!!!! I feel like the evil competitor was willing to take advantage of my naivete to make some easy money. S&S has proven their integrity and skill and I will absolutely contact them when I have a need. Not only will I contact them in the future, I will go out of my way to say good things about them to anybody who will listen and will highly recommend them to friends and family. THANK YOU S&S for being true professionals with integrity.

I was very pleased overall with the quality of the work and the services provided. A severe thunderstorm blew down six trees in my yard as well as a large number of branches from other trees. I called early the next morning and a representative was able to give me an estimate by the afternoon of the next day. I considered the response quite good as I know all tree removal services were busy as a result of the storm. The quote for services was reasonable and a crew was on-site two days later. I was very impressed with the quality of the work. The crew was polite, professional and took care to avoid damaging other trees and shrubs in the area. They were also very good about cleaning up after themselves. I appreciated the fact that I received a call from S&S the day before the work was done to alert me of estimated arrival and the crew was right on time. The stump removals took place about three weeks later but I had no complaints about the short delay. No one likes the expense of cleaning up after a storm but I would certainly call them again if I need additional work done.

Overall I was very happy with my experience. I'm having problems with my Japanese Tree Lilac so I gave them a call. S&S called me back right away, but each arborist schedules their own appointments and it did take over a week to get back to me. It's peak season, so I'm not surprised. I wasn't able to be there while they analyzed my tree, but they gave me a fairly detailed description of what they think the issues are and gave me a follow up number to discuss any questions further. They also sent me an email with additional links to information. Surprisingly, they didn't try to sell me any services or treatments, and basically recommended that I wait this out and continue giving it normal care. I had an Angie's List voucher for a free consultation (otherwise it's $85), so the entire process was free. I

The experience was good. Their responsiveness was very acceptable. The staff was very good.

Disappointed in the quality of work done to shape shrubs. A crew member did agree that the job was not well done the first time and someone did return a week later to do some more work. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be present, so I could not question the work and clarify what they considered shaping. My expectations were different than what was done. I have received an apology for the work not being done to my satisfaction and an offer to fertilize the shrubs free of charge. I believe S & S does care about the quality of their work and customer satisfaction.

Removed an old tree, ground down the stump, pruned a river birch, fertilized 4 mature trees. The crew was very courteous, skilled and efficient. We would recommend S & S Tree specialists and use them again ourselves.

We have two very old, very large white pines in our yard that have taken several beatings from the weather and lost a lot of branches. We asked to have them evaluated to see if they would survive or have to be removed and then to trim the broken branches. We were told that they would survive and the branches were trimmed earlier than we originally scheduled. An opening allowed them to come two weeks early and the performed the job on time, on budget and very professionally. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

They were good. Easy to set up appointment. A small came out and did a one day job. They were courteous and professional and cleaned up.

The services are always exceptional. A neighbor and I both had our trees trimmed on the same day and they looked amazing afterward! I have had a tree treated annually for insects and the service provider was very knowledgeable and took the time to provide a detailed explanation. I am very pleased with this company and continue to use their services whenever I have tree or landscaping projects.

I had a large ash tree in the backyard, overhanging the house; it has been in decline for several years and was showing no buds this year. Figuring it would have to come down eventually due to emerald ash borer within a mile or so, I asked S&S to come out and look at the tree. The arborist, Tony came right out, looked at the tree, outlined options (treat it for possible emerald ash borer, wait until it's dead and really has to come down, or take it down now) and told me how much it would be to take it down and grind the stump. I decided to have the tree removed. S&S contacted Xcel to schedule a day to drop the powerline, then let me know. They came a week after the initial consultation; 3 guys, 2 very large trucks, one with a cherry-picker bucket, one a debris truck towning a chipper, they also brought a stump grinder; near the end another fellow showed up with a 'pincer/claw' to pick up the very large trunk pieces and load them in the debris truck. They came right on time, and were done a little over 3 hours later. They cleaned the site. No damage to the house or fence. I have a lot of border plantings/perennials near the tree. The only damage to any vegetation was a couple of tulips got squashed because the stump grinder had to be wheeled over them. Tony had warned me ahead of time this would be necessary. They came, they worked quickly and professionally, they cleaned up, the left. The price was exactly as quoted. It hurt to part with so much cash - but they earned every penny.

I make sure to be home for work/projects that are scheduled to be completed. We were scheduled for the afternoon to have several broken tree top branches that were hanging, dead tree cut down & fallen tree to be removed. I came home mid morning to find they had already been here and just about completed the project. I thought that perhaps they tried to call to let me know they had a schedule change, but i didn't receive any messages letting me know. When i walked to the back yard a large limb/branch was stuck so instead of getting up there to get it loose, they just yanked & pulled, thus damaging smaller tree against/around it. They were not careful in considering the surrounding smaller trees in our woods. They were about to go, and i noticed they hadn't cut the tree stumps down to ground level as indicated in the contract, and had left some debris lying there. I had them come back before they left to cut those stumps down and remove debris/branches from the work they did. I expect work to be completed as indicated, and clean up to be done. That's why i like to be home when projects are done..if I hadn't have shown up, they would have had to return to complete the work to satisfactory level. So, showing up at unscheduled time, not being careful with surrounding trees/vegetation, not thorough w/clean up or cutting down stumps.

I am satisfied with the service they provide me.
