My experience was great and I would definitely recommend Second Chance Rescue.
We were then given the number of the foster home where our dog was living. The foster mom was amazing. She answered all our questions and let us come and see the dog that day. When we were able to meet the dog and take the dog for a walk at the foster home. We feel in love! :-) The adoption process was very easy (2 forms) and we were able to take her home. The price was very low ($200) and she already had all of her shots and was spayed. The price also included a free vet visit, so we could get her checked out one more time.
Our dog has been such a wonderful addition to our family. She is very sweet. She was already potty trained and knew the command sit, so it has been really easy having her in the house. She is healthy and full of energy. She loves going for walk, but also loves to cuddle on the coach. The positive energy she adds to our home is remarkable. We are so happy we found her and want to thank all the people at Second Chance for making the process so easy and for taking such good care of her until we adopted her. We feel extremely lucky and blessed to have our dog in our life and are so thankful for organizations like Second Chance!
If you are considering getting a new pet, please look into adoption. I definitely recommend Second Chance.
The only issue I had was that Nancy, in the name of "educating" adoptive owners, gives a lot of information and advice, including brands of cat food to avoid, what type of food dishes not to use, and what vaccinations not to allow your vet to administer, all based on her own anecdotal experience, which seemed to undermine one's own experience and relationship with a veterinarian. As a veteran cat owner, I felt as if I was being lectured by the "crazy cat lady." It seemed like the foster parents were a little scared of her too... But, on the whole, this was an easy way to choose a cat without the cat having to suffer a caged existence. Bravo to cat foster parents!
"We’re glad you had an overall good experience. We would like to address a few of your comments. The education process includes, among other things, letting the adopter know what kind of food the foster cat (or dog) is eating so the adopter can purchase the first bag of the same food so the cat (dog) doesn’t have digestive issues in the new home; letting the adopter know about “kitty acne” which can be caused by using plastic dishes; and suggesting not having the cat vaccinated against feline leukemia since the cat was already tested negative for that and FIV. We receive many wonderful comments and thanks from people who appreciate receiving information about care and introduction to help make the transition smoother on the adopter and the cat(s). We are sorry if you didn’t want to be provided with the information. The foster in this situation was not a regular foster – she was a friend of the foster who took the cat into her home on an emergency temporary basis. This friend did us a huge favor by caring for the cat but was hesitant going through an adoption since she had never done one before; you may have construed that as being scared of the screener rather than the temporary foster not feeling confident in handling the adoption process. We hope this helps you understand our process of wanting to be sure adopters are provided with adequate information. We are pleased he found a forever home with you and your family. Feel free to contact us any time with questions or concerns."
