Everything went very smoothly.  He was able to quickly identify the problem and fix it in no time at all.  He also went out of his way to make room in schedule.  I won't hesitate to call Dalum's in the future.

Jay answered the phone the first time my husband called him, and readily made an appointment to fix our problems, at our convenience. He was SO quick to diagnose and fix the problems, was professional, respectful (took his shoes off, worked neatly), was prompt -- all the things I expect in a professional with expertise. His rates are reasonable, and you really get your money's worth because he's SPEEDY in addition to thorough and accurate. However, here's what sets him apart: he's proactive. While fixing my problems, he shared his knowledge and tips that left me more educated and informed about current and future electrical requirements. It's so important and valuable to me when experts share their knowledge because then I can make better decisions (e.g. dimmer or no dimmer? LED or CFL?).

Jay answered his phone immediately.  I needed help upgrading my nonGFCI kitchen outlets to GFCI outlets.  I needed Jay to do this immediately as it was part of the sale of my home which is closing this week.  The previous repair person who upgraded to GFCI outlets did not affix wiring carefully enough and Jay fixed it immediately.  He responded fast, completed it fast and is someone I will use again.  I own a condo in St. Paul that I rent out as well and I will use him again for any electrical needs I have.

I scheduled my appointment with Jay online with Angie's list.  He promptly called to discuss the job, confirm a time and provided a price.  He obtained the necessary permit to install the outlet.  He arrived on time and completed the job in less than an hour.  He was extremely professional, knowledgeable and courteous.  He explained his work and answered questions.  I would definitely call him again and refer him to my friends.  Great service and great value!

Jay was very responsive and accommodating to my schedule. He determined the issue, which ended up being a larger, non-emergency issue and gave recommendations for next steps and potential costs.

It was difficult installation as the ceiling was 18ft high. He was efficient and thorough. I appreciated the additional advice he gave me on taking care of the fan.

Jay had to go into our attic to add pipes that were never properly installed or vented.  He had his work cut out for him.  The attic isn't easy to get into or move around in.  He had to lay on his back and retro-fit a pipe.  He knew that our painter was going to remove an old central air conditioning vent so Jay got it ready to make it easy on the painter who will not have to crawl around in the attic.
     Jay Dalum is personable, caring, true to his word and an all around professional.  He has worked hard to own his own business so he can schedule activities with his family.  He deeply cares about his community and making sure that he explains the benefits to installing or fixing what you think you want.  After consulting with Mr. Dalum, I changed my mind on a couple of items that I thought I wanted.  I did not even consider a dimmer switch on the bathroom lights and I absolutely love it.  Instead of waking up in the middle of the night and turning on a glaring bright light over the vanity, it can be turned down to the brightness of a night light.  Thank you Dalum's Electric Service!

I had made an appointment with Jay Dalum to install the new light fixture.  Because of a conflict, I had to ask him to reschedule.  He was very accommodating and immediately changed to suit my time frame.  I also appreciated that he called me several hours before the scheduled time to verify our appointment.  He did excellent work.  In addition he gave me advice regarding the electrical fixtures in my home and offered to help me choose materials for projects that I need to have done in the near future.  I will definitely continue using his services for my electrical needs.

He replaced several GFI outlets and some light switches and everything is working again - yea!  He was very professional, experienced, and friendly.  I would definitely use his services again.

We had four 20 year old outdoor halogen light fixtures in the back of our home with multiple problems.  I posted the service request on the List and Jay responded promptly.  After several pleasant message exchanges, an appointment was set up.    
During the installation, Jay found out that the source of the problem of two of the lights was a broken wire chewed up by a squirrel in the attic.  He showed me the damaged wires which were shorted in several locations.
We felt very lucky to have Jay to work on this task.  In our situation, we need someone not only with good electrical skill, but also with good engineering mind combined with multiple other skills.  He safely reached out a few difficult places to get the wires and fixture repaired/replaced.  He cut the ceiling drywall opening correctly and professionally (according to my drywall contractor who closed up the openings today) to reach out the wires in the attic area which was too small to enter.  The work site was kept neat during and after the job.  He also fixed several other issues on the side during the visit.
Jay is very conscientious, efficient, thorough, and professional in his work performance. I felt that Jay goes ?above and beyond?
when he is working on the solution to a problem and works with his clients to resolve the situation.

Immediate response to my request for service.  Very courteous, professional, and best of all fixed the issue 100%.  Our dog loved him too ... brought treats for her!

Mr. Dalum did prompt, excellent work at a very reasonable rate for an after hours emergency call. We were very pleased with the service and will not hesitate to hire him again for future work.

Jay was the most professional and easy to do business with tradesman I have ever dealt with.  WOW!  Can't say enough nice things.  Very punctual, finished the job when he said he would.  I highly recommend this company if you ever need any electrical work.  Will definitely use him again should any future projects come up.

We had a great experience with Jay Dalum 2 years ago when we moved into our house, so we hired him again to add a few more outlets.  Our house is from the 1870's, so it has some of the typical challenges like knob & tube wiring, old style construction, etc.

Jay came over quickly to look at what we wanted and give us a quote.  He was very helpful in making suggestions about where to locate the outdoor outlets and their indoor switches.  Just like last time, I soon received a clear, detailed quote in my email that carefully laid out the proposed work. Jay showed up promptly to do the work and finished quickly.  He took great care not to make any mess in our living room, carefully covering the rug and piano before inspecting the ceiling fan. As always, Jay took the time to show me everything he did and explain it.  I always appreciate his helpfulness: while he was outside, he tacked up my loose antenna cable without being asked.

We purchased an old house from the 1870's and the inspector noticed quite a few things wrong with the wiring: missing grounds, reversed polarity, knob and tube, etc.  The old 60 amp panel was completely full, with no room even for a new garbage disposal.
We found Jay Dalum on Angie's list, and he came out the day after I called him.  He was very friendly, offered great suggestions, and never pressured me to add options.  We replaced the electrical service with a 200 amp panel so we would have room for future expansion.  Jay added quite a few new circuits, receptacles, and light fixtures, as well.
I found him to be trustworthy and competent.  Jay arrived promptly and completely his work quickly, taking the time to explain everything he did and answer my questions.  He labeled everything clearly and went above and beyond by neatly re-running other basement wiring that was beyond the scope of his work.

They showed up on time and completed.  I was pleased with the service however I thought it was unual that they did not give me a receipt.

Jay made time to do this urgent project the day I called.  He pointed out some additional issues that would have been a problem in my upcoming home sale inspection.  He was VERY helpful, very nice, and did a great job!

I called Dalum Electric on New Year's Eve after finding him on Angie's List. I had purchased the Nest Protect as an Xmas gift for my wife (don't snort; she's an über geek who loves gadgets). I assumed he'd call back in a few days, and we'd schedule a time for installation. To my shock, he called me in less than an hour! He asked if we were busy that night. I said no, as we're not huge party people. He responded that he could do it in a few hours.
When he arrived, everything was as perfect as I could ask. Jay was courteous, professional and fast. He had the Nest Protect installed in under 15 minutes. He said, "Well, as long as I'm here, is there anything else I could do?"
And in fact there were some light switches that we'd like to have re-wired to make logical sense. He did them all, and never even suggested we needed to pay him more.
Since then, we have called him for several more Nest installations, and he is now our electrician of choice!
