"Thanks for the positive review. This Homeowner is a [Removed Personal Info] and a [Removed Personal Info] so it was fun to hear about their perspectives and work. I like to read about [Removed Personal Info] as a hobby so if I had to sum up this job from the initial proposal to the final touch up it would be as follows: The homeowner requested a proposal from Complete Custom Painting and accepted that proposal, not to promote the public interest, but for their own self interest. Complete Custom Painting did excellent work, not because we wanted the homeowners walls and ceilings to look awesome (because we never see them again after the job is done) but because we want excellent reviews, a reasonable profit and a growing business. As if lead by an invisible hand, our self interests have helped promote the public interest. -A. Smith (kind of). Have a great 2016! Call us when you are ready to paint your new place."
"My policy for my company is to do each job well enough to earn a referral. Obviously any type of review where the customer feels they got less than an "A" job will probably not result in a referral. If the review is (sent to us directly or posted on Angie's List) we ALWAYS contact the customer and ask "Is there anyway we can improve our standing in your mind" That may include: doing work for free to prove ourselves, fixing something that may have been missed, apologizing, or an explanation to clear up an unanswered question. While a review less than an "A" is rarely given to my company, I will make an attempt to contact this homeowner and try and improve our standing in their mind. Outside of my immediate family, my business is what I care about most so obviously I want it to be viewed positively, operate well and earn the best reputation possible."
If you want it done right, and not have to worry about it, call Nick and Complete Custom Painting. We will never work with another painter.
"Thanks to the Old Spaghetti Factory. Love your food and accommodating employees and managers."
Nick came first to do the estimate for the painting. HIs estimate specified everything that they would paint, the number of cedar shakes they would replace (woodpecker damage) the type of paint that would be used. He recommended that I call Sherwin Williams to select paint. They sent a consultant to my house who helped me select colors. Painting was scheduled quite quickly. The painting crew was professional and efficient. Job was completed in a couple of days and looks great. Nick gave very personal service: he stayed in touch with me during the process, reviewed the work when done, and took care of minor issues that needed to be addressed afterward. He was always easy to reach and always responded.
"Thanks [Removed Member Name]. Have a great summer!"
"Thanks [Member Name Removed]. Nice windows, great house!!"
"Thanks [member name removed], best of luck with your move!! Have a great summer."
"If I ever get a review under an "A" I try to 1. Figure out why, and 2. Figure out if there is anything I can do to improve the review (that includes fixing anything the customer feels is wrong or free work to make amends). I value Angie's List, and feel it is a great medium for companies who do excellent work. I also value every potential customer, so when someone gives me a review like this it feels bad. I hold my business as the most important thing in my life following my Wife and kids, (obviously I don't want negative reviews). We never did any work for this customer, but we did provide a written bid. The customer feels the bid process was not to their liking so they gave me a negative review. As a response I emailed the customer and asked if I could paint a small room in their home for free (or provide the primer for their exterior painting project free of charge) knowing that I would not get any work whatsoever out of the deal. The customer never responded to the offer. I feel bad the experience was not as they expected. We are very aware Angie's List Customers want excellent service and that is what we aim to provide."
I emailed Nick initially about the job. He was prompt in returning my call and scheduled a time within the next day or two to come out and take a look at the job. He provided me with a detailed and accurate bid. His pricing was higher than the competitors however I checked his references and he was willing to go the extra mile to make sure that our needs were met. Even though his bid was higher we received the value that we were expecting.
They painted the walls and trim on a kitchen and a family room, painted the frames on all our kitchen cabinets, and sprayed the cabinet doors, the drawer fronts, and 5 metal radiator covers. The crew took the cabinet doors, drawer boxes and radiator covers off-site and sprayed them at his shop. They all look wonderful.
The painters on the job, Trevor and Missy, did great work. They were neat, conscientious, and professional. They showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves, and did great work. In addition, they were creative and helped sort out some challenging issues we had with cabinet hardware.
We were on a tight timeframe as we're putting our house on the market. Nick was very helpful in getting a high quality job done very quickly and met our needs. He was prompt in responding to telephone calls and emails. I would highly recommend him and would happily use them again.
In addition to doing a flawless job on the walls of the family room, Trevor repaired a small water stained area on the ceiling. It matched the rest of the ceiling perfectly and because the entire ceiling did not have to be re-painted, he saved me hundreds of dollars. I'm also trying to lengthen the life of my 28 year old wood deck for a few more years. Even though it is old, it is still quite solid, but the surface was badly peeling from previous types of stains. Nick had Trevor prepare the surface and apply "Super Deck", a product that contains an "elastomeric coating" that goes on thick. It was much cheaper than building a new deck and it looks great. How long it will last still remains to be seen, but if it gives my deck a few more years, I'll be happy.
In summary: Complete Custom Painting is great to work with, they did a quality job and the price was very reasonable.
"This is one of my favorite jobs of the year. The homeowners knew what they wanted, they gave a descriptive example of what they wanted, they checked to see if I could indeed deliver on what they wanted, I confirmed that I could indeed deliver on what they wanted, they allowed me to describe how I could deliver what they wanted and they got what they wanted. It works the same way almost every single time. The customer asked smart questions, I gave honest answers, and they got a great job. Best of luck!!!"
"Thanks!!"
I gave Nick an A for the finished job but it was a nightmare getting to it. He told me that they would not leave until I was satisfied with the work done, and that is true.
The crew that did the job was very unprofessional. They brought no water or drinks for themselves despite working in the hot sun. My wife and I were bringing out ice water to them the first few days. They had to borrow an extension cord for the paint sprayer cause they had none. They would paint in spots then move to a different side of the house. At one point I counted 12 incomplete areas of paint. They would put on the second coat while other areas were still unpainted. Very bad use of time management.
I asked Nick to join me for the final walkthrough and he found a lot of things undone. Despite the house being 25 years old, they did no caulking repair before painting. There was a lot of overspray not touched up. They didn't prep the deck and after a rain, the paint buckled badly. Other than a light washing of the house, there was no prep work done, prep work that I assumed would be taken care of.
To his credit, Nick had them come back and fix everything to my satisfaction. He also gave me a discount for extra work I did and the use of my cords and time. He gets an A for the finished job.
The reason I am writing this review is because of two nagging questions that keep playing back in my mind;
On the initial visit, Nick told me this crew had been with them for 3 years. A week later on the phone, he told me it was 11 months, and on the final walk through, he told me 2 years. I wonder what the truth is.
The other thing is that his lead man asked me if they could simply caulk the holes in the boards from woodpecker damage and I said use your best judgement. Nick, on his final inspection made them rip them out and replace the boards. I picked up one of the boards they had pulled off, and it was so rotten, it crumbled in my hand. This tells me the guy intentionally patched the rotton board hoping no one would notice.
This to me, is the definition of unethical behavior.
Nick himself, is a nice guy and kept his promises to the end. I realize that this review reflects the work of one employee for the most part, but looking at this company's profile on Angie's List, I expected so much more from start to finish.
"I appreciate the review. This was not our best job. Like with every job I made sure everything was completed to the full satisfaction of the homeowner. I also gave the homeowner some money off, because my painter came unprepared and missed some spots. Like with any business that is growing, I had to give some additional responsibilities to some of my employees. This painter that is used to working alongside me, came up a little short and I take responsibility for this. In the end I ended up doing some extra work for the homeowner on his foundation free of charge. My overall thought is that while the process was not as perfect as we are used to offering, the end result is actually the same. My painter learned a valuable lesson, I learned a valuable lesson and the homeowner got a near perfect job. Thanks for the constructive review."
