Insurance Agencies
Short version / highlights -
- Steven Schiller (owner and lead agent) was unhelpful, and unresponsive during a claim process - Steven Schiller cancelled our desired insurance company (without telling us, or asking us) - and cost us hundreds more - to "SAVE HIM A HEADACHE" - Steven Schiller called and YELLED at my mother, leaving multiple messages of disrespectful comments - Steven Schiller called me an "Idiot" and "Simply unintelligent" - Schiller Insurance quoted us $1,500 more per year on our combined policies than we are at right now - on our own. - I advise everyone, even my worst enemies not to use this company. It's like wishing death on someone, you just simply don't wish Schiller Insurance on anyone.
The long version -
The professionalism of Mr. Steven Schiller (owner, and lead agent) is downright disgusting, terrible, and horrible.
We have had nothing but issues with Steven Schiller Insurance company. We had been insured for a few years with his company with Home and Auto insurance (3 total policies). The time finally came to file a claim on the roof of our house because of some nasty storm damage which took off a good portion of the roof's shingles. From start to finish we had to deal with our contractor and insurance COMPANY (note - not steven schiller) directly. Steven just let us go ahead and fix the job ourselves. We didn't have any issues getting the roof fixed because our insurance company did a fantastic job, and so did our contractor. We didn't really mind having to do the legwork ourselves with the insurance company, but at the same time started to wonder why we are paying an agent to do this work for us.
The issues with Schiller Insurance started soon after our roof repair. We received a letter in the mail a few weeks after our roof was fixed saying we "cancelled our policy with our homeowners insurance". We were in shock because we didn't cancel a thing, and after the great service they provided to us during our roof replacement, we wouldn't want anyone else insuring our home. We called the insurance agency and they told us our "private insurance agent decided to cancel all policies with our company". We immediately called Steven Schiller. He informed us that our insurance company was "too hard to work with" and plain "jerks" and told us "I am not working with their company anymore, it's too much of a headache". We basically asked who we were going to get instead, and what price we would be getting and he quoted us hundreds of dollars more for the same exact coverage - so he could save a headache. I proceeded to tell him we aren't interested, and we have had a fantastic experience with our homeowners company and will just keep the insurance with them anyway, and not go through him. He got extremely angry, and told us we wouldn't get a better quote. I ended up calling around for home (and auto) insurance and ended up finding quotes hundreds of dollars less. I proceeded to call Steven to tell him I would be cancelling my insurance through him, and so will my mother - and this is where he flipped out. He actually hung up on me more than once as he was desperately trying to keep my services within his company and I kept telling him to just cancel them (he wasn't willing to work with our needs, and that is why I wanted to cancel this policy).
This is where it gets extreme and the reason for my review on here -
He hung up on me in the middle of me saying "please, just cancel my policy". He called my mother about 20 seconds later to try and convince her why she needed him. My mom was about 20 feet away from me at the time of him calling her, and proceeded to call me an "idiot" and"simply unintelligent" because of my decision to switch companies. (I would like to let everyone know, I am college educated, and in charge of a 2 million dollar company, so apparently HE must be the unintelligent one).
My mom blew up on him and told him not to talk about her son or her family that way. She also began her lecture on how a business should be run, and on how disrespectful it is to treat someone that way. He actually hung up on her. He then called back, and left a message literally YELLING into the phone at my mom. Simply put, we had enough. We cancelled all of our business with them, and signed up through a few companies that we liked (including the company that fixed our roof) and are on our own right now buying insurance ourselves. We have saved about $1,500/year on insurance compared to what we were paying with the exact same coverage.
I don't know how much worse of an experience you could get from a company than with Mr. Schiller's Insurance company. It was the most disrespectful, mean, disgusting thing I have ever had to deal with. I run a business and I have never DREAMED to call my customers nor my employees any of the things he called me. I am so thankful for angie's list for providing us with a place to tell people about this company. We were going to report his company to the BBB, but I figured angies list would be more effective. I advise anyone out there to stay far, far away from this company - and to check angies list for a more reputable insurance agent, or better yet - check for prices yourselves and save a ton of money like we did.
-Please note, I am NOT an insurance agent, nor do I run an insurance agency. I run a retail organization, and am just like any one of you reading this hoping to save someone the headache I went through.
