A 1 Ceiling Specialists

They called back and informed us that they would not deal with us until the tile was down. We hired another plasterer from the list who came before the tiles were down and recommended a handyman to help us get the tiles down.

This was the 3rd time I'd had the ceiling done. (That's a whole separate story.) The first time was done by Larry from A-1, and it was great, no problems at all. The second time I was under tighter budget constraints, and I had the work done by another company. They did a second-rate job and left my place a mess. So, when it was time to do it again, I went straight back to A-1 ceilings and paid a little extra for the job, I SHOULD have gotten done before. Larry was extremely friendly and easy to work with. He showed up a little late, but had already called to let me know he was running behind. He arrived within 5 minutes of his revised estimate. There was no debate on price; he charged exactly what was estimated. Most importantly, he did the job right, he did it fast and he cleaned up nicely afterwards. I hope to never need any ceiling work again, but if I do, I'll never bother calling anyone else.

He was very pleasant to work with -- punctual, efficient, explained each step he was taking and why, was very careful with our new hardwood floors. His Angie's List and 'cash payment' discounts were a great plus.

I did call Larry about the crack in the ceiling and he did offer to come check on it but since I was taking down all the wallpaper and needed the walls to be prepped I didn't want him to bother as I knew things would have to be gone over again anyway.

Mr. Forsman of A-1 was courteous and prompt in all of our dealings. His bid for this job was the highest I received, but I decided to hire him because it seemed the quality of the work would be similarly high. The sheetrock repairs went fairly well, although after he left I found some nail pops that he missed, which he promptly fixed. The painting was less successful, partly due to significant paint fumes and partly due to the fact that the paint was applied with a sprayer rather than being rolled on, resulting in a number of noticeable drips and a generally uneven appearance. Because of that, a second coat of paint was unexpectedly required for parts of the ceiling, which Mr. Forsman rolled on. While the final product was, in the end, acceptable, it was not the seamless, high quality job I expected for the price paid.

I called A-1 Ceiling Specialists, and Larry Forsman called me back the same day - we set up a date for him to come out. He was very professional and gave me an estimate which I accepted. He came on time when he said he would. He marked off the complete room with plastic and even moved a chair into another room and completed the job the same day. After repairing and painting the ceilings, he spray-coated them with an oil to seal the work. He cleaned up afterwards leaving no mess. He did say there would be a smell from the oil for a day or two - the only problem with that is that I have had the windows open constantly for three days and there is still a smell. But I understand this is normal. I definitely would recommend this company to anyone - he was very polite to work with and very reasonably priced.

Larry did a great job. We thought the price was very good. He came in and got the job done in one afternoon. The ceiling looks great. He left behind no mess or clean-up for us. I would highly recommend Larry to anyone.

Very prompt with returning phone calls and showing up when he said he would. He gave us the Angie's list discount right away on the estimate when we said we are Angie's list members. After they were done with the painting, I had to do some minor clean up in the house. They also left all of their used plastic sheets/tarps in my garbage can. They did not put the plastic in garbage bags, just stuffed them into my overflowing trash bin in the garage. I wasn't happy about this. All of our garbage must be in bags so I had to take it all out of the cans and fit it in bags. I didn't have any room left in the trash bins for normal waste. I would expect that they would remove all used materials. Overall, it was a good job, but they make sure they take their garbage with them.

This is the second job Larry has done for us. We had 8-9 holes in the ceiling from some electrical work. Larry was able to come out on a Saturday, which was very nice of him. He was friendly, kept the work-space clean, and worked fast. The result of his patching was very smooth.

Larry got back to me the same day I called for an estimate. He was there the next day fifteen minutes before the appointment time. He was there about forty five minutes and took the measurements. We signed the papers, and two day's later, he was out to do the job. He showed up a half hour early, and it took him four and one half hours to do the job. He sprayed one coat of texture and then one coat of oil. It came out great! It smelled for about a week, but it was not too bad. He cleaned-up very nice. He charged $1,120 less than the 5% Angie's discount which brought it to $1,064, and I paid in cash $1,018. It was a good deal. He was a very nice guy who was also professional and punctual. I would highly recommend him.

I highly recommend A-1 Ceiling Specialists and Larry Forsman for ceiling work. I initially hired Larry for my kitchen ceiling and later brought him back for my dining room and living room and a yet third time for a lower level bath and hallway. He is very skilled and is a perfectionist at his job. He estimates and plans extremely well. I cannot believe any other vendor can compete with Larry as for price AND quality of work. He is a one man shop which means total quality control. He does not have subs! I have used contractors in the past that use subs in their business model and have some very mixed and usually bad results. One of these contractors is listed in Angie's List and has surprising high ratings. However, Larry also has high ratings but deserves them. I encourage anyone to let Larry provide them with an estimate. I can be a reference as for his quality end product.

Larry is very nice and professional. Even though his quote was $75 more than some competitors I could tell that he had done this before and it would be easy for him. A very good communicator called multiple time when running late. There was no mess, and he cleaned everything up very well. I highly recommend.

Larry came and gave me an estimate. We were able to arrange for him to come back just a couple of days later. He finished in one day. The area was taped/plastic off well. He left the area clean. The next day I noticed a small crack (1/2" to 1"). I called Larry and left him a message. He called back that evening and said he would be back the next day, and he was!!! My project looks wonderful. I had left it undone for over 2 years because I wasn't sure who I should call. Thank you Angie's List for helping me find Larry and A-1 Ceiling Specialists!

Larry showed up on time and was very reasonably priced. He is very pleasant to work with. The overall quality was good. There were some drips on the walls that were not cleaned up and he left some ladder scuff marks on the stairway walls.

Prompt to arrive for estimate, clear about what would be done, promptly arrived for work, very nice to have in house, trusted to leave him there while I went to work, clean ,neat, very nice job, reasonably priced, worked very fast.

PRICE WAS RIGHT, WORK WAS GREAT EXCEPT THAT SOME PAINT GOT ON A FEW THINGS IN THE LIVING ROOM.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS COMPANY WAS VERY GOOD. MR. FORSMAN GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE THAT WAS MUCH MORE REASONABLE THAN I HAD EXPECTED. HE TOLD ME THAT HE COULD DO THE JOB WITHIN THE WEEK. HE SHOWED UP ON TIME, DID THE WORK SATISFACTORILY AND LEFT THE JOB SITE CLEAN. I WOULD DEFINITELY HIRE THIS COMPANY AGAIN.

LARRY DID A GREAT JOB. WE HAD SOME SPOTS THAT HAD WATER DAMAGE AND HE REPAIRED THEM. THE CEILING HAD VERY UNEVEN TEXTURE, SO HE APPLIED ANOTHER ROUND OF TEXTURE AND THEN PAINTED ALL OF THE CEILINGS ON OUR MAIN FLOOR. HE WAS VERY EFFICIENT AND DID A GREAT JOB OF CLEANING UP. THIS WORK WAS DONE IN APRIL 2004 AND I CAN'T REMEMBER THE TOTAL COST, BUT IT WAS WORTHY EVERY PENNY! HE TOOK LESS TIME TO GET THE WHOLE JOB DONE THAN IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN ME TO JUST DO THE PREP WORK. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND HIM!

HE WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND PERSISTENT IN PLAYING PHONE TAG. LARRY ONLY DOES CEILINGS AND I DECIDED I WANTED TO COMBINE THE CEILING PROJECT WITH SOME GENERAL PAINTING SO I WENT WITH A CONTRACTOR WHO DOES BOTH.

LARRY ANSWERED THE INQUIRY, GAVE US A BID, AND VOLUNTEERED RECOMMENDATIONS ON WHAT TO DO ABOUT VENTS AND PIPES THAT MAY LEAK AGAIN. HE CAME ON TIME, FINISHED ON TIME, CLEANED UP THE SPACE, AND BLENDED THE CEILING WORK WITH OTHER PARTS OF THE CEILING BEAUTIFULLY. 30% AND 15% LOWER IN COSTS THAN OTHER BIDS.
