They had the mouldings I needed.
Description of Work: Shaw/Stewart is the place to go for unusual mouldings, etc. Their prices are higher but they usually have superior quality lumber.

Horrible, rude. Salesman said, "I usually only spend time on people who are buying from me," and wandered away. Marvin might want to find a better way for customers to see their products.
Description of Work: Went to look at Marvin windows for an addition; my contractor is using another supplier but I wanted to see what was being ordered. Found them on Marvin's site as a showroom.

I met with Alex at the State Fair and liked the new Marvin windows they had on display. I sent him an email a couple days later for a quote on the windows. He never responded. A month later a manager sends me an email asking how my experience was. I tell him what happened and he apologizes for the mix-up, but still doesn't run the quote. What kind of business is this? It feels like something fishy is going on with their sales process. We haven't had similar problems with other lumber yards in Minneapolis.
Description of Work: We tried to get a window quote from Shaw/Stewart Lumber after seeing them at the State Fair.

Had them out to my mothers give an estimate for a patio door, 4 windows and a storm door. They said it would take a couple of days. We went to the lumber company and picked out products but were told the person that came out was in a meeting. Its been almost 2 months- after several phone calls they still have not provided estimate. I don't know if this the whole company or just this one person but what a lousy way to do business. If they were to busy how about at least a phone call?? Why bother coming out and wasting our time?

I went directly to Shaw/Stewart building to look at the products they sell. The sales person, Julie D, was very helpful in picking out the products that would suit my home and me. They had a good selection of products. I decided on an entry door, hardware, and the screened storm door. Julie gave me an estimate for the cost of the products. I had a print out from another big box retailer of the screen door I choose and informed her the price was less at that company. She matched the price and said they wanted to be competitive. Within a day Julie called and set up an appointment to come to my home to measure for the doors. She followed through by promptly coming to my home and took the measurements and stated she would get the products ordered promptly. I believe I got good service and a fair competitive price.
Description of Work: In June of 2014 I purchased a new entry door, new door hardware and storm door at Shaw Steward Lumber Company and contracted with Harmony Homes for installation. I am reviewing Harmony Homes separately as I understand Harmony is a separate company “associated” with Shaw/Stewart.

I spoke to Jeff Blomberg at Shaw/Stewart Lumber 3 times by phone and we communicated via email to review an order for two exterior doors. On July 31st, we finalized the details (e.g., paint color, hardware). I didn't hear anything after that. On August 6th, I sent Jeff an email confirming the order and the door installer called him personally a few days before that. Jeff never responded to my email. I was traveling most of August, but I emailed again on Aug 17th to confirm the doors had been ordered and to get a time-frame for delivery. Again Jeff doesn't reply. I finally called Shaw/Stewart Lumber's general line directly and they can't find any order under my name so they follow up with Jeff. Jeff calls me the next morning and says he did not order the doors. He couldn't provide any believable explanation. He says he sent an email asking for payment. I ask him when he sent the email because I never received it. He says "some time" after my August 17th email -- so, three weeks after I confirm the details of the order, he decides to ask for payment? That didn't make any sense, especially since I emailed him on the 6th to confirm the order had been placed. I asked for the exact date he sent an email for payment. Then he suddenly says "Oh wait! that email never sent. It's still in my Outbox." That isn't believable either since we communicated multiple times on the same email thread. He also never called, which is what a responsible salesperson would do if he was awaiting payment from a client eager to complete an order. Jeff was aware that another contractor botched the door order so I was already behind schedule and turned to Shaw/Stewart based on a recommendation. That was in July. It's now September and the doors are still not ordered. The service I received from Shaw/Stewart Lumber was abysmal.
Description of Work: Provider was supposed to order two exterior doors.

I was recommended by our architect to contact a sales man called Bernie O'Connor. He came out to the house to look at our windows, take measurements and gave us a bid for all of them. From the beginning I really liked Bernie - he seemed friendly, professional, very knowledgeable and very honest. Bernie also set up a time at the showroom to go through all the windows and selections we could make. It was very educational and made our decisions so much easier. Due to a huge remodel it took us until February to order anything. But when we did, Bernie came out again to verify his measurements, he made really good suggestions about selections and he did not try to oversell anything or convince us to buy more windows than we could afford at the moment. The ordering and payment was smooth and when the windows had arrived to the lumber yard, Bernie's collegue Gary, also helpful and friendly, called to let us know and reminded us when he hadn't heard from us for a while. When the windows came, the measurements were perfect and the carpenter we used for the installation, complemented Bernie of the measurements. We have a brick house ie very little wiggle room so it would have been very tricky if there would have been a mistake. The windows and porch door look great. I have continued to use Bernie for trim and other building materials and he continues to do a great job. We have just done a huge remodel and have found that professionals like Bernie are few and far between. Summary: quality, fairness, honesty, direct communication and outstanding service.
Description of Work: Bought windows and am in process of matching and buying trim.

JULIE WAS FABULOUS TO WORK WITH!!! SHE ANSWERED ALL OF MY PICKY QUESTIONS, LIKE WERE THE WINDOWS PRIMED WITH WATER OR OIL-BASED PRIMER; AND WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GLAZING COMPOUND? SHE CALLED MARVIN IN WARROAD TO BE SURE SHE HAD THE RIGHT ANSWERS FOR ME! WHEN I HAD AN ISSUE ABOUT MEETING EGRESS (LOTS OF CONTRACTORS AND THE CITY COULDN'T SEEM TO GIVE ME A STRAIGHT ANSWER ABOUT THAT) SHE HELPED CALM ME DOWN WITH HER GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR AND SPORTIVENESS. SHE ALSO HAD GREAT FOLLOW UP ONCE THE WINDOWS WERE ORDERED AND INSTALLED. NICE SHOWROOM TO CHECK OUT WINDOW OPTIONS.
Description of Work: I USED THE SHAW/STEWART LUMBER MARVIN WINDOW SHOWROOM TO HELP ME SELECT MY WINDOWS. I HIRED EXTERIOR ENHANCEMENTS TO DO THE INSTALLATION AND GEORGE ORDERED THE WINDOWS THROUGH JULIE. I MADE THE CONNECTION FOR GEORGE AND HE SAID HE GOT A BETTER DEAL GOING THROUGH JULIE THAN HIS OLD SUPPLIER.
