"I am sorry you feel that way about your inspection but I do not have any record of doing an inspection for you. Is it possible you had someone else do your inspection? Regarding the report...Inspectors are not code inspectors. That is the city's job. We have to follow our Standards of Practice which are generally higher than code standards. Codes are the worst way you are allowed to do anything on a home and they do not cover all of the safety, health, and liability concerns. I would never inspect a home for my clients from that low of a bar. I belong to a national and state organization that have required or provided ongoing education to me for over 12 years besides my field experience of 1000's of inspections. Even though it seems I may not be the inspector you are reviewing, I am open to having you contact me to talk over some of your concerns and help you understand what a home inspector job is all about."
Although many home inspectors suggest the client spend the entire inspection time with the inspector, Dave said he preferred to spend the first 2 or 3 hours by himself completely focusing on getting to know the property. Then he would spend as much time as needed to talk with the client about what he found. When I arrived, he was finishing up his inspection. We spent the next 1 1/2 hours together going through the house as he pointed out all the areas that needed review, repair, replacement and monitoring. He also pointed out things that were positive in the property. He answered all my questions and assured me of his availability anytime in the future that I may have questions.
