The project went very well. Ron was the project manager and was engaged from the beginning. He offered a lot of really useful advice during the design phase with the architect to help save money and make the project go more smoothly. He spent a lot of time on-site personally, which was nice. Ron was always available and responsive. He communicated clearly with us when he wouldn't be available. The subcontract crews were all professional. Overall, a very well managed project. We had a few surprises that couldn't have been seen before things were opened up, but Ron handled them swiftly and efficiently. Rain cooperated and overall, we finished ahead of schedule and on budget. Would definitely hire again.
Description of Work: We were doing a large addition that added about 1200 sf to our lower level.

Very good. I have a complicated roof and the job was almost completed in two days. Steve is Northrup's roofing guy and he had an experienced crew that was respectful of the house, my garden and cleaned up well after completion. During the work Steve was responsive when I asked to have a certain reglet size (flashing that is inserted in a line cut in stucco) used on a particular part of the front house to make it look like the other flashings. This required a separate manufacture and it was completed in a manner of hours. No additional charge was made. Steve was responsive and went out of his way to satisfy this customer.
Description of Work: Remove old shingles, re-roof with new shingles and insert reglet flashings in stucco at roof line.

They did not do the work because I got laid-off and I do not have the money, but I really liked the people that came out. The guy seemed pretty ethical because I was asking him if he could tear it down and rebuild it. He said that honestly the foundation is strong enough that I did not need to rebuild it. He said that we could do some repair and it would be cheaper for me. So, that was nice. They were prompt, personable, ethical, and straightforward. I would have been very willing to use them.
Description of Work: I got an estimate for rebuilding part of a garage from Northrup.

It went very well. Steve came out and diagnosed the problem right away. And he gave a very reasonable estimate for his work. There were no problems. He was professional. He diagnosed some other internal water damage as from internal condensation so we could address.

Very, very well ! Ron at Northrup developed a plan to re-sculpt our backyard to create a purposeful rain garden, with underground casements installed to catch the water. His plan included working closely with Ibes Landscaping to design a small patio area surrounded by Aspen, Columnar Maples, and climbing hyrdrangeas on a screen, giving us newfound privacy in our very urban backyard!
Description of Work: Creating and executing a plan to deal with our swampy backyard. Because our yard is at the lowest point on the block, whenever it rained it would fill with water, creating a pond which would take days, sometimes weeks to evaporate. Northrup came up with a plan to turn our backyard into a rain garden--to dig out the very back, reslope the land, and using decorative rock and stones, hostas and other shade-friendly perennials, put in a beautiful rain garden.

Overall the project went very well. I collected quotes in late 2014 and selected Northrup in December 2014. The demo began in January 2015 with roof removal in February and new walls/insulation going in soon thereafter. The overall project took about 7.5 months from start to finish. I was expecting about 4-5 months, but there were the inevitable delays throughout the process. I began with one large open room and in the end I now have a large open master bedroom with a small kitchenette, a full bathroom, a walk-in closet and a deck off the back. My general contractor and main point of contact was Mark White, the owner of Northrup. He was very responsive and, especially at the beginning of the project, was great at giving routine updates on the project. There were some points throughout the project where I would have liked him to give me information a bit more quickly (e.g. the wrong sized windows were ordered, so my windows did not go in as expected. I had to call and ask why the windows were not in) or where I felt rushed to make decisions on counter tops and other things that could not ultimately be installed anyway for several weeks, which I felt drew out the project a bit. The end product is fantastic! They have been pretty good about coming post-project completion to fix a couple of issues (one urgent plumbing issue which was addressed that day, one less critical soffit leaking issue which required some minor pestering by me). I moved into the space in August 2015 and now one year later, things seem to be holding strong. I will need to re-paint and re-stain the deck sooner than I anticipated with the cedar siding and deck not holding the original paint as well as I had hoped. Other than those minor updates, I could not be happier!
Description of Work: I had a 1.5 story house and I wanted to convert the upper floor to a master suite. I was interested in keeping the 1.5 story look and feel with the dormers on the front of the house while popping up the back with a new shed dormer to make it a full 2-story on the back half.

No one showed up at 2, no one showed up at 3. I called him...Oh they would be out with in the hour. He said he would send 6 guys and would send his best buys. He lied and said his carrier was out and delivered the material....no one was out to deliver the material. Someone showed up at 3:30 and dropped off some of the material...had to go back and get shingles. I texted again that no one showed up....The estimator said they would be there shortly. By 5:30 p.m. I texted and said if they didn't show up by 6:00 p.m., they should come out in the morning. TWO men showed up at 6:15 p.m. I went out and said you should come back tomorrow morning and the guy was so rude and said - CALL Rich......and STORMED OFF. I texted the Estimator that only two men showed up and they stormed off and they were so rude. He returned my text and went into a tirade how rude I was to them!!!!!!!! Said I was irrational. I do not want my roof being nailed on at 6:30 at night. I would REALLY HESITATE TO USE THIS COMPANY - I feel lied to and deceived.
Description of Work: roof needed fixing. Estimator came out in a timely manner Tuesday 8/16 and got back to me two days later with an estimate which I thought was high. When he was here I asked when the work could be done. He said ".....oh Thursday or Friday. It rained on Friday and Saturday this week. On Sunday night I e-mailed and said when would his guys be out. He e-mailed back and said his guys would be out between 2-3 on Monday.

Rep came out after being provided with incorrect address, indicated it was too hot and the roof was too steep. Also indicated the 3 story height in the back was too much and that another crew had to come out for inspection. Was told I would receive either a phone call or email to reschedule and received neither.

Northrup did a fantastic job on the whole remodel. Ron Burgess, our project manager, was a terrific communicator and had the vision of what our bathroom could be; he helped tremendously with design ideas. He managed all phases of the project, staying on top of communications with many various subcontractors, all of whom were excellent. Subs were courteous, respectful, and cleaned up after themselves. Northrup followed up after each sub was done, checking to see that work was done right. Any small oversight was immediately corrected. We are amazed at how beautiful and functional the bathroom is and couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome. We wholeheartedly recommend Northrup Inc. for your next project.
Description of Work: Our main 2nd floor bathroom needed to be gutted and completely redone. The sub-floor was rotten and needed to be replaced and leveled. We also took the opportunity to make several upgrades, adding a fan, recessed lighting (in addition to sconces), and replacing the radiator with a small toe-kick water heater. We tiled the shower area and also tiled a wainscot around the entire bathroom, and replaced the vanity, mirror, window and tub. New faucet fixtures and shower/tub fixtures were installed, as well as a towel rack, and towel hooks. Insulation was added to the outside wall before drywall was installed.

Like most people embarking on a home improvement or remodel project, we had done extensive research online about what we wanted from our new kitchen; looks, function, and an enduring design. There are so many talented people out there that do kitchen remodeling, choosing one firm to turn your dream into reality can be overwhelming. After researching the Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List and Houzz; we knew we could narrow the field considerably. Having been a Realtor and sold luxury real estate in Seattle, Palm Springs and San Diego, I knew the value in hiring a talented construction firm before making a single purchase. I have seen too many horrible remodels, or ones that came close but miss the mark. I have also experienced enough stellar designs, ones that make you fall in love with the home, and kitchens and baths that stand out, but still speak to and respect the character of the house they “live” in. All of these homes have two things in common, great design and a great construction firm. Northrup Remodeling is just such a firm. Our decision to hire Northrup Remodeling to build our new kitchen put us on the right path for a successful project. We interviewed several construction firms, but Northrup’s experience, knowledge, and ability to translate our ideas into real life made them the clear choice. Mark the owner, and Bob our project manager, listened, took notes, and explained their process. They are skilled communicators, bring considerable experience, and a knack for managing details to their work. Our kitchen project had several challenges and they masterfully crafted lasting solutions to fit the character of our 1924 home. Our kitchen is now magazine cover beautiful, but above all else is now a pleasure to cook in. We unequivocally recommend Northrup Remodeling for a kitchen, bath or any construction project. Overall it went great. The our project manager, Ron, was extremely responsive to questions and concerns. They came in right at the estimate and the time to completion was close to what was promised (some unforeseen delays occurred, but believe they finished within a week of what was promised). We had an issue where our recently cleaned ductwork was getting lots of construction debris into it, but they took care of that by knocking off the price of another duct cleaning from the total which was appreciated.

The representative worked with me so that I understood the various details and options which constituted a complete job. I had many questions and this took quite a bit of time. Nevertheless the representative was patient and very helpful throughout the bid process and through completion of the work. I decided to do more than a simple replacement and determined to add a layer of decking over the old roof boards before installing the new ice shield, felt, shingles and venting. The materials were all of high quality. The crew got the job done in less than two full days and worked efficiently through every available hour. The unique details that I required were all properly addressed by this company. And, their price was better than the other companies bidding on this job. I plan to talk to this company first for other work that we need to do on our house. I hope to use them again and would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

The project went very well! The bid and contracting phase was handled professionally and quickly, and I felt like a good balance was struck between being sensitive to our budget constraints while at the same time making sure we were setting ourselves up for a realistic plan that would have satisfying results. We began the project on time and kept basically on schedule the whole time. Each work team was respectful and professional, and all the work was high quality. When any part of the project was giving them trouble (for example, cracks that reappeared in the newly mudded drywall due to slightly uneven old framing) they were very persistant in taking care of it and did not make me feel like I was bothering them for asking that they come back to resolve an issue. Mark Kesling was our project lead, and he was fantastic to work with. He was extremely responsible and responsive with his communications, always keeping me in the loop and never going very long between updates. He was very friendly, considerate (sneaking in quietly when he knew our toddler was napping), approachable and willing to listen. He was also very hard-working and willing to do what it took to keep the project moving. I had concerns about making sure some aspects of the project would meet with approval by city inspectors, and he handled all of that without any trouble - I had nothing to worry about. I also came into the project with some specific ideas and he welcomed my questions and preferences. He was able to provide solid guidance without overreaching (in other words, he didn't offer his personal options on matters of personal preference). And he was very understanding when I changed my mind about something or asked for additional work to be done. I think he is extremely skilled and well-suited to his work, and I would definitely recommend him, as well as the company overall.
Description of Work: Attic Remodel - it was already "finished" but with poor, out of date craftsmanship, and in need of several upgrades. Northrup did most of our demolition of the old walls and old insulation, then proceeded with some new framing (we kept a lot of existing framing), putting in all new electrical, all new insulation (closed-cell spray foam), new drywall (ready to paint), new trim, and some other carpentry (small doors for storage spaces, new window woodwork).

Northrup was awesome. They came out and estimated the replacement of my roof, did the work and it's been great ever since. The work crews were prompt, professional and friendly. They were done in the time estimated and there were no surprises on the final bill. Really LOVED working with Northrup. THEN, recently I called them for some upgrade estimates for my kitchen and baths and instead of just taking my money... the work was so minimal they gave me recommendations for ways to do it myself saving me money. He also gave me recommendations for who I could call to get the work done. I could not be more pleased with Northrup and the folks working there. :)

Very prompt and professional response, good explanations of everything. Best price of three bids. Work was completed very quickly while we were out of town, neighbor oversaw the work. Worked with Richard. Good cleanup, although we did find some nails that probably should have been picked up with a more thorough magnet sweep. Good coordination with our contractor that re-built our chimney at the same time (Mohler Chimney). Would definitely recommend Northrup to anyone.

The work was done on time and within the estimate quoted. We had two bedrooms were you had to walk through one room to get to the other room and wanted that changed. It involved creating a new opening and sealing up the old one. They explained what could happen when they opened up the new opening and possible additional costs (such as moving electrical or vents.) There was no additional work needed on the construction and the work was completed when they said it would be. We would hire them again.
