This business is a class act from the minute you enter their shop. My cleaner's brushes quit spinning when they touched the carpet. When I came into a the shop on a Sunday afternoon they were very busy and yet apologized to me for not being able to start examining and or repairing it immediately. I left it and received a call promptly Monday morning, explaining in detail what needed to be done and what it would cost. The entire brush assembly had to be replaced but I was told my brushes would go a while longer. I know they were trying to save me money at every turn. When I picked it up I was shown the damaged piece and received a detailed explanation of how he tried but was unable to repair the faulty unit. There was never an effort to encourage me to purchase new. I was grateful because as I told him and he agreed, these older models were built to last.

I initally contacted Jeff at Johnston's approximately a year prior to the latest appointment. He was the only provider willing to provide an in-home service call for my central vacuum unit which was becoming frequently clogged. After a thorough cleaning,and inspection of all internal outlets, he discussed the most appropriate way to keep the unit functioning (i.e. cleaning cloths) and mailed me the aforementioned cloths after our visit. (He estimated the cost for the product and shipping, which I included in the payment). This saved me yet another trip to a local vacuum store.

.My vacuum had lost a lot of suction and the switch on the handle was not working. Jeff worked in the garage and cleaned the main unit. There was a lot of debris caught in the lines in the garage. He vacuumed and cleaned out each one. He serviced each port in the house, upstairs and down. He vacuumed and blew out each as needed. The switch on the handle was not working for the bare floor feature. He repaired the switch and replaced a worn belt. He also ran a cleaning cloth thru each port and our vacuum hose. I would recommend Johnstons Sales and Service for anyone with a central vacuum. I'm glad I found them on Angies List!!

I needed a new vacuum and wanted to patronize a local, small business. Johnston's has an excellent reputation in the neighborhood. I described what I currently use as well as what I like and don't like in a vacuum. Darrin recommended the Riccar brand and was confident I would be very happy with the most basic model. He pointed out the great features, as well as the additional features of the others with more bells and whistles. He was right! I couldn't be happier with the vacuum I purchased. It's an upright that does a very good job, plus the extendable hose works very well in small spaces. I appreciate his honesty and care for me as a customer, not wanting to oversell beyond my needs and budget.

Very profession and prompt. With required service. Good to find a service so convenient to me that services all brands of sewing machines and vacuums.

Great. After buying the Consumer Reports "Best Recommended" vacuum three times in a row and having it break within 1-2 years each time, we had to do something different this time. We found Johnston's on Angie's List and decided to try it. The sales rep gave us an hour of his time, explained three different brands to us, asked us a ton of questions about what we needed a vacuum to do and sold us a Lindhaus. We've had it for two months and we love it. It vacuums better than any vacuum we've had and he was right the bag takes a long time to fill. With a dog, two kids and a house full of guests, it's still not full.

They were friendly, kind, helpful and knowledgeable. My aunt who lives in another state has been looking for a new foot pedal. I asked if they carried them. All I needed to do was to call my aunt, get the model # and they made one right then and there!!. Not only that , but they put it in a box for shipping. The reason I went in the first place was my machine needed a tune up. The pressure foot was stuck and it only wanted to zigzag. Haven't used it yet but I am sure it will be back to normal. I also used $10 off coupon which was an added bonus. They also gave some wonderful advice on vacuums.

I have a very old heavy duty Necchi machine. It is so old that I had trouble finding anyone who would even have parts if needed. I also had the problem that the machine is attached to a cabinet and I am not strong enough to carry it. Johnston's doesn't ordinarily do pick up and delivery but because I had no options they volunteered to do so for me. The machine runs perfectly now and I couldn't believe that they did all of this for so little money! Jeff also happens to be a REALLY nice guy. You can bet that I am passing on the good word about this company to anyone who will listen.

Had a Dyson. Loved it! It started to act up. Brought the machine here and, of course, it would not act up. They took it apart and found nothing wrong. They sent the machine home with no charge to me! Gave the advice to come back if it acted up again. It worked for a week and then acted up again. The machine went back and, of course, it would not act up. They offered to keep the machine and periodically test it. After trying for a week, it acted up! They were able to determine it was one of two problems. One fix would cost $200, the other was $400. And, there was no 100% guarentee either alone would repair the machine. They gave me time to decide what I wanted to do. I opted to not have the machine repaired. I asked for a recommendation on a replacement and was given several options to investigate. I received such good customer service and patience with my problem machine that I chose to purchase my new vacuum from them. Customer service like I received from the guys at Johnston's is rare in thosisay and age. I could not be more pleased and wish all my friends needed vacuums because these guys deserve everyone's business.

I called to get directions to the shop, and they took the time to give detailed directions since I wasn't completely familiar with the area. I dropped off my machine before noon, and they called back THAT SAME EVENING informing me that the machine was completed. AWESOME!! I am very impressed with Johnston's Sales and Repair! Very personable, and very fair prices. I will definitely use their service again! Excellent provider all around! They are dog friendly! Feel free to bring your dog with you - as the sign informs you as you enter the store. HAPPY CUSTOMER!

I was very happy with the service and the result. I was not sure it would be worth driving all the way from Andover to Richfield to get my serger fixed but it was. I had read Angies List reviews and decided to make the trek. I brought my serger in on Friday expecting at least a few days turn around and happily received a call later that afternoon that my serger was done and ready to be picked up. The gentleman who fixes sergers said he was not going to be in again until Thursday so he took a look at it right away and was able to fix and clean it quickly. Talk about customer service! All the employees that I talked with were very nice and helpful and I can't say enough about the consideration I was shone in getting my serger fixed so promptly. I will definitely be back and would gladly recommend JOHNSTON'S SALES & SERVICE to anyone needing a serger fixed.

Jeff arrived at our house & within 10 minutes, determined everything that was wrong with our central vac system. He offered us all the options along with his professional recommendation. In addition to being professional, it was obvious that he was very passionate & knowledgable about his work. We couldn't recommend a service more.

I recently bought an antique treadle sewing machine off Craig's List, with no previous experience with these machines. It needed a new leather belt. I thought I'd probably have to order one online, but figured I'd call Johnston's just in case they might have them. They had 'em! I went in prepared to buy two belts, in case I goofed up cutting the first one. (The leather belts for treadle machines have to be cut to fit.) The man who helped me talked me out of buying two. Told me I should only buy one, because if I cut it a little too short the first time, I could always soak the leather in water overnight to loosen it up, then try again. So I bought my one belt. I was given detailed instructions about installing it, including instructions to soak the leather belt in water overnight to make it more flexible, install it damp, and it would tighten up slightly as it dried. I haven't seen this tip in any of the online forums that deal with restoring treadle machines, so I really appreciated knowing this. They were also able to give me suggestions about how to fix the automatic lift pulley mechanism of the cabinet, sight unseen. I appreciated their help with such an obscure machine. If I ever have trouble with my electric sewing machine, I would bring it to them in a heartbeat. As for my treadle machine, the men in the shop assured me she will still be sewing strong long after we are gone.

They were fabulous. They were honest and helped us figure out what to do. Everything about them was good.

I expected to be called in advance of the repair to have an explanation of everything to be serviced, repaired, or replaced. The repairs were very good. Vacuum works a lot better now.

I got my vacuum worked on and they were able to take care of everything. They even loaned me a vacuume to use while they were working on mine. They were punctual and did really good work. They also explained to me what they were doing.

I dropped off my sewing machine in the morning. Jeff found the problem (feed dog was on Darn setting, thus material would not advance, and bobbin thread tangled up in a mess underneath). He oiled and cleaned the machine, and it was ready the same day. I have not had a chance to try it yet, but he tried it and I am confident it works now. (If for some reason it doesn't when I try it, I will revise this review - I wanted to get the review posted). I used a "$10.00 off" Angie's List coupon. Very satisfied with the company, and I would definitely recommend them.

Several years ago, as I was removing my machine from the closet, something heavy fell on it and knocked one of the parts responsible for a smooth feed. Over time, I had taken it in for inspection and cleaning twice since the accident but no one was able to recognize what I presumed the problem might be. When I brought the machine in to Johnson & Johnson, they seemed to recognize the issue; they were eager to work on the machine, courteous and personable. I brought it in on a Friday and the machine was ready by Monday morning. I am very satisfied with this company.

We purchased a new vacuum cleaner at the owners suggestion and have been very please with it!!

The machine works great now. I am giving to my daughter as her first machine. Jeff said this machine is a tank, so I have no qualms about letting her use it and that it will work great for her. Good service. Nice guys and very helpful.

We bought a Miele vacuum cleaner at a Warner's Stellian warehouse sale a couple of years ago...this beast was supposed to be the top of the line. Low and behold, it broke in it's second year of use. We contacted Warner's...they told us there was nothing they could do. We could bring it in but needed to pay $100 just for them to look at it (that wasn't going to happen!). I did a little Angie's List search and came across Johnson's off Penn Ave in Richfield. Brought the vacuum in...the Johnsons told us it was under warranty (which Warners' did NOT!)...did a little tweaking. It seemed to work but ran into the same problem a couple of days later...Johnson's said bring it back...they replaced the hose which they said was a design defect on the original Miele (thanks Warners' for not telling us about that when we bought the thing!). The vacuum works great...and if we ever need another repair we know where we're going to go...Johnson's on Penn!

Great experience. This shop is owned and operated by brothers who are really interested in offering a quality product and backing it up.I had only owned cheap plastic big box store vacuums before and was ready to get something quality that wasn't going to break. I visited there on two occassions with lots of questions and left a satisfied customer. The guys took time to provide detailed answers to all of my questions and even asked me a few to make sure that they could offer me the product I really needed. They didn't try to upsell me and pointed out the pros and cons for all the types and models I looked at. I left with a quality made in USA piece of equipment and a good feeling.

The service was great. I took it in close to closing time and got a call the next morning that it was ready to be picked up. It was due for a tune-up, anyway, so worked out just fine. I was happy that there wasn't anything actually broken. He asked if I was working on any Christmas projects, as given the time of year, and that they try to service those machines first. Very accommodating, thoughtful, and friendly.
