Great, very informative throughout the process, and open to money-saving options and suggestions as inevitable problems arose. The step replacement went great, and was completed late summer 2014.
More recently, I called Andy for an estimate on a new home purchase with some serious issues surrounding an underground garage and a backyard retaining wall. He was willing to come out very quickly to meet my offer deadline, and spent 30+ minutes on the property with me outlining potential solutions and estimated costs. You can be sure I'll be calling him once we settle into the house and get ready to do the actual work.

Summer 2014:
Although this recommendation is about Peitig Concrete, it applies; to three companies that did excellent work for us but, especially for each other in coordinating competing projects: Andy Pietig Concrete, Plehal Blacktop and Rain-Man Irrigation.
The job was very complex, especially for Peitig Concrete:  to install an asphalt driveway with paver-borders that both needed to be done ?before each other because ? there needed to be a cut or ?Gap? in the new asphalt for a paver-sidewalk and separator between the replaced driveway and a new asphalt section called a ?Patio?!
We are on a circle, which makes driveway edges, curves or bends meet other sections at odd angles that must both do the job and look good like they were 'done on purpose'.
I?d planned to personally instal 1000 pavers but then, I was struck ill and limited to ?doing nothing? for about 3 weeks and had to call Andy Pietig Concrete, that had done excellent concrete and paver work for us about 2 years ago, installing a paver patio + concrete pad.
Andy (who was extremely busy at the time) worked us into his schedule and coordinated with Plehal Blacktop regarding the interlocking sequence for installing pavers and blacktop and then later cutting a ?paver? gap to separate a new asphalt driveway extension. Plehall did the excavation and Class V fill, which Andy?s guys then shaved to 'paver-height' for sand-fill plus snap-edge on inner and outer faces.
They VERY CAREFULLY LAID CORNERS CUT EXACTLY AS PLANNED. We have received numerous  compliments from neighbors and even passersby, stopping on our circle to ask who?d done the work.  I?ll take credit for designing the layout and paver-patterns but not for the excellent execution by Pietig and Plehal.
Plehal's asphalt work was PERFECTLY ROLLED to meet the paver-heights -- and pitched for good drainage in three directions.
Andy?s team was expert at matching block patterns around bends and corners and at meeting points with the garage-sidewalk and what we called the ?Gap?, a 15? ?sidewalk? separating a new extension from the replaced driveway.
Without our mention, they replaced a handful of damaged or imperfectly cut blocks, even returning more than once to clean up details that only they had noticed.
Special mention goes to Andrew, Andy?s Team Leader, an extremely conscientious expert, whose detail work, experience and artistic eye showed everywhere. He returned more that once to finish or touch up details.
Repeatedly dodging weather, Andy was able to coordinate the next steps with Plehal.
So, in a difficult period, when we really needed help, to get a long-planned job finally done, both Peitig and Plehal were extremely patient with our plans and delays and Pietig stepped up politely and frequently to get everything accomplished.
Merged into all of this was a previously planned IRRIGATION PROJECT that impacted every edge and required burying PVC pipe deep under the fill base, to carry irrigation tube, phone and cable lines. Again, the layout was mine and their execution was better.
Irrigation work was accomplished by Luke, Shane, et.al. from Mr. Rain Irrigation. They worked smoothly around the congested ?work area? and came back several times, to adjust sprinkler locations and head-heights after the pavers and sod were installed. Again, they were at least as responsive, thorough and cooperative as Plehal and Pietig and their quite varied layout and design had to solve a dozen, problematic, narrow, triangular or sloping-wedge areas.
We have long considered, planned and designed last year?s work and, to finally get this all done, with this high level of service and finished quality, we could not have chosen three companies better equipped, skilled and managed!

This company has great, professional employees. They took exceptional care in the leveling and shaping of the driveway to make it even out perfectly with the garage and alley. The men were nice, polite, hard workers. I had no idea what skill was required to do paver driveway. They went down 12 inches to pack the surface. I have a long, narrow driveway and it took 3 days to complete but its perfect. From my initial meeting with Scott to the bucket of granite sand they left for me to fill in when necessary, I could not be happier with the work done.

Andy came out and gave us quotes on stamped concrete and pavers. He thoroughly discussed the pros, cons, and pricing of both options. He was very forward and promt with the quote. The workers were respectful, timely, and professional. It looks amazing, the workers were great, and I would use A.Pietig again! It is such a difference than the frustrations with the builder that is doing out remodel on the home. It was a truly enjoyable experience!

Since this work was done, we had to fire our contractor that was working on our home. Andy stepped in and has nearly completed the work, and has recommended great companies for us to use to help get our home done. He fixed the original builders work, and we are very happy.

Very friendly from quote to finish. Not cheapest, not most expensive. They had a fabulous crew that worked their butts off, and got the job done beautifully! People walking by are always stopping to look and admire. We cannot say enough about the company, crew, work ethics, and the job done! Scott is the bomb! Simply gorgeous driveway!!!

Everything went perfectly from start to finish!!! I would definitely hire him and his crew again. They were all very hard workers and knowledgeable in their area. They are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. As I said, I had hired them to do work on my father's property - - he was paying. I, unfortunately, coudn't afford Andy and had to go with another contractor for work on my own property. Boy was I sorry. Again, you get what you pay for. I now have cracks in my fairly new concrete sidewalk and driveway. The stamped concrete work they did for me has lost it's shine. That crew was a comedy of errors. Never again. Always go with the best, even if you have to pay more. You'll be happier in the long run - - believe me. That contractor even yelled at me and threatened to sue me for complaining about his work. I had hired him through Service Magic (never again).

They completed the job on time and were very reasonable in their price. Andy gave me several different pavers to choose from in my price range and sent me to the supplier to pick out the color and style I wanted. When there was an initial drainage problem with the planter, he quickly sent out a team to fix the problem at no extra charge. Overall, I am very pleased with my new back yard.

Pietig Construction is a no-nonsense, well-run operation. All proposed projects are personally-planned and initiated by Andy Pietig, a 2nd generation concrete and brick-paving expert. What I like about Andy Pietig is that he's not a salesman. He's a matter-of-fact kind of guy that tells you how much he charges and what he can do for you. He is so unlike those contractors that send out salesmen that finagle your expectations for your project then make up all kinds of fudge-factors, and then ultimately give you an inflated bill after slapping something together on your house, and leaving so you'll never see them again and ndash; even when you want them back to fix up any messes that magically appear after they're long gone. Andy Pietig doesn't work like that. I first hired Pietig on a project three years ago. I did my due diligence by interviewing several contractors before deciding on Pietig. I didn't choose Pietig because he was the cheapest. Of the five I interviewed, his price was higher than the average cost of all of them. But I also didn't higher the highest price contractor because I asked him for a guarantee on the premium work he was going to do for me and he told me and ldquo;nobody guarantees concrete work.and rdquo; He told me I wouldn't find anyone in the concrete and brick business that make guarantees; it's just not done, he told me. And I checked with 3 of the other 5 that I interviewed and they all said no one guarantees concrete work. Only one said he guarantees his work, and that was Pietig, and far as I know, he's the only one that does. And after Pietig did my work and I did find some minor little issues, he came back out and fixed themand mdash;guaranteed. Also I didn't take the low-end bidders three years ago because I went out and looked at the concrete steps and sidewalks from their reference lists, and they all seemed to have either hairline cracks that were starting to show or they just didn't look right. With Pietig's references, you could tell they were really well-thought out, crafted projects. I felt so confident about the way Pietig does business that with the most recent project I had him do I didn't even find other bidders. And true to form, his work was superior. Another thing I like about Pietig is that he is a problem-solver. Having an older house (built 1952), I'm sure there are many things about my house and the property that is not to code before a project is even started. Pietig came out, looked over my plans and told me how my plans have to change in order to make it work best. Ultimately, he and his staff are so well-versed in the complexities of concrete, brick and pavers, they will craft innovative solutions to any sticky problem. They had to do that for the retaining wall and steps they recently put in for me. We had agreed on one thing, but as the project progressed, they just made one slight change and ndash; instead of capping part of a concrete shelve with concrete next to the house they used brick instead. This really enhanced the look of that area. Pietig works with you and gives you some alternatives that make sense. The bottom line, I wouldn't hire anyone else to do brick and concrete work for me.
