Landmark Fence

I got three bids and it was cheaper than one and comparable to the other. They gave me an Angie's List discount. I was very happy with their work. They were here when they said they would be and also hauled the old fence away.

The fence turned out great! The installers were professional and punctual. The sales person was extremely helpful and thorough. My only complaint was with the office staff and scheduling. I had to call them to get a date for the install after waiting several weeks with no contact. They didn't want to give me a specific dates, just a range and then expect me to arrange my life around their schedule at the last minute. I made my needs for specific dates clear and they tried to accommodate them, but didn't give a firm commitment. Ended up delaying the install due to weather.

They did a good job, were consumer friendly. I was very satisfied.

Removed old fence. Put up 107 feet of a beautiful wooden picket fence that surpassed our expectations.

We Called Landmark and talked with Carl, who came out. He had a key suggestion about the layout of the fence I hadn't thought of. Looking at it now, thank goodness he did! We wanted to see the fence hands-on before agreeing to the work, so later in the week we went to their shop in Mendota. While they didn't have an exact example of the design we decided on, they had some close enough for our comfort. Their bid was good; it was about $1000 less than the next offer, and we had four other bids. So we signed up, and they told us about 3-4 weeks, and that was accurate, even with our rainy fall. The workmen came out and got the job done in a day. I have to say, they were really pleasant guys. Anyway, now we have our fence and we love it! It's just what we looking for. In summary, we'd recommend Landmark highly.

The fence is OK, they were slow to respond to what I thought was some bad workmanship. I ended up taking care of it myself.

I really felt comfortable with the salesman who spent a good amount of time explaining the project and how it would be handled. He was very thorough. We had a few communication glitches along the way but when I expressed these to the owner of the company she was very apologetic and we resolved all problems. In the end I got a great looking fence for a reasonable price. I think Landmark does quality work.

From the beginning to the end of this project I really enjoyed working with Landmark Fence. Their estimate was almost exactly the same of another company, and the work was completed within this estimate. The fence is beautiful. The only thing negative I would say is that their charge for a gate return spring was a little high, ($50), when the local hardware store sells the exact same for under $10. Overall though I feel like I received excellent craftsmanship and service.

We had reason to feel good about the company after we started construction. My husband and I did not like the rough sawn look of the western red cedar once we saw it going up. To us, it was not what we expected, as we had previously had a smooth finish red wood. We called a temporary halt to the process (the fence boards were in the early stages of going up...thank goodness.) We spoke to the owners about any other lumber options and immediately drove over to the company to see about using the red cedar deck lumber. It was more like what we wanted. It had a stronger and smoother look. We think we could have avoided the mix-up if we had been more informed earlier...doing more questioning about what # 1 grade meant ( the deck wood is thicker and a higher grade, I think) and going to see what it looked like. But, because we were not selecting a design like the brochure and the majority of the fences built by the company, we passed on that. Fortunately, it all turned out in the end.

Landmark responded to our estimate request quickly. The estimator listened to our desires and concerns and made good recommendations. They were able to come out and do the installation about a week later and the installation took about a week as they waited for posts to set. The crew cleaned up well daily. They offered to leave the scraps which proved nice. I was able to make a shoe rack and burned the rest in our outdoor fireplace. The fence looks great. I stained it after the winter using the stain they recommended and it really looks nice. Many neighbors and friends have stopped to say they admire it.

Horrible attention to detail. At least 4 posts are only 1.5 feet deep instead of 3 ft as stated in their literature. Built back fence at a slight angle instead of up against driveway as I had asked. Cement for posts is poorly finished, and some cement is finished above grade and others below grade - NOT as stated in their literature. Posts are unevenly spaced on privacy fence, causing an unattractive splice (salesman had the landscaper locate the posts and didn't check for accuracy). Built back fence higher than specified (48"), and didn't match the lines on the side fence. Dan Caruso discounted the job 10% after a 1 week cool down after heated words. I had intended to go to small claims, and Dan was going to counter with a lien. I decided that it wasn't worth the hassle and I just wanted them to go away. The fence is OK overall, but the attention to detail was lousy. And, I'm going to have to have someone clean up the cement around the post they put in my sidewalk.

It went well. The representative who arrived to provide us the estimate was punctual, professional, an expert, answering all of our questions. In fact, after that meeting, we decided to go with Landmark, rather than to secure another estimate. The workers arrived a few weeks later (about the time promised) and the work was done efficiently and well. My only concern is that we have a couple of grouchy neighbors and when a worker accidentally removed old hardware from the neighbor's gate and dispose of it, the neighbors browbeat the fence installers into installing one of OUR locking mechanisms onto their old remaining gate. We had to wait over the weekend for someone to install hardware onto our new gate! And one of the posts didn't set right, so workers had to come back to do it again. Still and all, a good experience.

They were on time and professional for the estimate appointment. It took a little longer than expected to get our fence installed, but they were extremely good about staying in contact and promptly returned my phone calls if they weren't available. On the day that they installed the posts, our neighbor changed his mind about where he wanted the fence to end. The poor workers couldn't do anything but stand there as we figured things out. They were incredibly nice about the situation, even after they ended up having to fill two holes they already dug and dig two new ones. We apologized, and they made us feel like it wasn't a big deal. We had to add onto the fencing, and they were willing to put in the posts where they weren't previously planned. The office was great about getting us an updated quote. Again, it took a day or two longer to get the fence installed after the posts were in, but they communicated with us the entire time. I definitely recommend them.

I called 3 companies for estimates, and all of them came to my home within a few days of one another. Estimates were very similar. The salesman, Dan, was responsive and helpful. He took the extra step of coming out on a Sunday with his metal detector to try to help me find my property line stakes. They started the work 3.5 weeks after I signed the contract, which was a little long, but OK. I was home to confirm the post locations, and away on business when the rest of the fence was built. I came home and was thrilled overall with the fence. There were a few issues: a gap at the edge of the gate, a cracked board, and a missing post cap. I had to call 3 times in a space of just under 2 weeks before they responded by scheduling a time to do the fixes. They never did replace the cap, but later I found what I think was the original laying on the other side of my fence so I nailed it on. I have such a nice, private "sanctuary" now, thanks to my beautiful fence. Thanks!

Jeff (estimator) was very responsive. Whenever we had a question, he would either give us a call or stop by in person to check in. He was always very courteous and Landmark's work speaks for itself. We ended up having our fence built by a family member, but would highly recommend Landmark Fence.

I CANCELED THE MEETING AND DROVE HOME RIGHT AWAY. I ASKED THEM WHAT I COULD DO TO HELP. I FURNISHED THEM A HOSE AND THEY SAID THAT THEY DID NOT NEED ANYTHING ELSE SO I WENT BACK TO WORK. WHEN I GOT HOME THAT NIGHT, I FOUND THAT THEY HAD POURED THE CONCRETE WASTE WATER ACROSS MY BACKYARD WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY KILLED SOME OF THE GRASS. THEY HAD TAKEN THE EXCESS DIRT FROM THE POST HOLES, WHICH WAS VERY SANDY AND GRAVELY, AND THEY SPREAD IT OVER MY GARDEN TOP SOIL. THEY HAVE SINCE PROMISED TO COME OUT TWICE TO BUILD THE FENCE ONTO THE FENCE POSTS AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT SHOWN UP OR CALLED TO SAY THAT THEY WERE NOT COMING OUT. I PUT A TERMINATION DATE ON THE CONTRACT AND THE DATE HAS ALREADY PASSED.

The main problem that we had with this company was their lack of communication to us. We had to initiate almost all calls. They were supposed to call us to confirm an installation date but they never did so we had to call to find out when they could do the job. They did changes in the construction of the fence without communicating with us these changes.

They did a good job! It looks nice!

John and Dave did a wonderful job. They were professional, detailed and meticulous in their work. They took down a terrible, old, uneven fence that was in danger of falling over. In its place they put up a beautiful, LEVEL, sturdy cedar fence. Their experience has made my new fence even better than the sale representative and I imagined. They took a loose sketch and talked to me about what I wanted, how I was going to use the new fenced enclosure and made some great suggestion, modifications and the end result is a VERY happy customer with a beautiful new fence. I have only good things to say about John, Dave and Landmark Fence. They were not the cheapest quote I got but they inspired the most confidence when estimating my fence and working with me as I added things here and there. I definitely got an excellent product for my money. The quality of the wood and the skills of the installers are A+ in my book.

It was a great experience. The sales rep (Carl) came out three times, and one of his visits was on a Sunday at my request. Carl helped me select the fence style. He very forthrightly told me that, with my lawn's changing elevations, I wouldn't be happy with the fence that I had chosen, and he recommended another style, which actually was much less expensive than the one I had initially selected. He also told me which trees to remove, and recommended a very reasonable tree removal service, who did a great job too. The installation took place as scheduled. It was quick and painless. The persons who did the installation responded to concerns that I had when the fence was going up (e.g., the width of one of the gates), and changed things on the fly. Landmark also responded very quickly to a few relatively minor issues that I had with the finished fence, and resolved them immediately. This was one of the best experiences with home improvements that I have ever had.

Rep was right on time and gave detailed information and estimate. Because it was lightly raining out, he came inside to talk to me more and had to deal with 2 young toddlers and a loud puppy while trying to talk. Rep was very kind and patient with the situation. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to go through a selling spiel that I felt like was being done. Rep was here for an hour going through what I considered to be too many details to what I needed to hear at the time. Others I had come to do estimates earlier in the day were all done within 20 minutes tops. I ended up choosing a different company that offered a lesser dollar amount and is run by a friend of a friend.

Jim Haas was very professional and helpful. He did a sketch of the fence, had great suggestions, listened to what I said, and figured out how to simply solve the little things like how to butt up against the garage, tie in with other fence, go around obstruction and set back the gate opening; he was terrific. He was always on time and did what he said; the work crews were the same and the quality was top notch. The corporate office was very responsive to my questions and requests. They called me a couple times to be sure everything was going the way I wanted it. I was hoping for a better price, but they were right in the ballpark with the other major fence companies in this area. If you want a good price, great job and service with no hassles - hire them! This may sound like a phony report but it's not. It's one of the best contractor experiences I've had. My fence looks similar to the pictures attached which I got off their web site.

The estimate was higher than another company.

The entire experience was outstanding. The estimator (Carl) was very accommodating and helpful. The installers showed up right on time, did a great job, and cleaned up well, too. I'd use them again, and I'd recommend Landmark without hesitation.

Jim, the salesperson, came out to take a look at our property and show us different fence samples and explain the differences between them. He was cordial, professional, punctual, and knowledgable. They gave us a courtesy call one week before they came to do the work. The men who came to take away our old fence and install the new one were also courteous, punctual, and professional. We were very happy with our final product. I chose Landmark Fence from Angie's List and I am so glad I used the list for this job.
