Major ethical and legal concerns.   We chose them based on all the positive ratings, so was shocked when we learned that there installation was not going to meet code.  We asked about how they were going to power the openers (as in old garage homes there are no ceiling outlets).   They said they were going to use a long extension code.  We thought that was odd and talked to the city and found that is against code.  Rob - the salesman at Great Garage Door suggested he has an extension cord for his own garage opener at home and that no one would check.  Red flag!

Any company that suggests an illegal installation to me crosses the ethical line of what they would put in that could cause safety issues or fines.

They were very courteous, friendly and responsive - but any business that crosses that legal line is too hard for me to trust or give business to.  Just not worth it.

From the moment they answered my phone call to fixing the problem, they were very professional and polite.   Seven years ago,
they installed the garage door opener.    I was still in their system; however, I have not been plagued by advertisements (greatly appreciate that).  Very polite and professional customer service.  They were able to come out the day I called.  I explained the problem, they gave me a rough estimate and good guess of what the problem could be.  They gave me a two hour window (not a problem).  A service man arrived, very sorry, I forgot his name.  He was polite, professional, and quick.  He quickly assessed the problem, explained to me what the problem was, and was able to quickly fix it.  He also noticed a light bulb was burnt out; at no extra charge, I provide the light bulb, he replaced it.  It was 50.00 less than originally thought, because the gears were not the problem.

Excellent customer service.  Any problems were addressed immediately.  Would definitely use Great Garage Door Co. again.  I happened to call the Burnsville number of 952-895-7300 and worked with Mike Adkins.

This was on a Sunday  our cars were trapped, we sent email on Sunday night called right away Monday morning and got someone out as soon as they could.
It turned out to be a simple fix and while he was here he took it upon himself to do some maintenance all of this was done in below zero weather, we were very impressed

Our garage door would go all the way down, then would reverse itself. We called at 9 AM..Tim was here by 10:30. The repair was finished in less than 30min. He explained what the problem had been and how he fixed it. We had thought we needed a
new opener. We are very pleased with this company. We purchased our garage door from them 15 years ago and have been very happy with that as well

excellent,
new door much nicer than original and better insulated, garage door opener is mounted to the ceiling under a bedroom, old one was so noisy, this one you can barely hear. Even the dog thinks its quieter because she doesn't start barking because she no longer can tell when the door opens

I called because I noticed the garage door sticks a bit to the ground when it gets really cold like below zero. It opens but I hear a noise as if it was a little frozen. Also, I saw the rubber seal looked like it need to be replaced.
The service person advised me while the retainer and rubber seal should be replaced not to do so until spring. That's because I've got water near the garage door from snow melting off my car (as does the neighbor).  If he replaced it now, he might need to do it again before the winter is over and charge me again (it wouldn't be warrantied).
He also recommended calling a handyman to correct the water issue. I talked to the HOA handyman today who told me the problem is snow melts off my tires and mud flaps. The garage floor not totally level so it forms a small puddle in the corners. He said there's not much can do about it. Other people in the HOA have come to him with this problem. If that's correct, then I'm not sure what to do. He advised me to sweep it out, etc which I can do. In that case, would the rubber seal just need to be replaced yearly but it would not ever be covered by the warranty?
I plan to call them again in the spring to replace the retainer and rubber seal.  I asked how much it would cost and he gave me a ballpark figure around $150. So it isn't a huge repair.
While I wish they could have done the repair today, I do understand the reason.
He then did a garage door opener tune up.

The sales visit was low key with good explanations of alternatives.  We ordered the door special order because of the obscure glass in the windows.  We paid half down because of the special order.  The door arrived ahead of schedule and we were slotted in for installation shortly thereafter.  The installer arrived on schedule, worked efficiently and from all appearances did a good job of fitting and sealing the door. We paid the other half and it was all done. We are happy. No problems so far.

A roller on our single garage door kept falling out.  The door is about 10 years old.  We had used Great Garage Door Co in the past for previous work (a broken spring) and we were satisfied with the work so we called them again for service.  The Maplewood location is less than a half mile from our home.  A 2 hour window was set.  He came within the last 15 minutes of this window right after I left the house.  My son was left in charge to let him in the garage and pay for the service.  I was aware of the $89 service call fee but they never told me they were going to charge a $5 fuel surcharge.  Come on - your half a mile away from my house.  Whats up with a fuel surcharge - your already charging me $89 for a 5 minute job.

Alan came out and provided an estimate for two doors. He did a good job. However, it would have been nice to know the space needed for the install. When the installer showed up he told me I needed to move a bunch of boxes (just moved in). There was a bit of trim missing due to a shortage on the order. After almost three weeks later, the missing trim is still not installed after calling back twice.
Response from Great Garage Door Company
"[member name removed] : You are 100% correct. We did the door installation on 9/16/2013 and did not get back with the piece of trim until 9/27/2013, eleven days later. First off there is no reason we did not have it on our truck to begin with. Second we try to make sure all our warranty work is completed within 5 working days (if it is something that does not effect the operation of the door) and we were way outside that time frame. It was completely our fault and I apologies for the inconvenience. Steve Donohue"
