I liked quality of service performed, but it was very pricey.

We had a really nice hand me down bike for my son and it needed a major overhaul. We consulted with the bike repair folks on what was needed, if it was worth it given the value of the bike (it was). It wasn't cheap, but they told us the bike would be like new when they were done (it was an $800 bike originally) and they were right. Quality parts and service and I know my 11 year old son will get a lot of use out of the bike. My only complaint is that they gave me a date on when it would be done (which was several weeks out) but when that time came and went, no one called me to let me know it was not done. When I called to check in, they hadn't even started yet as they had been so busy with walk-in business. I ended up waiting longer than we should have for the bike when they should have dedicated personnel that work on the bikes that have appointments/deadlines for being fixed. But overall we were happy and the staff is super knowledgeable about bikes and made me feel comfortable that what they were doing was necessary.

They have been excellent. Their prices are extremely reasonable otherwise I wouldn’t have done it. They are extremely receptive and know what they are doing. They are down the street and I have always used them. They do not do things that do not have to be done.

I was impressed with the reviews I read about this place on Angie's List and even though it was about 20 miles from home - and there are many bike shops closer - I decided to give it a try. I have two bikes. One - the gears are all gummed up and cannot shift. The other had a flat tire. I drove over there about 6pm on a weekend night. The place was very busy (I found out later that it was a Christian bike group having an annual gathering.) I walked right into the store (had not called ahead) and went to the back service counter. They were busy, but within ten seconds I was greeted and offered assistance. It was none other than Steve, himself - the owner. He interrupted what he was doing and told me to bring the bikes in. He checked the flat - and discovered the tube was old so he replaced that within ten minutes or so, making sure the wheel was back on straight and things were moving smoothly. (Cost - $13) He then devoted his attention to "ungumming" the gear shifts on my other bike. He tried diligently to do this (I felt almost guilty that I was taking up so much of his time). He wanted to get me back on the road. He said he was pretty busy and currently had a two-week waiting time for repairs to get done. But the gears were not to be ungummed. Steve said that they were about 20 years old and that such a thing happens sometimes. He looked up online (and when he was not successful, he looked in some of his books) to find out how much replacement shifters would cost. He told me and quoted me a price. ($60 including parts and labor) I was amazed at how low the price was. He said he maybe should raise the estimate to $70 because sometimes when they operate on the gears like that, they find more trouble than expected. I was happy with that and appreciated his honesty. At no time did he pressure me to go along with his repair suggestions, nor did he pressure me to buy a new bike. I left my bike there for the two-week repair and took the other bike (with the new tube) home. Steve was very friendly and I highly recommend his business to anyone.
Description of Work: Fixed a flat - which involved removing the wheel from the bike and replacing the tube and putting it back on, making sure things were running smoothly. On a second bike I brought in at the same time, the thumb shifters were all gummed up inside and didn't work. I went there with the expectation that they would have to be replaced.

We just rolled the bike in to the shop and they were able to address the problem immediately. A little bit of re-alignment, brake adjust, etc.. Service guy rode it around the store. A little more tweaking and we were ready to go. Took maybe 15 mins and was charge $10.00 for the labor. No more squeaks and a happy kid. They were great. I'll definitely be back.
Description of Work: My 11 yr old daughter's bike was making some nasty squeaking noises and was unbearable to listen to. We needed it fixed and I decided to try Tonka Cycle & Ski as they had good reviews, were local and independent.

I called the shop to see if I could make an appointment to have my bicycle tuned up. After asking me a few questions, they told me to just drop in, it probably only required a few adjustments. I dropped by on a Saturday afternoon. They put my bike up on a stand, adjusted the brakes, the gears, adjusted the spokes. I was in and out quickly. No charge. Everyone from the gal on the phone to the young man who adjusted my bike was very helpful. I decided to get a car bike rack while I was there. The young man who helped me was very informative and helped me narrow down the choices for my car style. No pressure.
