Really prompt replies online; easy to set appointment. Came to our home within a few days of initial contact. Arrived on time, super professional. Assessed our situation and provided options and high level price estimate. We will eventually work with them, but later this summer after graduation party is over. Appreciated the honest assessment and options, gave us plenty of good information to work with.

I called them up because I thought there were imperfections in the work that they did so they came out and did it the second time. I am sure they did it in the fall or somewhere around there because I called them and told them that I didn't think the job was very good. As a matter of fact you look at my driveway this year even after they...we didn't have a bad winter this year at all and the stuff that they are laying down has completely flaked off. The patches of areas that don't even look like they were ever treated. I would never use them again. Well, I probably give them a C+ for the work being done but if it is supposed to last at least a year or two, then I would probably give them a D. The price was fine. We talked to them on the phone so probably a B, because we did argue a little bit. Not if the sealing isn't guaranteed for a couple of years. Who wants to put out $119, $120 every year to have this done and you know what they are going to tell you is the first winters of Minnesota, wear and tear on the driveways as they do on roads but yet I remember I had somebody do my driveway years ago when I was working and it was like something that lasted for at least 4 years. I just see it as, it should last longer than a season. I think the gentleman that I talked to originally was quite professional. He disagreed with me when I told him there were imperfections in the driveway but regardless of whether he disagreed with me or not, he came out immediately and redid the driveway. Their work is excellent as far as not getting it all over the garage door or all over the yards, it is isolated to the driveway, it is just that I think it was a weak sealant solution and I think it needs to be able to last a lot longer than a season. That is what I would explain to anybody, it would be up to their choice whether they want to use them or not.

Work was preformed and completed by the scheduled date and in a timely manner. First day-removed existing asphalt and prepped area for the pour. Next day-poured concrete and finished. Steve-(at time of estimate was professional, courteous and took the time to answer all of my questions. I was not home on the first day for the prep, but on the second day I was only able to see the gentleman that finished the project. He was very neat and also professional and courteous. Excellent work done and very happy with the finished product. One small comment-I noticed the next day after the work was completed, the sunken areas in the driveway were a little longer than what the estimated 4' apron covered, leaving small indentations in front of the apron. We probably could have gone with a 5' apron. Over all, I am happy with the work done and would recommend AURORA to anyone with a similar job.
Description of Work: Removed existing asphalt, re-established 4-6" of subgrade with recycled crushed concrete, formed and poured 4500 PSI concrete-(4' x 22' area) with rebar and fibers, brush finished. A sealer was to be applied at this time butt not sure if it was done or if it was necessary to wait for warmer weather in the spring.

They were average. A few days after I did the deal, I had to call them to see what the timing was; it was hard to find out when they were going to do it. It wasn't that much cheaper than the company I used in the previous years. I would go back to the company I used to use.

Scheduler returned called promptly and set up work consistent with requested time. However, had to follow up with company three times because each time they sealed it rained within 12-24 hours of service. What they did was fine -- it is a relatively old driveway that is nearing the end of its usefulness -- and while they were very responsive to follow-up requests, it was a bit disappointing that they did not check with me the next day given that rain had occurred.

We had Aurora replace our Asphalt driveway with as Concrete driveway in early September 2015. We experienced numerous issues with Aurora. Below is our review from Mid November 2015, driveway poured in early September 2015 (driveway 2.5 months old). Our payment to Aurora has been the down payment only. Color mismatch. Aurora poured our driveway from two trucks out of necessity due to the size. The two pours resulted in dramatically different colors which are completely unacceptable to us. We brought this to the attention to Ron approximately 1 week after the driveway was poured. Ron said it would match closely after 28 days. Considering the color difference, we disagreed but told him we would wait. 2 months have passed since the driveway was poured and it still looks dramatically different. Multiple independent professionals who work with concrete have told us this had to be due to the use of different mixes being used. Ron maintains it was due to the difference in the weather 2 hours apart from 1st pour to 2nd pour. Whatever the case, the color should not be this different. Had we been told they would pour two different color concretes, we would not have chosen Aurora. Pictures below. o The textures of our two pours are dramatically different. You can feel it with your feet or hands. This is due to them being broom finished at different times in the curing process. This too makes the driveway appear mismatched with itself, in addition to the color. Everyone who comes to our house asks us why our driveway does not match. Two months after being poured, our sidewalk panel has a seem to seem crack. We also have many chips at seems (poured in September, this is mid-November). I walked around our block and less than 10% of the sidewalk panels have cracks and they are 15 years old and have experienced some of the coldest winters in Minneapolis? history. Ron replaced 5 of our sidewalk panels that are a part of our driveway or 20% have cracks after 2 months and no winter weather. Aurora broke 3 sprinkler heads. Ron pointed out that the language in the contract states they are not liable for damaged sprinkler heads and this is true. However, we had a contractor replace our patio this spring and he verbally told us to move sprinkler heads and we did it and experienced no issues. From a customer service perspective, it would have been nice to have been given this heads up from a ?top rated? Angie?s list company. Aurora damaged one un-replaced sidewalk panel, garage cement floor and walkway panel upon removal of our asphalt driveway. Ron claims he could tell from a picture of the damage that the walkway panel and driveway panel were already chipped. We disagree, because we did not replace the sidewalk panel because it was not damaged along with the garage floor. Ron had the city sidewalk patched, but it clearly looks patched and we presume the patch will not last as long as undamaged sidewalk. Aurora splashed wet cement on my bricks and did not clean it off ? it is now dried on. In fairness to Aurora, I have not brought this up, but just inspected my driveway one more time for the purpose of this review. Aurora left our hose on top of our flowers and damaged them. They also left the hose running. My wife and I were home at this time and it would have been courteous to ask us to use the hose. Obviously they should have taken better care to turn off the water and not damage our property as well. Aurora dug out the driveway larger than the driveway size for the forms (clearly necessary). However, Aurora proceeded to leave a trench on each side of the driveway and our walkway after they completed the driveway. It would have been nice to know that we would have a significant amount of work to do ourselves once the driveway was poured. This is a customer service issue. Had we been told this was part of our responsibility, we would not have picked Aurora because we did not want to have to do any additional work. After the work was completed, Ron stated this is the way they always do it, but are we supposed to know this? Our neighbors had a concrete driveway poured and this work was done for them. The cost of their driveway was less than ours. Some of the joints are not flush. Ron says this is acceptable. We believe it perhaps acceptable after a freeze thaw cycle, but not on a brand new driveway. Our overall experience with Aurora was very bad. The only decent aspect was the quoting process. An additional example of poor customer service is not telling a customer when they can walk/drive on the sidewalk. This is something we had to ask. Truly not a big deal, but there are a lot of little things in addition to the actual work that make an experience positive or negative. If you think a newly poured driveway should crack, you are okay with your driveway not matching itself and are okay with being in the dark about what to expect, and are indifferent to a lack of care for the customer, this is a good match for you. If not, ask actual people about their experiences with this company or any other company you choose. Ron will reply below that all of this is not a big deal and should be expected. However, the bottom line is we are completely dissatisfied. Ron asked us if we wanted a discount and we said no, we just wanted it done right. Now we want our down payment money back.

Response from Aurora Asphalt & Concrete
I have read your review and would like to explain as I have personally in emails. As you mentioned, your driveway is larger and needed multiple pours to complete. Anytime concrete is poured at a different time with a different truck, there can be color variation. This can be due to the temperature when pouring, moisture in the subgrade, etc. Things are things we can't control. The tickets for all trucks delivering concrete to your project were pulled from Aggregate Industries, our concrete provider and all tickets were identical. We do know that the first pour was on a very cool morning and it warmed up drastically by the mid day pour. This can be a very large contributing factor. We have had Aggregate Industries out to look at the driveway and they said there isn't anything out of the ordinary and over time, it will blend more and more. That being said, there will always be a slight difference since it was a different pour. This is an industry standard. You mentioned that there is a crack. All concrete cracks. We explain this with each and every customer. Most concrete cracks in the first week to 30 days of pouring while curing. Those cracks are usually in the cuts that are made in the driveway. That is why they are there, to hide the cracks. That isn't always the case. Sometimes it will crack in other areas. The rebar we but in the concrete will keep the concrete from shifting apart of up and down. We do not warranty cracks unless the crack opens up or raises up. Regarding the sprinkler heads, it should be noted that we were hired to do an addition to the driveway. The sprinkler heads were found in the addition. Only the homeowner would know they are there and when we show up to dig the addition up, if we find sprinkler lines, we pull them to the outside of the area for a homeowner to reconnect after the project is done. Regarding not being told when to walk/drive on the new area, we thank you for that comment as we are going to have printed a information sheet that will be left with each homeowner outlining this info along with a bit more info like after care.

I had met with several contractor regarding this project and really appreciated Steve's expertise and professionalism at our first meeting. He was able to answer all my questions, gave me pros and cons of different options. I had gotten a number of quotes for asphalt and concrete and was impressed with their price. Their concrete price was better than some I had gotten for all asphalt. It took several weeks for them to start the job but that was fine. Just needed it done before the snow started flying. They tore out the old on Friday prepped it and did the concrete pour on the following Monday. It Looks great! very pleased with the relief cuts they made in the driveway and the new longer sidewalk looks really nice.
Description of Work: They tore out a sidewalk, old concrete apron, asphalt drive and cut out deteriorating front lip of garage floor. All was replaced with concrete.
The 2 man crew did a nice job, edged the driveway, filled large cracks, sealcoated driveway. The cost was higher then the value. smaller cracks did not fill in to surface level.

The first step, getting the driveway measured and quoted went well. The guy was late but not a big deal. The guys that came and tore out the old driveway did a nice job but they were unable to properly mark one corner because their marking paint can didn't work and that caused a problem later. Aurora sent someone to mark and pack the driveway without letting us know. The driveway was marked incorrectly and I had to dig out a section of now-packed crushed gravel/concrete to correct their mistake so I could plant seed. Had they told us they were coming, I would have been home to make sure the work was done correctly. When we complained, they told us they would be packing the driveway again right before paving, whcih wasn't true and didn't happen. So, we'll see how the driveway holds up. I was also not happy that Aurora actually did not do the paving. We had chosen Aurora because of their high reviews on Angie's List so we expected they would actually be the ones paving our driveway. Turns out, they outsourced the paving to another company that we, of course, had no opportunity to research. The driveway is not draining properly and puddles in 1 area. Overall I am not happy with Aurora and I now question the validity of using Angie's List due to Aurora subcontracting the paving job.
Work was completed in a timely fashion. Installers were neat and result is well done. The price increased when I decided to increase the size of the skirt adding an extra foot of cement.

This company gets A for communication. We decided on a day to start and it was going to rain. My stoop sits above a well room they decided to postpone the date concern for rain getting in the basement. They told me the process on how the week would go. There was an issue with the front stoop and they needed to fix the wall which I was told could cost me more money on the estimate. I appreciate the possibility that this could be an issue in the beginning. I wanted a little more of a gradual sidewalk and they were able to accommodate my wishes. My only complaint is they left large chunks of concrete and asphalt on the yard or in the street. They had 10 some nails on the ground once they took the forms away. They just need to fine tune before leaving a job site. I am very happy and I love my new driveway it is such a welcome site coming home at night. [Member name removed]

Ron was very responsive in my request for a bid, always getting back to me within a day. He gave me the Angie's List pricing and we scheduled a date. His crew arrived as expected and did a great job on the apron. They cut the seam perfectly straight, which was really important to me that it look good, and the entire project went well. They spent about an hour or two prepping on the first day (removing asphalt, prepping the base), then spent a few more hours pouring and finishing the concrete on the second day. The crew was polite and efficient. The existing driveway was a bit of a mess following the project, so I'd suggest in planning you do sealcoating following an apron install.
