The technician was extremely knowledgeable and advised that the person that installed the new thermostat did not attach a specific wire so that the air conditioning would work. It took less than 1/2 nhour and the cost was $300.00.

I was able to arrange two days in advance the service appointment to meet my schedule. A 2 hour time window was offered. The technician arrived near the end of the time window which was fine since I was at home all day anyway. The technician was professionally dressed, arrived in a company truck, and identified himself before coming into the house. He removed his shoes before entering the house and went right to work on the furnance. The tech was polite, courteous, and patient and thorough in answering all my quesitons. All cover panels were replaced and the furnance area left as he had found it. A digital copy of the service call was emailed to me before the tech left. The visit lasted about 30 minutes.
Description of Work: This was the first annual service inspection and check up for new furance installed Augst 2012. The technician inspected all connecitons, checked all settings, and tested the CO level. I had mentioned the high end fan speed recently started making excessive vibration and noice. The tech adjusted the fan speed controller which took care of that issue. I am on a $240/year service contract, so there was no separate charge for this work. When outside temps get above 60 they will be back to do an AC checkup, again for no additional charge for this or any other serice calls. An annual plumbing inspection is also part of the service plan.

They arrived on site to give me an annual plumbing inspection which I had scheduled. After entering and inspecting all plumbing lines and appliances they advised me that I needed some work done. They then proceeded to go out into their van to develop an estimate. During the 45 minutes that they were in their van, I went on-line and priced the items and parts that they advised that I needed replace and discovered I could purchase all necessary parts they recommended for less than $60.00 retail at any of several home supply/hardware stores. They had offered to replace those parts for $911.00. The water heater anode replacement was a 15 minute job. The valve replacement was a 30 minute desolder/solder job. There was nothing wrong with the sink drain which has and continues to work perfectly. The told me that for $3,500.00 they would do all of the above and replace my toilet with a comfort height toilet and offer a four year warranty on their work. I find their pricing to be outrageously high for the time and effort required. Needless to say, I did not take their offer and did the work myself for $85.00 and 45 minutes of effort. I will install a comfort height toilet myself and can purchase a very good one along with a seal for less than $500.00. That would be a total investment of less than $585.00 and an hour or so of my time versus the $3,500.00 that they offered for the same work. It's hard to imagine how they would justify $3,000.00 of plumber time for that work. To add insult to injury, they failed to relight the water heater when they left.
Description of Work: Inspected plumbing and told me that I needed to replace a gate valve, a water heater anode rod and the drain connection under my sink for an price of $911.00.

I bought a Groupon for a furnace tune-up. The inspector informed me, soon after arriving, that we had a serious problem with our furnace - there were multiple cracks in the carbon monoxide containment chambers. He then said, for liability and safety purposes, that he had to disconnect our furnace from the gas. So, here I was, noon on a Thursday in February with three small children at home, with no heat. That definitely made me feel pressured (not that that's the fault of Genz-Ryan (GR) - but that was the reality of the situation.) The technician then offered me multiple choices for fixes, ranging from "band-aid" (minimal work to make it functional) to "platinum" (fixing everything should be fixed) - for about $2000-$4600 - but that was just repairs. My other option, which I suggested, was a new furnace...but the technician would not even discuss the price with me unless all "decision-makers" are there. I understand that he wanted my husband to be there to help make the decision, but he was at work and couldn't come home right then. For obvious reasons, I needed to make a quick decision and I just wanted a price to run by my husband on the phone so that I could get things going and be done with the whole ordeal. It was very frustrating to me. I didn't want to fix a 25-year old furnace for the same price I figured I could get a new one. I liked the technician a lot - he seemed knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly, but I was NOT happy that I couldn't even get a "ballpark" figure for a furnace from him. Nevertheless, I called my husband to see what to do but he didn't know what to choose without a replacement price to compare to either. He reminded me that we have a home warranty and suggested that I tell that tech about that to see if that made a difference. The tech and the gal in the GR office both informed me that GR will not work with home warranty companies because they can be difficult to get paid from. I called the home warranty company and they said that I could pay for a furnace and that they would reimburse me up to $700. So, I still would have done the work with GR since I liked the technician and I'm confident that they do good work. But since I couldn't get an answer and needed to move quickly, I let the home warranty people send out their own company who was able to replace the whole thing for about $4000 (part of which was reimbursed by the home warranty company). The GR tech was right - the cracks in my CO chambers were real and that is a serious problem. I'm sure GR would have done a fine job installing a furnace or doing repairs. That said, I felt that the "repair" prices were VERY expensive and frankly, not a good choice given the age of our furnace, and I was frustrated that I was the one who had to suggest a new furnace and that I could not get a price on a new install from them on the spot.

My furnace broke down on a Saturday and I called for emergency service. The person that answered the phone was rude and sarcastic. More importantly, they were not able to provide service the same day. They scheduled me for the following day (Sunday) and I was told it would be at anytime even possibly the evening. They did say they would call 30 minutes before but that was not helpful for me as I intended to stay with family that lived an hour away until my furnace was repaired. Although I called for "emergency" service they were unable to provide prompt service or any time frame of when they could service my furnace the following day. Despite the wait, the weekend charge was still going to be $199 plus the cost of whatever service/repairs were needed. I decided to go with a different provider that was cheaper and able to provide same day service because, at that point, with Genz Ryan, I could have just scheduled a weekday appointment and saved myself the $199 weekend service call fee. I hope their work is better than their customer service.

The work went very well. It started with a phone call before the 2 men arrived, They laided down protective runners on the floors and set to work removing the old furnace. The 2 men worked very well together, each doing their part of the installation. As the day progressed other men came and worked on getting thru our brick outside wall, one hole for exhaust and one for air return to the furnace and a third hole for fresh air into the utility room and one electrican for connecting the heat pump and electrical work together. I was very pleased with the installers. They worked hard and long(12 hrs)

We purchased a promotional voucher for an air conditioning "tune up", but felt like we paid $29 for a sales call. The representative spent a few minutes looking at the air conditioning unit outside, said it was in bad shape and then showed a list of options, with the cheapest band-aid being just under $700 and the most expensive being over $2,000. The rep was honest with me and stated we were probably better off getting a new air conditioner which I appreciated. However, based on his explanation of what a "tune up" normally involves, it didn't seem like it would be worth the stated value of $189 (or the promotional value of $29) even if our air conditioner was in better shape. The rep also looked at our furnace and said that we had a cracked heat exchanger and that we should not use the furnace and would need to replace it before winter. He offered to set up an appointment for a comfort consultant to come to our home. I contacted our gas company that same day as we have a furnace repair plan through them and they treated it as an emergency situation due to possible carbon monoxide, sending a crew out immediately to look at the furnace (even though it wasn't being used at the time). After inspecting, they stated that they did not see any cracks and the furnace was fine to use. It is possible that the Genz Ryan rep saw something that the gas company rep didn't, but I couldn't help but wonder if this was all a part of the sales pitch.

Visit went very well. Service man was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions regarding AC performance. During the visit he identified a couple of electrical components that should be replaced as a preventative measure due to years of corrosion and pest infestation. He pulled out his "flat rate" book and offered 3 or 4 options starting from a "bandaid" $300 fix to a "gold" fix that was over $1000. He did not try to pressure sell me on any option. I declined his offers and went on the internet, spent $40 on the same parts, and completed the install myself in less than 10 minutes. Watch out for the "flat rate" book.

I was pleased with their response time regarding answering questions, contacting the correct person to talk with to get info. The salesman was nice and has since retired. Unfortunately, I was promised a base for the furnace (which I was told by salesman that I had plenty of room to install) to sit on and create more airflow which would help the furnace work more efficiently. Once the tech got here he said with the new Coleman's they are taller and the base would not fit unless he reconfigured the entire duct system. Needless to say, I did not get the promised "added bonus". The technician was very nice and helpful and took time to explain all my questions. The furnace is working well at this point. I am waiting to see the potential lower gas bill this winter.

I purchased a voucher from Groupon to get the water heater checked and drained. He arrived on time. He drained the water heater and checked it out. He suggested I replace the inside pipe because it had started to deteriorate. We agreed on the price but as hard as he tried, he couldn't get the pipe out as the factory had twisted the bolt too tightly. He was very knowledgeable and very polite. I will call Genz-Ryan with my future plumbing needs.

Their technicians don't seem to know a thing about hvac!
Description of Work: We bought a brand new house and the builder had used Genz-Ryan for all the plumbing and hvac. It took one year, 5 service calls, and a request for a supervisor to come out and fix the bathroom fan. It was stuck running on high but all their technicians swore it was "working fine" until the supervisor came out and noticed the switch was in fact... stuck on high. Also our dual zone AC has never worked and we had them come out numerous times to look at that. Every time we received the same answer "it's working fine". Finally we paid a different company to come and look at it and it turns out they hadn't put enough freon in it!!!!!Whatever you do, do not choose this company. I am pretty sure all their technicians come from clown school! There a bunch of parrots who have been trained to repeat the phrase "it's working fine" over and over and over...

I've used GR since they installed my HVAC when I built my house in 2007. While the servicemen are very responsive, knowledgeable and professional and easy to talk to, I have had more HVAC issues that I I think I should have with a new system. A few examples: they never installed the water softener I purchased (until I noticed and called them about it), and they messed up the wiring in the humidifier, and it wasn't working (until I noticed it was really dry in the house that winter and called them). The first few years I had to call them multiple times each year to fix something. They always came out and fixed it right away, which was appreciated (covered under warranty), but again, I don't feel like I should have had that many issues. Thus while I would use them again for any service or repairs, if I was building a new house, I would likely go with another HVAC company to install everything.

The tech showed up on time and was professional. The first thing he wanted to do was connect his gauges to the service valve to test the freon level. When he attempted to remove the cap from the access, the freon started to leak out. He said he couldn't check it and was concerned all the freon would leak out and that the whole valve would need to be replaced at about $1200 and he wasn't sure if the part was even available. I would need to think about this as the A/C was working a little. Should I replace the A/C and possibly the furnace as they are ~12 years old. I started setting up appointments for bids on new systems. I asked one of these other companies, Hoffman, to give me a bid on the repair. They sent out a person within the hour and he replaced a $2.50 valve inside the service valve and added 1 lb of freon. No expensive repair and no new A/C replacement. Genz-Ryan nees to make sure their techs are more thorough before they jump to the conclusion of an expensive repair. At least my A/C was working a little so I had time to think and consider my options. I was disappointed in Genz-Ryan as I grew up in the area and wanted to work with the local company.

The important part is that she is very happy with the system and loves the better tasting water. And I am glad my water pipes will not build more deposits. Also the installation went very smooth with the plumber and he finished in less then two hours.
Description of Work: We are doing a total Kitchen remodel and my wife wanted the under counter water filtering system. John Callahan came out to discuss what they had to offer. He offered us the reverse osmosis system under the counter for drinking water and a whole house filtering system. My wife asked some questions; she wanted the osmosis system under the sink (our son has that) and I was leaning toward the whole house system. They both cost the same amount of money which I checked with Culligans osmosis system. We said we would think about it, would go with Genz/Ryan and let him know which system. John called a day later saying that one of the questions bothered him and he had called a specialist to get the answer and would stop by to clarify. He did stop even though it was a weekend; clarified it with my wife and we agreed on the whole house system.

A+++++ Genz Ryan is a class act, best outfit I interviewed to work on my house. The staff is so friendly, and not in a fake way, they were sincerely interested in providing the best solution that was both cost effective and the right fix for what I needed done. They also assisted me in the rebate process through local and any applicable federal programs. They did everything right the first time, and if for some odd reason something wasn't right after the fact, they guaranteed their work, which I frankly appreciate. I have had way too many hacks bid jobs at my house that probably won't provide a warranty longer than a day, therefore I was pleased to have a company like Genz Ryan do this work for me. This was my first experience with them, and I would absolutely use them again, and again, and refer them to my close friends and family. I would call them in the future for any services they provide because I was so impressed with how they handled their HVAC work.

After two winters in our 1922 bungalow in St. Paul I was not very happy with the cost to keep our home heated. I didn't want to invest in a new boiler so I started looking at alternative options. After looking on the internet I thought it might help to call some professionals for their opinion. One of the companies I called was Genz Ryan. I knew right away I was talking to an experienced professional. He told me about a product called a Honeywell AquaReset Outdoor System. The price quote and installation was competitive with other companies I researched against. I choose Genz Ryan because they never tried to push any brands or products on me. Once he knew what type of boiler I had and relative age he knew exactly what I needed for the results I was looking for. After researching his recommendation online I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. The technician arrived at my house on-time and was very professional. The installation took just over one hour with no hiccups. After 4 months of using this product my heating bills are 10-15% lower than last year. In addition, I am able to keep my thermostat at a higher temperature than in previous winters. I am very happy with this product as well as the service I received from Genz Ryan. Their technician was very knowledgeable. The sales team listens to me and recommended products based on my needs. They never forced or pushed me into a product that was really expensive or excessive for my needs. I will be recommending this product to any person that is looking to increase an old boiler's efficiency.

Genz Ryan was extremely nice throughout the entire process, start to finish. They have a no pressure bidding policy, which I enjoyed, because other companies don't always follow this procedure. The communication, coordination, and work was what impressed me. In addition, their admin staff does a wonderful job of following up to ensure the best possible service and outcomes. The techs that came to my house to perform work were more polished and professional than others individuals I have encountered in the pass, ie I had no reservations about who was in my house. The work they did was outstanding and backed up by their awesome warranty. In my opinion, a warranty is only as good as the company who provides it, and to my knowledge they have been around for a very long time, therefore I trust they will be there in the future should I need them. I would recommend Genz Ryan to all of my friends and family members, given the absolutely great results I achieved with them!!!

Genz Ryan came to my home to review my boiler system. This was a new home for myself and I was unfamiliar with boilers. I was looking for someone who was knowledgeable with these type of systems to verify mine was in working order. Their service technician walked me through the system and how to service it. He said everything looked good except the pump. He said the pump was pretty old and should be replaced. Happy that everything else was fine, I figured I'd wait on the pump. One month later the pump failed. It was Friday at 3pm. It was winter and without this pump my home would start getting cold. I contacted Genz Ryan and got ahold of their service manager, Andy Ryan. Andy said all of his technicians were currently out on calls. Seeing how it was Friday afternoon, I figured I was in for a cold weekend. Andy listened to what had happened. He asked that I e-mail him a picture of the pump and he would do some research. 30 minutes later Andy called me back. He said he had a replacement part and would be bringing it to my home and installing it himself. He was at my home 30 minutes later. To install the pump Andy had to drain the water out of the entire system, replace the pump, and then refill the entire system. This was not a small task and Andy was at my home until 7pm that night. This type of service is unprecedented. I would highly recommend Andy Ryan and his team to anyone with plumping or HVAC needs.

They never pulled a permit, and the work was never inspected. It was installed improperly. None of the seams were ever sealed on the ductwork; this resulted in condensation, which resulted in mold, rust, and water in our attic. They’ve strung us along since 1998 with telling us to try different things to fix the situation. It is costing us $9000 to get our house back to normal.

We got a high effeciency furnace but it was first thought we could use the existing exhause ductwork. As it wurns out we could not so the work crew had to route an entirely new vent stack and exhaust stack - across the basement, up the garage wall and out the garage roof. All of this was beautifully done. They took extra care to make sure the mess was minimized and the finished product was hidden from view. They even installed a drainage system in PVC for the existing water softener and humidifier so the install was very neat and clean. Could not have been happier with the work and the team was fantastic! Genz-Ryan processed all the aperwork for rebates from various sources and have called me now 3 times to make sure things are working fine. Would highly recommend.

My A/C went out on a Friday night. We suffered through the weekend and called Genz-Ryan on Monday morning at 8:30am. With the record humidity and muggy weather, I fully expected to wait a day or two for service. To my delight, a service technician called me back in less than 30 minutes and said that he was just leaving a service call in Oakdale and could be at my home in Woodbury in 30 minutes. Service Technician Cory Von Bank arrived in less than 30 minutes, found and corrected the problem (blown motor capacitor) and had my A/C blowing cold air in less than 30 minutes. While checking the rest of the system, he explained what I could do to maintain my A/C system for peak performance in these hot and muggy days. I could not have asked for better service. I have used Genz-Ryan on prior heating and cooling service calls and found their service to be prompt, professional and reasonably priced. With this service call, they set a new standard for performance. I recommend Genz-Ryan without reservation.

During my time with them, I had a heating replacement unit installed. It ended up costing me approximately $1200, which seemed astronomical to me. I’ve questioned their billing practices during my time with them. I don’t understand why you have to pay a service fee to come out when I’m paying them continuously for their contract. I have since stopped working with them.
Description of Work: I had a contract with them for electrical, heating, and plumbing services.
