Description of Work: Overall, it was a good job. However, the room with the leak had stucco walls. Holes were made, and fans and dehumidifiers installed temporarily. Later on, when we hired someone to plug the holes, we found out that given the way stucco breathes holes are not crucial to accelerate drying (the difference in speed to fully dry is not that much with or without holes). In retrospect, we wish that this conversation and full disclosure were made in advance -- and then we could have made an informed decision.

We needed a new roof on our house. They did the tear off and replaced everything needed to meet or exceed code requirements. We needed some small portions of our decking replaced because of deterioration and that was done. Our experience with this company was very good. They were prompt to meet with us and do the work. My phone calls and questions were answered in a timely manner. They did the work when promised and finished when promised. All the debris was cleaned up around our house. The roof is warranted.
Description of Work: Installed a new roof on our house.

The work was excellent! They have a very high level of customer service. They have an excellent level of communication as far as keeping the customer updated and providing excellent with responsiveness. They worked directly with our insurance company so that I did not have to get involved in any of that. They have the experience services as a liaison between the insurance companies and the client. They far exceeded our expectations and I would recommend Barnhouse Exteriors without hesitation.

9/27/13 Update: So far I have had 3 GAF certified contractors look at my roof and they found problems. I am faxing you a copy of one of the Proposals and I circled where it shows that Barnhouse only put drip edging on the back of the house. They were paid to do this all around my house. Sides, front, garage, anywhere the shingles hang over the edge. Since they have already been paid by the Ins. company this cost will be coming out of my pocket to put all the drip edging on. I was told by the GAF contractors why it is so important to have it on and do not know why Barnhouse did not do it since it is a process that is always done. They said without the drip edge the rain etc. will get under the shingles and cause damage. The drip edging keeps that from happening and the process is to put the weather piece down, nail the drip edge on then put the shingles over it. Now they would have to try to nail the drip edge as close as they can under what's left of the shingle that's hanging over because you can't pull up the shingles and put it under without damage. Also I have another problem the Sela GAF inspector noticed, because he took the time to measure, that Barnhouse didn't even leave enough hang over shingle to even try to nail a drip edge on because the shingle is suppose to hang over it. Not only that but I also had these contractors come out to give me a proposal on cost to put fascia all around the house. Normally they would just slide the fascia under the drip edge. Now it can't be done the way it's suppose to be and will cost more. Sela Is going to try and do something to help me because I have to have something to keep the rain etc. from getting under the shingles. I also spoke to the city inspector that inspects from the ground. He said he tried to talk with Barnhouse and they told him as far as they are concerned the roof is done and they won't come back. So their contract means nothing if I decided to let them try to fix this mess they left me! They also did not complete the job they were paid to do and pocketed the money. That's Fraud! They put vents on the garage because they messed up and are saying for the public to see that I told them it was hot in the garage and I wanted vents and that they did it at no cost. That is such a lie and ridiculous! The agreement was to put the extra 2 vents on the house roof because the attic was so hot and needed more ventilation! REBUTTAL TO COMPANY RESPONSE: I am writing this from the Aug. 1st review I gave Angie's list to put in for me to clarify a few things. Barnhouse said they negotiated with my Ins. company to cover my porch roof before and after they broke it by having 2 or 3 men walking on it. I know there were at least 2 and one of them was a very large person. Well this is not true. My Ins. company had already agreed to replace it if I chose to, do to hail damage way before I even new about Barnhouse. The roof was structually sound, not leaking and was fine except for the hail damage. I even had some very precious things I was storing in my porch for almost 2 years after a city sewer back up damaged my entire finished basement. If there was anything wrong with my porch roof that would damage these things I would never have put them out there. I was having them put what they said would work on to cover the hail dents and prevent any leaks in the future that may happen. They said it would match the roof. After they destroyed the once sound structure, I had to hire someone to help me move the things out of my 3 season porch and I would not let my family go out into it for fear of it falling. Now I had to get someone to put bracing up until I could find a place that would only replace the roof and not the whole porch. When I found someone who would replace this type of roof who has done it for 25yrs. I even asked him to come out to try and explain to them about this type of roof. He told them and me that what I had been doing to keep the maintinance up with it was exactly right. For Barnhouse to say my 3 season porch was damaged do to my neglect and years of leaking is simply untrue. Not only that but the way they continued to yell and badger me with 6 men concerned the person I asked to be there. He had to leave but called me back out of his concern and could not believe how they acted tword me and having 6 men come out for this really concerned him. I also told him what they said he said and he said 'That's not what I said'! Of course they did the same with thing to me and twisted what I said so that did not suprise me. They were yelling and saying things to try and humiliate me so loudly that the neighbors asked me what had been going on and that I should have called the police. As far as trying to rip them off? Saying that is just SAD concidering they not only put me in the position of now having to finding someone who would replace my porch roof, but also put the two vents on the garage when they were suppose to put them on the house, not being willing to show me things on the roof so I can see what was done and be able to ask questions. Never once did they apologized or take responsibility for what they did. All they did was yell, tell me to shut up, close my mouth, yell and hang up on me, threaten me and even use extremely bad language when speaking to me. I have never experienced such a thing and would not lower myself to their behavior! As far as saying they gave me anything FREE nothing was ever FREE. It was all part of what they said was in the package that they were giving me, I even had Jason Barnhouse sign and date what was all part of the package including needing to use 6 nails in some of the areas the GAF Warrenty said had to be there or the warrenty would not be honord. The Ins. company even told me to pay them less than they wanted and as far as them saying I had no out of pocket expense, well everyone knows there is always money up front. I agreed to give them $3365.03 which included my deductible ($1000.00) That Jason insisted on and also money that was to go tword other things. They agreed to give me back $456.87 of it. Roofing upgrade (that all the roofers I spoke with were doing), Product Warrenty on materials and labor and lifetime warrenty on product, which needs 6 nails in certain areas of the roof to be of any use (the 6 nails he said they would do, he also said they didn't do after completion because they felt I didn't need them and then switched the story to they did put them in. Of course I won't know if they did or didn't. He even said that in front of the city inspector, who told me he thought Barnhouse was rather rude to me in his opinion. With not being allowed to check my roof with them and ask questions, the nails, vents, etc. and their behavior ,as far as I know Jason didn't honor the contract we both signed that I wrote up separately so everything he said they would do would be done. And the inspector checked the roof from the ground and asked Jason Barnhouse questions on what was done to the roof and Jason was not even there when the roof was done! They didn't even secure my antenna the way it was. And just the other day I found roofing nails that popped off the roof in front of the garage on the driveway (they were not there before). I double checked and picked up what they missed on the ground and driveway so I would not get a flat and I now feel I'd better keep checking. Now today 8-9-2013 I recieved a message from Jason Barnhouse to call him. I will not put myself through anymore of Barnhouse behavior. I will not take another chance at trying to talk to people who spoke to me by yelling, swearing, getting out of controle and kept treating me the way they did! If they keep calling me I will consider it more on going harasssment. I am shocked that people can come off so nice and then end up being so cruel. I'm also concerned that when I did everything right,(see Angie's list and check the BBB etc. things still go so terribly wrong.
Description of Work: They came to me one day and said that I needed to fix my roof on my house and I also wanted them to look at hail damage on my porch roof. They convinced me they could talk to the insurance company and get them to cover the job. They put the roof on the house, did not put vents where they agreed to put them. They put them on the garage for no reason. They told me it was a city code issue but the city inspector said they did not need to do it. They should have put them on the house, they accused me of lying about what type of vents that I said I wanted. They ended up breaking my porch roof when they were trying to put a cover on it that would glue down and match the house roof, they did not tell me they would walk on it or inform me that there was a possibility that the roof would collapse. They did not tell me they don't usually work on that type of roof, aluminum porch roof. They never said to me there was a possibility of the porch roof breaking. This is a family company, most of my contact has been with Jason and Dan. There was also a brother named Aaron. They were really kind in the beginning but when the porch roof broke and when they realized the vents were in the wrong place their attitude seemed to change. They have yelled and screamed at me over these issues, including calling me a liar and cursing at me. One day 6 people from the company showed up to have a meeting about the issues and they were all yelling at me. They actually asked me how I would do it when I was questioning them about how they chose to go about the job. They were telling me over and over to shut my mouth. They were beyond rude with me, telling me to "close my mouth" and worse. When I asked them if they were going to take responsibility for breaking the porch roof, they told me no. This conversation is happening in front of the city inspector, this city inspector never got on the roof to look at it. Did all his inspecting from the ground. I paid them per my insurance companies suggestion but I am still dealing with the porch roof issue. They were supposed to come before we leave for vacation on the 2nd. I took care of it on my own so they would not be here while I was gone. I have no confidence in the work they did on my homes roof. I don't know if the job has been done correctly and if I am going to have any additional issues. They agreed to do certain things to make sure my warranty would be good and I don't know if they did those things correctly even though they agreed to do them. I wanted them to go up on the roof with me, they would not go on the roof with me to review it what so ever. They are refusing to take responsibility.

This homeowner is completely out of line. We gave her a GAF system plus- LIFETIME warranty and everything was installed to GAF specifications. We added ventilation to her garage because she said it gets very hot in her garage. We did this additional work at no charge. We got her roof covered and paid for 100% by the insurance company. We then performed extra work at no charge so she could have credits towards her deductible. In the end the insurance company paid for the new roof, and porch roof. (Member’s name) is not a roofer. We gave her the warranty info and it is fully warranted – so when she says she is not sure the warranty is valid- she is lying. She has the warranty in her files at home! She can call another roofing company to inspect our work – feel free to do so. They will find no issues whatsoever. The city passed our roofing final inspection with no issues to be fixed! The insurance company agreed to pay for the porch roof due to homeowner neglect it caved in! What does she want – she received a great roof with free upgrades and Free Lifetime Warranty! (Member’s name) received a great roof at no cost out of her pocket the insurance company paid for both the house and porch roof. We gave her a Free Lifetime Warranty and upgraded her roofing materials to Timberline HD Shingles. For Free! We cut extra ventilation at no additional charge (member’s name) has the GAF system plus Lifetime Warranty in hand. I am not sure what else we could have done for her. She should be completely satisfied! I am willing to listen to her complaint and do anything in my power to try and resolve these issues!

We had a great experience with them. He was prompt, came and gave me an estimate, went on top of the roof before I even hire them to find out what the problem was, have quality materials, explained what he needed to do, gave me an itemized list, cleaned up their mess, anything that came out the roof, they made sure the nails and everything was picked up from the plants and the shrubs to make sure it won't damage any property.
Description of Work: I used Barnhouse Exteriors to fixed the roof that was done by somebody that wasn't so good, came and took care repairs that needed to be done and do a couple of extra things for my windows while he was here.

Daniel called for an appointment with us and came right on time. We were impressed immediately with his knowledge and professionalism. He worked with our insurance company and set up the whole process. They arrived early in the morning of the day the work was to be done and everything went like clockwork. They protected our plants while removing the old roof and cleaned up nicely after the fact. In was done in less than a full day as they said it would be. We have recommended the company to others and would hire them again if the need arose.
Description of Work: Our roof and downspout received hail damage from a recent storm and Barnhouse put on a whole new roof plus the downspout that they had to paint to match.

Having received quotes from several roofing companies, we very much appreciated that Barnhouse was straightforward and upfront with their pricing. We didn't have to play games and negotiate the price. Other companies started out around $19,000, then gave us "discounts" to bring it down to $15,000. Barnhouse started right at $11,000, which was the best price anyone offered. They were here on time, early even, and completed the job in one day as promised, even though the temperature was around 100 degrees. They were efficient and professional. We are very pleased with our overall experience with Barnhouse. I would highly recommend them to anyone!
