Excellent - very punctual, professional - and told me what I needed without trying to upsell me like other service providers had.

Our experience with Phillips Painting was excellent.    Steve was punctual, professional,  understanding of our needs and very pleasant to deal with.   And, the painting quality was excellent, as was the clean-up.   We will certainly use Steve again if the need arises.

They did a real good job.  Their location, the proposal, and the estimate made me choose them for the job.  I was satisfied with the estimate and the proposal of the work.  They were in and out of here in a day and everything was clean when they left.  We would use them again; we liked them.

Was asked for estimates to touch up/paint areas of home that had peeling paint.  He said he couldn't do the work because he doesn't have a 40 foot ladder. That being said, if you were a painter, wouldn't you have a 40 ft ladder? This is the first time I have ever heard a painter tell me this. If you don't have a 40 foot ladder than you are going to lose out on some bids. A 40 foot ladder is $419 at Home Depot. Based on other quotes I have had,  this job at a minimum would be $2000.00, Im sure it woudl be more. Im sure the ladder would pay for itself in future jobs. In my opinion he didnt want to do job because of difficulty or he couldn't make enough from it.  I guess this is just another example of a painter cherry picking the easy/well paying jobs they want to do. Fortunately for him, unlike many others, he is a position to turn down work.
Response from Phillips Painting Plus LLC
"I was reticent to respond to these baseless accusations by this member, but my wife prevailed upon me to at least present some pertinent facts regarding this unfortunate situation. I should point out that I have never met him, never spoken to him in person or on the phone. No emails, no texts. I have, in fact, had no communication with him whatsoever. The request for the estimate came through his brother, Jack. As to the accusation that I am unprofessional for not providing an estimate, I would hold to the opposite view. I believe it to be unprofessional for any contractor to bid for a job he believes to be beyond his capabilities. In my church, I assist with the handyman ministry, providing assistance primarily to single mothers and the elderly. On more than one occasion we have been asked to help correct the work of a contractor who attempted a job beyond his means. Finally, he has accused me of "cherry picking" the easy jobs. I'm curious as to how he arrived at this conclusion since again, we have never communicated. Nonetheless, I would enjoy giving him a tour of some of these "easy" houses I have painted around the twin cities metro area. He could then explain to me how easy it is to be on a sharply angled roof, on a ladder, scraping peeling paint or thirty some feet up on a ladder applying protective paper to a mainenence free soffit to protect it from paint overspray. I respect his right to share his opinion. I would encourage him, however, to gather some facts before rendering such a vitriolic judgement."

I called Steve to make an appointment. He told me where to go to look at paint samples and I just e-mailed him with what I wanted. He bought and brought the paint himself, saving me a trip. He came on time with a great attitude. He didn't need much from me, just consulted me on whether I preferred a second coat. He didn't try to persuade me into extra services/spending more money. He was honest and tried to keep the cost as low as possible for me. He cleaned up completely when he was done. Overall, the process was very quick and with just him alone, still only took around 5 hours. He charges by the space, not the time, which is also nice. I would definitely recommend him to a friend and will only go to him for future interior painting projects.

Steve has worked for us several times before.  He is a perfectionist, which is great because I am very picky!  He does an excellent job, and even cleans up everything before he leaves.  He is very professional as well as nice to have around!  He is always on time, and works hard all day.  We would never use anyone else.

The experience was actually pretty good. It was positive. The gentleman I spoke with was timely and showed up on time. He got the work done when he said he was going to get it done. He was pleasant to deal with. He did a great job. I didn't have to do any other cleaning since he took care of all of that. He was very professional in the way he handled the whole job.

Steve was very professional, helpful and polite.  He took the time to answer all of my questions and gave me some great recommendations on the work I needed done.  He was very flexible with setting a time to meet and he was on time for that meeting.  The only reason  I didn't hire Steve was because the project was more expensive than I originally thought and I intend to most of the project myself however I will definitely call Steve when the project gets over my head and I need a professional to keep me on track.

Thank you again Steve!

Steve was very professional, showed up when he said he would, his paint quality was perfect and he is really friendly and kind, to boot!
Interior involved extensive prep including wallpaper removal.  Outcome was excellent.  Exterior was sprayed and also was outstanding.

We couldn't be more pleased with his excellent service.  He painted a large bedroom, 5 rooms of enamel woodwork, and has just completed the entire exterior of our home.  He is courteous, professional, extremely neat, and very detailed.  We found his price to be very fair and reasonable.  We highly recommend him to all!

I could not be more pleased. If you are looking for a top notch, reputable, professional painter in the Twin Cities area (within 50 miles) this is a great painter to use. Steve is a very detail oriented, only uses the best paint (Hirshfields, Sherwin Williams) and does not use big box paint. He is meticulous and yet works fast. He has his techniques down. I was very impressed and the room looks fabulous. I have already had friends and family come over and their first reaction is always, "Wow!". He helped me pick out a great color and made recommendations based upon my trim color. The work was done on time and no extra cleanup was required. A+ recommendation.
