Property Appraisal, Mortgage Companies
I found AmeriSave Mortgage Corporation on the internet and they offered some pretty good deals. Their service is completely online, which sounds convenient and nice. You follow this process and it wasn't until Step 7 that I had to give them any hard core information. I communicated with somebody online - in Chat. I had to pay $15 just to fill out the application form. It wasn't a grueling process, but I'm still doing something for them. They tell you before you do it that if you end up going with them, they get to keep the $15. So I went ahead with that part of the process. Before I signed off on doing an appraisal, I would have to agree to $375 fee for an appraisal. Which is kind of market value, it is not out of the realm of possibility, but once you agree to that, you have to pay it right then and there. So I held off and literally I got a phone call from these people talking about the process. I thought this might be good customer service, and I explained that I was busy at the time so I had to stop the process and get back to it tomorrow. That night I typed in to the computer "Who owns AmeriSave?" because I thought I should know who I am dealing with. I wasn't even looking for reviews on then - which I probably should have been - but there was all this information from people writing them up online came up. They were so negative and one of them said "They own their own appraisal company." The people online kept saying "They are not really interested in the mortgage, that's the carrot: they want the appraisal money." So what happens is, people would pay $375 for this appraisal, and you are just writing them a check for nothing. They would supposedly hire a third party to come out and appraise your property, and people kept saying how the response was Oh, no, we can't give you the loan. Your property is not worth this or that. They are just sucking the $375 out of people. Obviously, if they do go through the loan process with you, they only do it if they can see there's a way to make a lot of money out of it, but that's not their primary goal. I sent an e-mail to the guy I had been dealing with and told him I'd run in to a lot of bad reviews online about them. I said I'm uncomfortable about doing this process now, and I'm sorry but I want you to delete my account - because I'd given him my Social Security Number. I told him If you do that, I won't be writing any bad reviews about you guys or anything, I just want to move on. The guy e-mailed back and took offence to it. I just asked them to destroy my account. They refused. I also said in the e-mail I paid you $15, I'm not going to ask for it back, but I think my $15 is worth at least you deleting all my information, my account. No. They refused to delete my account. They have mine and my wife's Social Security Numbers. I had a momentary lapse of reason when I gave them the numbers, and I'm really upset that they won't delete the account and think they can get away with that.
