MAINTENANCE BY KANE has painted our small, Tudor-style condo complex two times in the past (14 units, brick & stucco board structure). That was before I moved here and became president of the association. This job once again involved replacement of rotted wood and complete painting of the building, garage/front doors. When Al Kane gave me a quote this past spring he informed me he was pretty booked-up but ASSURED me he could complete the project this year. He said he just wouldn't be able to start until late summer or early fall. It was like pulling teeth to get a contract & proof of insurance, and then he never stopped by to SIGN it or pick it up like he said he would. As time passed his story changed, stating "we should be able to get the all wood primed and replaced this year, weather permitting, but the painting might have to wait until spring." Finally on October 26th Al called and said they would be able to start the job towards the end of the following week or the beginning of the week after (which would have been around November 1st or 5th). Almost another whole month goes by (3 weeks to be exact) with no call, no show, no explanation or even excuses. I just thought that was the last I was going to here from Al Kane. Then on the morning of November 26th Al and his crew just show up, with no previous notification, and start ripping wood off the building. How could he think we'd even still be interested after all these broken promises and general overall lackadaisical attitude? We were no longer interested! Besides the fact he didn't even have a signed contract and the proof of insurance he had provided had already expired! I told him we were no longer interested and we're going with another company in the spring. I made sure his crew put the wood back that that they'd already removed. DON'T LET THIS GUY STRING YOU ALONG, like he did to us. I think he originally took the job as an "IF WE HAVE TIME, WE'LL DO IT", thinking he could always just start it and leave it partially done for a whole season. That certainly EXHIBITS A LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM!
