When I first called, he did not answer his phone and I did not leave a voice mail. A few seconds later, my own phone rang and someone said, and quot;Who is this?and quot; without any nicety and without identifying himself. I replied and said I had found his name on Angie's List and explained what work we needed done. At first he said he didn't want to take the job because he doesn't do that kind of outside work, but then asked for our address to give us a quote anyway.
He stopped by the next afternoon and gave us a quote of $150: $30 for materials and $120 for labor (he charges per hour and estimated how long it would take him).
Although I was unimpressed with his professionalism (specifically his phone manners and his, and quot;I-don't-want-the-job-wait-I-doand quot; attitude), we went with Mr. Lounds because none of the other companies we contacted called us back, and time was of the essence (we had to close up the hole in the soffit before squirrels moved in!).
In any case, we found his quoted price to be very reasonable, the work was completed quickly, and the work was of excellent quality.
Mr. Lounds certainly does quality work, and he would be the first person I would call if I needed inside woodwork restoration. However, I would not recommend him for outside jobs, as he clearly prefers to work on high-end, inside jobs.
