The provider was wanting to rip out everything and redo that as well as the tuckpointing that I was needing for a total of $3000. I felt that this was way too expensive. My regular cement guy informed me that there is nothing wrong with the cinder blocks, they just need to be ground down a bit and refilled with cement. He is going to do the whole thing for $600. I have contacted Angie's List in order to get a refund of the Big Deal purchase.
Description of Work: This was a Big Deal purchase for $99 for $300 Worth of Masonry, Chimney, or Tuckpointing Service.

Response from Arbor Brickworks LLC
(Member name removed) We apologize we could not provide a satisfying estimate for you. We are happy to hear that you have found somebody you are satisfied with. Upon estimating your property both Arbor Brickworks LLC and yourself confirmed that your porch was a hollow structure and was deteriorating, indicating that there was severe water damage on the inside of the porch as well as noting that moss was growing inside of the block mortar joints causing further deterioration. You had asked how much it would cost to "just fill" the joints with new mortar and we responded that $500 would be an appropriate estimate for that work if appropriate. On that note we also explained that we were not interested in doing work that would not provide a proper structure for our name sake. Again we apologize for your inconvenience and please contact us if you have any further concerns or questions. Regards, Taylor Duerr CEO Arbor Brickworks LLC 734-757-5496

The chimney had been deteriorating for the last few years and could not wait any longer. I saw the Angie's deal and bought it. I could not be happier with the work. Taylor was was very professional and his workers cleaned up every day. The work was done in three days and looks great. He recommended a sealer for the brick to prevent future problems, which I used.
Description of Work: Rebuilt 11 brick courses of the chimney, sealed the bricks to prevent further damage, replaced limestone cap, tuck pointed various other brick areas and reset several limestone window ledges.
Description of Work: Repairs had to be made on my chimney's and porch. The chimney caps had to be replaced along with the top half of bricks. A few bricks had to be replaced by the front porch as well and the porch step leading up onto the porch was also done. The workers were very thorough in their work. Everything that was going to be done was explained beforehand. I also told them that I worked midnights and would be sleeping while they were working. He said that would be no problem and that they would be very quiet which they were. All of the work from replacing the mortar to the bricks came out perfect. If you are asking me if I would use the service again. I absolutely would. If you want to know whether I would recommend them. I most definitely would.

Arbor Brickworks was courteous and informative every step of the way. The job took a little longer than they had anticipated. The new brick facade looks great and matches perfectly because they reused the old bricks. They cleaned up every day and when the job was finished, even took away some of our debris that was piled up. Taylor was very communicative with us. We are going to use them in the near future to finish us some more jobs around the house.
Description of Work: Removed existing brick facade on back of house, chiseled and cleaned bricks then rebuilt the brick facade. (The original brick facade was falling away from the house.) Tuck pointed chimney and repaired chimney.

My house was built in 1923 it has 2 fireplaces so the chimney is quite large. Last winter I really noticed a how badly it was deteriorating while I was shoveling I kept finding big pieces of mortar in the driveway. Come Spring I could see a great deal of the mortar was missing and some of the bricks were loose and shifted from their original position. It also had had a huge old antenna attached to it that I had tried in vain to remove myself. I saw the Big Deal for Arbor Brick Works and after reading other reviews I purchased it. I emailed Taylor and he responded immediately, I gave him my address and said he would go by and take a look. Within a day Taylor called and said he emailed a proposal with a picture of what he wanted to do. I was stunned by the picture I never thought a chimney could be beautiful. Part of what he quoted (replace the cement chimney cap with a limestone one) was not in my budget so we agreed to skip that part and set a start date. The next day Taylor called and said he’d thought about it and decided to give me the limestone cap without any charge. He said he grew up down the street and went to the same high school as my kids, I was from his home town and he just wanted to do the best job he could for me. When he came to my house with the paper work he was very professional, polite and personable. Taylor took the time to explained the how and why of everything that would be done so that I completely understood what that I was getting. He said all they would need was a water source and electrical outlet and if I didn't have an accessible outlet no problem he had a generator. They did an amazing job, they arrived a little later than expected due to weather conditions but did let me know their updated arrival time. They started immediately and worked until dark finishing all of the repair work. Taylor and Sean answered any questions I had and just worked, nonstop they all seemed to know exactly what to do and just did it seamlessly. Taylor said they would be back the next day to apply the weatherproofing and finish their clean up. When I pulled into my driveway after work the next day the driveway was so clean and the flowerbed under the chimney was untouched. I wouldn't have known any work was done until I looked up and saw my amazing chimney - best looking chimney on the street and an amazing experience!
Description of Work: Remove and tuck-point all mortar from every joint of chimney from roof line to top of chimney, removed ancient antenna and took it away. Removed old chimney cap replaced with limestone sill cap, installed new flue liner with stainless steel flue cover top. Acid washed all repaired/replaced areas and applied super diamond clear weatherproofing coat from rooftop to top of chimney.

It was so-so. When they came to look at the project, it turned out to be more expensive – like, $2800. They were timely on getting going on the project, but I wasn’t completely satisfied with all the workmanship. When they left, my expectation was that we’d walk around to inspect the final piece to see if I was satisfied – and that didn’t occur. I called the owner of the company, and he called my point person. That person got in contact with me, came back out, and I showed him what I was unhappy with. He put in time doing repairs, and I expected that we’d walk around to inspect the work. Again, that didn’t occur. There were clumps of the mortar all along the edge on the ground and there was a great deal of dust that came up from them initially working to get the grout out. I believe it was their expectation that I’d clean up most of this – it got on the screens, windows, and all around the house. I would’ve asked them to clean it up, but I didn’t bother getting back in touch with the owner of the company after the 2nd episode. When I said I wasn’t pleased with the workmanship and the mortar: they left it as a clump instead of smoothing it around, and there were some areas that were left as gaps.

Estimate was accurate as was the work schedule. Job site was kept neat and put away at the end of the day. Contractor kept client informed about progress, challenges and made helpful suggestions for improving the job. Brick selected exactly matched existing 50 year old commercial brick. Limestone capstones washed and reset. Appearance and quality of construction are excellent.

It went really well, and I would highly recommend Arbor Brickworks to anyone. They were quick to call after we purchased the deal, and they came out to do an estimate. As we expected, our purchased deal wouldn't cover all of the expenses, and they gave us a fair estimate. heir prices were competitive - we had gotten other quotes previously and it was in-line with what we had quoted. We had some other house expenses come up, and Arbor Brickworks was very flexible with our payment, and it was much appreciated! The work was also great. They were thorough and repaired everything that needed to be.

I really needed work/flashing done on my roof which Arbor Brickworks does not do. My chimney does need work done and I was given a quote on that. However my main concern at the time was the flashing. If I decide to get the work done on the chimney in the future, I will consider Arbor Brickworks.

It was very difficult to reach this provider other than through Angie's List emails. It seems he works through a cell phone and has limited times that he can pick up his phone. My schedule is also limited so we continually played phone tag and that was to just set up an estimate appointment. After several calls that only went to his voice mail, I requested a refund through the Angie's list email website. He graciously accepted my request and told me to use the Big Deal site to transact the refund.

I was not happy. There are a lot of add-ons, which I thought was all-inclusive because we just need a loose step repair. The loose step turned into acid wash and it went way beyond total expectation. The work was wonderful but the nickel and diming to get it done was not I had in mind when I joined Angie’s List. I wouldn’t use them again, not without doing extra cost.

It was OK. They came out when they said they would come out. They did what they said they were going to do. The work is satisfactory to me for what I’ve seen. There are always a few things that you see that looks like they could have done a little better. I was not displeased nor 100% satisfied but they seemed to do what they said they were going to do. When they put the motor in, it does not match but that’s supposed to be expected because the motor was there for 25 years and now it’s a new motor. I would call them again if I had brick work to be done. Every day that they said they’ll be here, they were only few minutes late each time, 5 – 20 minutes. They’d call and they said they have traffic situation so you have to expect that. They were pretty professional. They seemed to care about what they are doing and they try to do everything that I ask for.
Description of Work: They did chimney repair and capping. They also replaced some bricks on the front porch that were broken or needed to be replaced, a little masonry work.

Taylor was very polite and professional and was great about calling to let me know what his schedule was and when he was on his way. Got a quote on Monday and the work was done on Friday and Saturday, with a stop by for a final wash on Sunday evening. These guys obviously are working 7 days a week. They replaced the slabs on top of the ledges on the chimney with new pieces that look much nicer and angled them so the rain runs off properly. I felt bad for the them because my yard has no trees and it was a very hot, sunny couple of days. But they didn't complain and were very friendly and upbeat the entire time. It was a pleasure having them around!

Thought price would be less than $300. When I saw Big Deal for $300 of tuck-pointing for $99, I bought it. Arbor Brickworks representative was on time and friendly, but quoted $800. He said, with my Big Deal coupon, it would only cost me $599. That evening, I call a local mason from add in the paper (30 years experience). He came out the next day and said it will only take him a couple hours. He said he would do the job for $100. Therefore, I'm asking for my money back from the Big Deal.
Description of Work: Have a small area (30 sq.ft.) of stone indoor that needs tuck-pointing only.

We are sorry to hear that your aren't satisfied with your experience and the quote given. The quote given was high because of the the distance traveled "60 miles" I directed your husband to speak with a local mason and that he could get it done much cheaper. Again we are sorry for your dissatisfaction and thank you for the opportunity to earn your business. Regards, Taylor Duerr Arbor Brickworks LLC 734 757 5496

First things first.... Taylor is the real deal! Unlike a lot of the "old dogs" out there that expect full price and just wont bother doing the smaller jobs for a hefty premium to make it worth their time, Taylor is genuine, honest, direct, and very thorough!!! This young man made time out of his schedule to get here the next day, drove nearly 80 miles round trip, and got started right away and was done early too! He was extremely friendly and very.... and I mean VERY affordable. That being said just because it was the best deal out there BY FAR.... there was NO scrimping on the quality. They were neat and cleaned up really good too. Taylor took the time to make me aware of some other things that I could do to improve general masonry details around my home such as adding a ready made cement step which would make our step up to the front porch easier. I said no thanks and that was it... no hard sell what so ever just a friendly recommendation and nothing more. Above all that what I truly appreciated is the fact that my boys (inquisitive as they are) were just staring out the front window just intently watching Taylor and team mate... I was in the kitchen making dinner and heard the boys laughing away.... So I walked out to the living room to see what was so funny. Taylor was out side making funny faces and just having fun with the boys instead of just ignoring them. Not that it would have been bad if he did nothing but he shared that he had a family and you can tell that it's not just a job to Taylor, this is his company and his passion and he puts his whole heart and a little extra into it and it shows! I would HIGHLY recommend Taylor and his company to anyone for their masonry needs!!! I will be using him again !!!!

Taylor called me within a very short time of my purchasing the Angies Deal. He was able to come out late that afternoon and take a look at the work to be performed. He took his time inspecting the problem areas and wrote up an estimate. The estimate was very detailed and thorough. It was more expensive than I had anticipated, even with the Angie's list Big deal so we are not moving forward at this time but I would not hesitate to use his services in the future should my plans change. He was very professional and his promptness and eagerness to help was much appreciated.

Arbor Brickworks crew came out to inspect the chimney. They tried to sell me a limestone cap for $2500 but I told them I just wanted the $299 coupon deal that they were running. They were fine with that. They sealed the space between the metal chimney and the concrete cap and then sealcoated the entire top of the chimney cap. Well worth the price because I didn't have to get up there and do it myself!

The provider called me within an hour of purchasing the Big Deal and offered to come out that day. He showed up on time and was very professional and left me with a quote. At the time I told him it was much higher than a quote my husband got in the fall and we would need to thing about it. I called him the next day to tell him it was more than we could afford at this time and he wanted to work with me but the price difference was too much. I was standing outside and this young man walked up to me and introduced himself as Taylor. He said he was in the neighborhood and noticed that the chimney was is disrepair, that the mortar and several bricks where protruding from the side of the chimney. I had not noticed this before as this was my aunts home and not mine. I explained to him that I was the executor of the estate but needed to talk to my mom who was the heir before any repairs could be done. Taylor was very respectful and explained how this damage could have been caused and what could happen if it was not repaired soon. I thanked him for his time and would get back with him. Later that day I spoke with my mom and she said yes call and have repairs done. Taylor came back the next day and did an evaluation and spoke with both of us and explained everything he was going to do and gave us the time frame he would need to do repairs. We are very tight on money with just paying off the funeral and explained this to him. He was very understanding and worked with us on the cost and what could be done on our budget. He arrived on the day to start and dropped off all his equipment and explained due to the snow storm it would be a few more days before he could start. We understood and explained I would be away then but mom would be here. He agreed to send me text pictures or videos of the progress, which he did as things were done. Taylor and his team were very polite and respectful to my mother while I was gone. When they needed to come in to use the utility sink in the basement for water they did so in a timely manner and didn't make a mess carrying the buckets back out. He completed the work on schedule and while he was repairing main chimney he found that the smaller chimney on the roof for the furnance was also in need of repair. Again we were tight on finances and he again worked with us on the price, He also repaired the small chimney and did a complete clean up. We decided to wait for a flew cover until a later time. Once we could afford it we called Taylor back to add flew cover. Taylor is just starting up his business and is a very ambitious man. He is very honest and knowledgeable about his profession. His team are all respectful and very polite. They all worked very hard and at times in the middle of a snow fall. I would definitely hire Taylor again and have already recommended him to family. Hire him and you won't be disappointed!!! Have a blessed day!
