F & H Painting

I think the flood of Angie's List customers stretched them a little thin. They did a good job, but it took a few return trips to get it all right. Now this may have been some miscommunication on both parts. The job did turn out good, not great, but good.

The gentleman, Joe, who power-washed my home arrived earlier than expected, but this was no problem for me.  He was ready to go and with just a bit of set up, began power-washing my vinyl-sided, two-story home.  He was very careful around my flower beds and didn't step on or crush any of my bedding plants.  Once he was finished, he put my hose back and took me around to view his work.  In addition, he showed me a couple places where my siding was loose and should be repaired. I was very pleased and happy to see the real color of my pale yellow siding for the first time (I just bought my home not quite a year ago)!  I would use F & H again for the same work.

We had a good experience with this company. They came out promptly and performed the service while we were at work. We would not have even known they were here except for our nice, clean siding. Even our neighbors noticed.

Tradesman arrived promptly, worked independently, cleaned up completely and left unobtrusively.

They were very prompt and they gave a fair price.  It was more expensive than I thought but overall, they were punctual and I never had one issue with them.  They did a double coat instead of a single coat.  They did the work that they said they were going to do.  They guaranteed the work and I had some issues with the paint, it looked like it was peeling and they came out and fixed it, it was not an issue.  I used them about a month later to do my daughter’s bedroom and it was perfect.  I referred them to my friends, they used them, and they were very pleased with them.

F&H Painting were real good. They taped up real nice and cleaned up nice. They were very timely and did a very good job. I'll be using them again.

After the follow-up cleaning (no-charge) I am very happy with F & H. In fact, I have talked with them about performing additional work at my home.

They were here on time but the estimate was much higher than expected so we chose not to have the house painted.

They did a great job! They never complained or charged me additional for the wall paper removal. They completed the work and I was impressed with the service.

They were here on time, worked quickly and efficiently and we are very satisfied with their work.   The painters were professional and good to work with.  Just an FYI, we got this as the 499. two painters for a day special on Angie's list - when we scheduled the work, we were told a day was 7 hours.

Construction work and painting was good.

I had to be out of town when the painters did the work so we could communicate by phone. The men were on time, cleaned up when they were finished and did the job i asked for. I would have liked more checking of the finished job as a couple of spouts were a little thin. All in all it was a good job.

Contacted F&H painting to quote external and internal painting.  Fred came out and quoted the exterior painting and refered a painter to do the interior painting.  Fred was on time for the quote and professional.  Once we chose F&H to do our external painting the powerwashing and prep was done in the promised time.  The painting and repair work was completed in the quoted time and was done in a professional manner.  Completely satisified with all work done.  Would recommend to family and friends that are looking for painting.  The person that was refered for the interior has also done great work and is also very professional.

I hired F & H Painting to paint my exterior and interior of my house. I wanted to make sure they caulked the exterior joints and cracks.  The house is a colonial and the exterior is approximately 1/4 wood that needed painting. I could not see the work they were doing outside but assumed they were doing a good job. They finished the exterior and started on the interior. That is when I saw how bad the work was. They couldn't paint a straight cut in line from the wall to the ceiling or to any wall that changed color. Very little if any prep work including patching nail holes etc... I complained and they brought in their "best" guy. He did no better. I can do better than they did, but I couldn't do all the work myself. I finally made them stop. I initially paid them about $2500 and told Fred I wasn't paying for the botched work they did on the interior. I had to hire another painter to redo their work. Fred demanded full payment. I told him there was no way I would pay for the interior, especially since I made them stop and they only did the basement and two or three other rooms. I repainted the basement myself and hired another painter to redo and finish their work.  After a lot of BS and STRESS, I finally agreed to pay him another $1400 just to get him out of my life!  I had just hired someone to put in some crown molding and F & H was to paint and caulk that.  The "caulking" they did on it separated from the wall and I have a lot of gaps between the molding and the wall.  I have to get it recaulked and painted again as well as the entire exterior.  I'm saving up for that but won't use them.

Thanks to Angies List, after seeing this review, Fred sent me a letter and said if I wanted, he would look over the job and do any exterior caulking and painting the house needed.

Update:  Fred has sent me two letters now complaining about my review.  He wants to send someone out to look over the exterior work.  He says I am exaggerating.  Well, I have a colonial and it is hard to reach without a tall ladder.  I am disabled and cannot climb a tall ladder, but I had my roof replaced last summer and the owner told me I needed caulking done (and no he doesn't do caulking so he wasn't trying to get some work).  I had to have an entire section repaired because it was rotting, that costs me an additional $400.00.  Also, F&H replaced some wood on my chimney that had rotted and that needs to be replaced - again.  Also, there is a section of the back of the house that I can reach without a ladder and I caulked and repaint that section myself because ants were getting in through the cracks that Fred said they caulked.  I can see the gaps in the joints all over the house that were suppose to have been caulked.  Fred says he cannot contact me, but my phone number has not changed.  I am not happy that Angies List has given them my personal information and I am now being harrassed by this guy. 
Note to Fred - owner of F & H Painting.  I have seen your work, I have had a lot of it repaired or replaced or repainted.  I have many receipts that show your work had to be redone.  I was not ever happy with your work, I did not want to pay you as much as I did, I just wanted you out of my house!  Quit sending me letters saying that I am exaggerating or saying anything is untrue.  I paid you a lot of money and I paid a lot of money to redo what you did.  I do not want your "quality control representative" to come to my house.  Once again I paid you a lot of money to get you out of my house.  If you did such a "great job on the exterior" that you say you did, how come so much of your exterior work had or has to be repaired or replaced or repainted in less than 4 years?

The guys were on time and were often in their work. They were both hand workers and went the extra mile to make sure the job was done right.

It all started out well.  Fred was friendly and responsive to my e-mails and I thought the price was fair.  Everything went downhill from there.

1. Most egregiously of all they painted ALL of my windows SHUT.  I could not open ANY of them after they had been painted.  Had they never painted wood windows before? As a layperson with common sense, even I know there are steps you have to take to ensure that doesn't happen.

2. All of the exterior doors, and my two dormer windows, had a half-inch margin around them of my old green paint, since the doors were closed when they were painted.  I still can't figure out why it didn't occur to anyone to tell me I should probably be home when they paint the doors, so I could OPEN them so they could be painted properly.  I was surprised that no one thought of this beforehand. Seems like that would be a pretty standard consideration when painting doors.  I wish I could attach a photo because it's unbelievable.

3. They painted the outside of my storm doors, but not the inside.

4.  And last but not least, they did not stain the railing of my deck because we were told it is "not part of the deck"  (that's an exact quote from one of the painters, when queried by my husband as to why the railing was not stained).  That was quite possibly one of the most ridiculous things I'd ever heard.

I was very upset, and sent Fred an e-mail detailing the above.  To his credit, he responded right away and said he would take care of the issues.  I also called the office and explained the situation.  I was struck by the fact that no one ever actually said the words "I'm sorry" (I even rechecked all of my old e-mails to make sure I didn't miss it). 

We scheduled a time for someone to come out and unstick my windows and stain the railing.  To add insult to injury, THEY WERE A NO-SHOW!  No one even bothered to call me to tell me they weren't going to come.  Again, no apology. 

At that point I was totally regretting that I ever hired this company. 

We finally arranged a time for one of their guys to come and fix the doors, stain the railing.  They unstuck most of my windows. 

I could not in good conscience recommend this company.  Total nightmare. 

Very good.  Although they seemed a little disorganized at the point between the power washing and the actual painting, it still was a good job and there wasn't any inconvenience to us.

They were prompt with the estimate (gave it to me right after looking at the house). they were here on time every time. They made appointments and kept them. the crew was top notch courteous and listened. They told me what they needed from me and what they didn't need from me. They cleaned up after the job. They forgot to put the house numbers back up and came back to do that. no hassles.

I have accepted their quote but they haven’t started the work yet. I haven’t heard from them yet. Their price was competitive. They were punctual while giving the quote. They presented the quote on a paper. They showed me pictures of other job they had done. They are very professional. I would use them again in the future depending on how they do the work.
