Job went very well. Had three different companies quote the job. Alpine's quote was in the middle. Not the least expensive, but not the most expensive. Was impressed with Joe's knowledge, and insite into what may have caused the deterioration of the old roof (improper ventilation). He went up on the roof to assess the job, which some one of the other companies that quoted did not do.. Job was quoted in late April, and Joe told me that they would do the work in June when the weather was warm and dry. They showed up on schedule with all the necessary equipment. Had a crew of four people, and were very organized. Placed tarpaulins around to protect the landscape, and cleaned the area as they worked. Had not originally planned to replace the Gutters, but after discussion with Joe, I had them install an oversize gutter on the front of the house, and oversize downspouts with the new gutters on the rear to carry the water away. They also removed some decking to verify the air flow from the eave vents, and found that it was inadequate and blocked. As a result, they removed a lot of lower decking, installed new ventilation.. This resulted in additional cost to the original estimate, but I believe was well worth it. As Joe said, putting on a new roof with poor ventilation would result in premature failure of the roof, and would possibly void the roof warranty. Job took three days to complete. Roof looks fantastic. The gutter were installed by a subcontractor to Alpine, which Alpine Contacted. This company, called Allied Gutter did an excellent job. The followed the instructions Joe had provided to the letter. Showed up in the afternoon, fabricated the gutters onsite, installed them, then walked me around the house to show me what they had done. All in all a great experience.
Description of Work: Removed existing shingles, underlayment, gutters, drip edge, and old roof vents from my roof. The roof size was 35 squares. Installed new roof covering, including new roof decking in a few spots to which had water damage, new drip edge, new underlayment, new top of the line shingles, and a new ridge vent on the entire roof.
Why Alpine was hired: Out of 4-5 roofing companies we looked at, Joe proved to be the most knowledgeable and could explain in detail both what work would be done and why it was necessary. His prices were competitive, and we weren't pressured to make a decision or choose his company. A home in our sub recently done by Alpine also looked great. Project Duration: ~4 days (Periodic rain delays). Each day a section was completed to minimize any exposure of the attic to the elements. Setup/Cleanup: A waste container along with all materials was delivered to our home the day before they began, kept neatly on one half of the driveway. Before work started on any section of the roof, plywood was placed vertically in front of all doors, windows, etc. to protect from any falling objects. Tarps were also used to collect any debris. Overall very impressed by the cleanup. Roofers: Joe's crew arrived promptly every morning, answered any questions we had, and explained what work they planned to complete. They seemed as knowledgeable as Joe, offered bits of advice/suggestions, and shared pictures of the work being done. Completed Project: The finished project looks great, and we've received multiple comments from friends & neighbors. I am also confident the work was done to a high level of quality and the right materials were used. No one gets excited over needing a new roof, but we were surprised how well the end result looks.
Description of Work: Complete roof replacement - new shingles & decking - new fascia boards & overhangs - new gutters - new skylights - attic/roof ventilation improvements.

Description of Work: This company came to my home and replaced my entire roof. By this, I mean he replaced all the plywood sheeting, and shingles. He aso installed extra insulation and a product called Ice Shield to give us extra protection from future leakage during heavy rains, and snowstorms. Overall, I thought they did a quality job, and were very courteous whenever there were any questions, or problems that arose over the course of the job.

Showed up to look at the problem within a day. Told me what would be involved and what would be the best course of action. The longest delay was the order process of the new door. When it was received, his people came out on the weekend. Removed the old siding. Removed the old door , replaced a section of damaged flooring, and installed a new door. They then covered the area around the new door with Tyvek, which was never installed when the house was built. It took about a week for them to order new siding to match the old. They then showed up on a Saturday and installed the new siding in a few hours. Old door was 13 years old. New one is much more energy efficient and looks great.

They removed siding from a section of the back wall of the house. Removed an old patio door that was letting water enter the house and rot a portion of the den floor. They removed the rotted section of flooring, installed new floor material, and installed a new Andersen patio door. They installed new siding on the rear wall due to the condition of the old siding. | |Joe Harrison, the owner showed up within a day of my call to look at the area in question . Determined that the best course of action was to install a new door rather than work with the old door to try and find where it was leaking. ( bowed or cracked frame), since the door was 14 years old. The new one is much more energy efficient. The longest delay of a few weeks was the time it took to order and receive the door, and obtain new siding that was a color match to the old. | |Installation of the door took one morning, and the installation of the new siding took another morning. | |Did a good job.

When meeting with Joe (owner) for the first time he was very knowledgeable and thorough. He explained everything that needed to be done and why. He was very polite and straight forward. When his crew arrived the first day to begin work, again they were prompt, very polite, and good to work with. The crew did a great job of keeping the area clean when they left each day and worked very quickly and professionally. I was informed of all changes or additional work that needed to be done on site. Overall, Alpine Roofing did a fantastic job. The price was a little higher than competitors, but I guess you get what you pay for. Job well done.

Asked him to prepare a quote for siding repair, gutter replacement, and paint on my home. Strung me along for three days before (1) admitting that he did not come to look at the job as promised (2) he was too busy to take on any more work for at least two months (3) wanted to know what his competitors thought the job required.

Owner of Alpine Roofing, Joe Harrison, was very responsive in all aspects of the quoting process. He did an excellent job in taking the time to answer questions and was prompt with followup phone calls. Though I contracted the business to another company with a lower bid, I would absolutely quote Alpine Roofing again for any future home improvements.

I waited around all day on Sunday for the person from Alpine Roofing to come and repair my roof. No one showed and no one called. On Monday, I called Joe Harrison's cell phone and left a message asking him to return my call. Joe did not return my call. On Tuesday, I called Joe Harrison's cell phone again and left a message. He finally returned my call and I asked him what was going on. He told me that his people were totally swamped with work and he would not be able to get anyone out to my house for two weeks. I asked what happened to Sunday, as he was going to send someone out. He said he did, but they never got done with the first job. I said a phone call would have been nice and I should not have to chase him down. He again said his guys were swamped working 7 days per week. I replied that I would find someone else and Alpine Roofing does not need my business. Joe Harrison replied, "...You're right, we don't" and he hung up on me. Real professional.
Description of Work: I called Alpine Roofing to give me an estimate on a repair for a leak I have. The owner, Joe Harrison called me on Saturday and stated that he would have one of his guys come out on Sunday to perform the repair. I told him that would be good.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. There seems to be a misunderstanding regarding this repair and for that I opologize. I told [member name removed] I would call him before we would send someone out and that we were extremly busy. We were working seven days a week trying to keep up with demands following heavy rains and wind storms. I did speak to [member name removed] either on Monday or Tuesday and explained to him that I was supposed to call before heading to his house and he became angry. He told me he waited for me all day to wich I replied he should not have because we were to call before heading out; but he did not like the answer I gave him. He became angry and I ended the phone call before things got worse. I hope this helps, we try to do the best job we can for all our customers new and existing. This was not a roof we installed originally but a roof another contractor installed. I apologize for any inconvience this may have caused. Sincerly Joe Harrison Alpine Roofing Complete

Representative arrived on time and was courteous. After inspecting the roof, told me he was going to replace the roof vent. He never went into the attic to see from the inside where light, and also water, were coming in. After he said the repair was complete, I went into the attic to look at the repair from the inside. There was still significant light coming in from around the vent and I did not consider the leak repaired. I told the representative this and he went back up on the roof while I was in the attic directing him where the light was still coming in. The leaks were patched. I was told in the estimate that there would be two representatives coming to the job, not one. There was not change in the price I was charged to reflect only one representative on the job instead of two. I was also told in the estimate that they would need a lift truck to access the roof, but they didn't use that either. I should not have had to go into the attic to help him with the repair.

We did in fact install the roof and were able to get additional money from insurance toward wood replacement. A racoon had tore up the chimney and a water leak caused several sheets of plywood to get wet. Thanks for the work and the report. Joe Alpine Roofing

They did a really good job. They were neat and clean and worked everyday from early till late. They also worked on the weekend because it was supposed to rain on a Monday. They did everything they said they were going to do and did it when they said they were going to do it. I would just tell others not to pay them all the money until they fix all the complaints. I needed another repair and it took 8 months to get it done. There was part of a trim that wasn’t done right and it took me that long to get them fix it. I feel like their price was much expensive but I don’t know how much anybody else charges but they did a lot of work too. Except for that one issue, they did it exactly like they said they were going to do.

I'm very happy with the results. I got at least five quotes. Joe was the only one interested in doing a complete inspection before the quote, including the main attic. Some quotes were drive-by's which came in low and would have reproduced the problems that already existed on my house unless the quotes were amended to make the job complete. Alpine wasn't the cheapest but they weren't the most expensive either. Joe took the the time to explain everything he thought should be done. He was responsive to my needs throughout the job. The job took a few days due to weather problems, but when it was done it looked good and they cleaned everything up. I didn't have to do any work on the outside to make it look like I wanted. I would hire them again for other exterior house upgrades.

Because I plan to remain in this house for 10-15 years, I made choices based on the long-term outlook for the roof. The original plywood was not water-damaged, however it was old, dried out and starting to separate a little. We could have nailed new shingles into the old plywood but it didn't look like it was going to last for as long as I wanted so we went with the option of replacing the entire roof deck. This added a lot of cost but it didn't make sense to pay all that money for new shingles and have the base of the roof fail later on. I selected Alpine Roofing because I appreciated Joe Harrison's attention to detail. He spent a good bit of time explaining some of the aspects of the roofing job. We went into the attic to look at some things during the quote. Also, he used a product I had not seen before he did my parent's roof last fall -- the "Edge Vent" from Air Vent Inc. This is an intake vent that runs around the perimeter of the roof, just above the gutters and under the shingles and is barely visible. It pulls air into the attic space so it can flow out the exhaust vents at the top of the peak. (My soffit vents were minimal.) I thought it was a very innovative product and should help reduce the heat build-up in the attic space. He installed baffles on the underside of the OSB to help direct the airflow up to the vents in the roof peak. And he did a nice job of re-flashing the two chimneys which had a lot of tar plastered around the base from some old leaks. This job took longer than I originally expected. First, the decision to replace the roof deck took it from a 2-day job to a 4-day job. Second, we had the absolute worst luck with the weather. Driving rain and high winds. In a 10-day stretch, there were only 5 dry days, one of which was a holiday. So I had all the mess in the yard for a week and a half. Normally May weather is nowhere near this bad. However once everything was done and all the construction debris removed, the roof and gutters looked great. I should note that I called Joe several times during the timeframe of the job mostly because of the rain delays and he was courteous each time.
Description of Work: My House: 1969 3-bedroom brick ranch with greatroom. The roof had the original 3/8" plywood deck and 2 layers of shingles The Job Included: Tear off shingles, replace entire plywood deck, used CertainTeed Landmark 30-yr architectural shingles Replaced the gutters Create external vents for 2 bathroom exhaust fans, add additional intake and exhaust vents New flashing around both chimneys The job included the usual building code requirements for ice/water guard, 15# felt paper, etc. We did pull a permit for the job from the city of Sterling Heights There were no roof leaks at the time of replacement, but the shingles were starting to look bad and I spent a fair amount of time caulking leaky gutters and trying to re-attach gutter nails that had come loose. Cost Breakdown: Tear off and replace shingles $7,500 Remove/replace gutters: $850 Replaced original plywood roof deck with 1/5" OSB: $4,000
