Auto Service, Auto Body Work
$370
hen I left the shop my brakes were no better than when I walked in the place six hours earlier. Ron Mills did a whole lot of work on my car that never needed to be done.
Body Works also has a shop that works on car repairs, called "Automotive Mechanical Repair" and the shop is also run by Rick Pikaart who owns "Body Works". Ron Mills works for Rick Pikaart in the auto shop. I have had Ron do a small job for me here and there over the last year or so, and was not unhappy with this work and he seemed like a really nice guy.
However, on this day I had brought my car in for a brake job at around 10:00 am. My brakes were working, but not very well. I could put the brake pedal all the way to the floor and the car would stop but not nearly as quickly as it does when the brakes are fully operational. Ron gave me an estimate of about $200 - $250.00 but said he would not know for sure until he got in there for the repairs. I agreed.
When he was done and getting ready to pump the brakes back up he came out and told me the repairs were going to be quite a bit more than he had thought. He gave me a price of $365.00 - $370.00. I was suprised, having had many brake jobs on many different cars over my lifetime... And having only paid this sort of cash out for big jobs like master cylinders or all four brakes being worked on.
He went back out to pump up the brakes and there was a problem. He couldn't get them pumped up properly. He said "the only thing it could be was the ABS system" and that he would get back to me with a quote (which when I went back to him later
the quote was for an additional $ 200.00).
He said he could not finish that day, as it was about 4:00 pm already, and he would not have time to get the parts much less fix it that day, so I drove my car home, $360.00 poorer and with absolutely no improvement in the brakes at all.
He DID agree to let me pay my bill off later. That was really nice of them, actually, but nothing else about the experience was good.
And when I did pay the bill up, they charge me a late fee! WOW!!! What service!
I used to drive truck, and I know some folks who hate their ABS brake system and actually disable them. I may be female, but I
am not completely uneducated about cars, and I was extremely suspect.
I took my car to a few other places, called some friends. Later I had the master cylinder replaced by another mechanic I know and the brakes have never worked better.
