Description of Work: The $2199 Big Deal that quickly becomes the $3000 Big Deal! I purchased the $2199 3-Ton Trane High-Efficiency Air Conditioner Big Deal back in September of this year. The $2199 was advertised as the installed price, however when the salesman arrived to provide the estimate, the $2199 deal quickly became closer to $3000 with the additional fee's. Additional costs he explained: 1) $475 for permits 2) $300 for new line set 3) $150 for WIP (electrical line) 4) $150 for new A/C pad. |I contacted the township where I live and they informed me that two permits are required to install the A/C unit. 1) A/C Permit - $30 2) Electrical - $25. |I negotiated some of these "add-on" costs and was able to get the job completed for just more than $2500. |Overall, Shane did a very nice job on the install, however because of their pricing tactics I would not use their services again.

Dear valued customer, we apologize you feel this way about our pricing. The big deal that was offered states on the deal itself before purchasing, the price only includes the coil and the condenser. Any additional materials that may be needed are an additional charge which is why we offer a free at home estimate before the purchase of the deal. You did not get a new line set so you were not charged for that, instead we purged your lines at no additional cost. Our prices for permits are different than the city because we also charge for process and handling of the paperwork. Your total job cost was $2524, which was an additional $325 for the permits and inspections, condenser pad and new whip. Description of Work: Had "no heat" condition and Harriman was able to come out that day. Furnace is a three year old, high efficiency model. The tech was punctual and professional but required I agree to a price before he proceeded. Perhaps that is SOP these days and, due to the circumstances, I agreed. As I suspected, the problem was a clogged vent tube and was quickly fixed. Problem returned two days later but, suspecting the same problem, I was able to clear that tube myself. I give them passing marks for Responsiveness, Punctuality and Professionalism but failing marks for Price ($200 up-front) & Quality (apparently only checked one tube).

Because your unit did not need the refrigerant we noted your record to add the refrigerant next year. The big deal that came out 1 week after your job was completed did not include this offer. You purchased your big deal through Angies List and not thru Harriman. When a job is completed you can not request a refund to buy a better deal. We apologize you feel angry about the price difference, but as explained, our specials change throughout the season. The technician who came out to your home noticed your unit has sunk into the ground and the compressor was being corroded with dirt and water. You then stated you would take care of lifting the unit out of the ground and call us back for a free estimate on your repairs or a new system. We have not heard back from you.
