The radon pump that was installed lasted 8 months before stopping. I called Air Quality Control, and they said they it was under warranty, however, I'd have to pay $149 "service fee" for installing the new pump. I am furious. The service manager told me that the pump is not "theirs"...and they don't back the product, they just install it...and no matter what, I'd have to pay the $149 fee.
I am very disappointed that after only 8 months I have to pay another $149 for a new pump install. A.Q.C. came out and in about 20 minutes of work installed a new pump, and  collected their $149.
Customer service is lost with this company. I really wish I would've done my homework and contacted another company. After asking neighbors and other companies who install these systems, it appears that I was taken advantage of. This company has no regard for the customer. It was an expensive lesson I learned. I don't want any other home owners to get ripped off by this company. If you are in the market for a radon mitigation system, do your homework....read all the reviews on this company, as they are not very favorable at all, for a reason.

We bought our house in November with a Radon Mitigation System installed from SWAT Environmental (formerly Air Quality Control). The unit has a PVC Pipe that exhausts up the side of the house and up to the roof level.  The unit became detached at one of the the collared areas over the past week.  With the unit being so new I called the number and requested service.  I was told that there would be a $149 service fee if it was not an installation problem.  The tech came out and reattached the unit and tightened every clamp, which many needed a fair amount of tightening.  Then he gave me an invoice for $149.  I called the service manager "James" and reminded him of our conversation about the improper installation and the fee being waived.  He said that he would need to call me back.  After a long delay I called him back and he informed me I would have to pay the fee.  I asked him how they could know that it wasn't properly installed if the tech was able to tighten it so much more?  He said he would have to check with a "Main Service Technician" and get back with me.  I'm still waiting, but so far I fee that this company is unwilling to stand behind their work.  After reviewing information from the Better Business Bureau, my opinion is quickly forming that this is a horrible company.  I am going to contact the BBB, and both Realtors involved in our transaction to let them know they should no longer recommend this company.  This is a predatory business with a motto of "Our Fault, YOU PAY".  Very unhappy.

I called AQC and scheduled them to install a radon-reduction system in my home. The installer came to my house on the specified day and installed the system. The installation was very neatly and professionally done, and the installer was a nice, personable guy who explained the system to me, told me how to read the gauge and make sure it was working, and left me a couple of test kits so I could test the radon levels after the system had been working in my home for a few weeks.

Thirteen days later I noticed that the system was no longer operating. I called AQC. They told me to unplug it for 24 hours and call them back if it didn't work when I plugged it back in. It did not, so I called again. They said that my fan was under warranty, but that I would have to pay a $149 service fee to have someone come out and put in a new one.

I explained that I felt that this was unfair given that I had just paid nearly $800 for this system, and it had not even worked for two weeks! I asked to speak to a manager, but the person I was speaking to on the phone said one could not come to the phone at the moment. I asked for a manager to call me back. No manager returned my call, and no manager could come to the phone when I called back again a few days later.

On 9/30/2011, after waiting a week to see whether a manager would call me to resolve this problem, I filed a complaint with the BBB of Detroit & Eastern Michigan. On or about 10/21/2011, after receiving my complaint from the BBB, AQC called me and scheduled my FREE service call, and another friendly installer came and replaced the fan in my system on 10/31/2011, and it has since been working properly.

I would comment on the effectiveness of this system, but because of the long wait for complaint resolution with the BBB, this system STILL hasn't been operating for two uninterrupted weeks in my home, so I haven't been able to do a followup radon test yet. *sigh* However, if the radon test is not favorable, I will update this report further.

This company does *not( stand behind their product, and they will *not* willingly fix their systems without a $149 fee, even if it's less than 30 days old! I think that is reprehensible. One should not have to file a complaint with the BBB to get service on a brand-new installation!

I couldn't find this company on Angie's List before contracting their services because they're located in Lansing/Ann Arbor, but they do advertise and do work in the Portage/Kalamazoo area. I *should* have looked this company up elsewhere online before I hired them. There are many reviews around the internet telling of terrible service from this company. I would never hire them again, and I would never recommend them to a friend.

The system was installed as an item in the purchase contract of the home. The system did not look anything like my previous one so I had the radon level checked. The average of the 48-hour test was over 6.4. They did not mitigate the crawl space, used the incorrect caulk to seal the basement floor, did not obtain a Worthington permit as required for the electrical work. The system sucked water into the pipe so I had to shut it off, the pipe diameter was incorrect according to another provider. The pipe sticks out at a 45 or so degree angle from the roof instead of straight up. When I called about the water in the pipe I was told to turn it off for a couple of days. Water even leaks into my basement from the hole they sealed incorrectly. I am in the process of resolving this issue.

System installed on time, but even after 3 revisions and 3 months they have not been able to reduce the radon level to the recommended and guaranteed level. Have had poor communication with us and missed some appointments. Poor communication within the company.
