Excellent service and tightly sealed house using 48 tubes of caulk.  They were willing to answer all questions and take care of our concerns.  The work is warranted and they will be back in the fall to remove the doors.  Certainly a pleasant experience.

"Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this nice review! We don't advertise it, but we are currently recycling all of our empty caulk tubes and cardboard boxes - so those 48 tubes did not end up in a landfill. Anyway - I will certainly pass along your kind words to my team."

The service was fine since I haven't seen anything.  I would say that the price seems a little high.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to both thank you for your business and respond to your feedback. We review our pricing each year to ensure that it is competitive with the market and reflect a premium for top quality service. One of our goals is to provide the best customer service and utilize equipment that is both safe and of good quality. Our business requires working at heights with close contact with bats, wasps and bees. This hazard cannot be underestimated. That said, we are not looking to be the lowest cost company (but rather the best). Being the best in the bat removal business is of highest importance to our customers. Our pricing reflects business costs related to: marketing, advertising, support staff, technicians, sales manager, liability insurance, workers compensation insurance, equipment, supplies, training, trucks, vehicle maintenance, and fuel. We can not discount the fact that our business is extremely seasonal, with approximately 20% of our business occurring during the month of August alone. Despite this fact, we maintain our staff year round to provide stability to their families – and ambitious, hard working and experienced staff to our customers. We do provide a 1 year service agreement with our bat exclusions – so that you will not incur further costs related to bats entering your home. If you see bats inside or hear the typical scratching sounds, give us a call for a re-inspection at no cost. If you believe that we missed a spot, please give us a call. I believe that our pricing is fair for the level of service that our customers expect. I appreciate your feedback regarding our business."

Did an extremely through walkthrough of house and exterior of house. Very detailed assessment of recommended services, with explanations as to why for each service. Very professional and knowledgable. Answered our questions about bat behavior, too, which was nice. Will be using them to perform recommended work. Only reason we haven't yet is we have a new baby and have been distracted.

They suspected bats in the attic based on the description of the problem.  However, squirrels were found instead. They could not treat that problem at this time, so referral to another company was made.  They promptly refunded the fee for the inspection.
Representatives were knowledgeable and professional, and I would not hesitate to call them again (although currently they are only dealing with problems caused by bats or mice).
Response from CRITTER CATCHERS, INC.
"Thank you for reviewing our team. Similar to a doctor's office, we do not always accept new customers that have various wildlife problems. In order to be successful in the wildlife trapping business, a smaller territory is necessary - or a lot of manpower. This is due to the immediate need to pickup animal captures on a daily basis - it can add a lot of pressure to a demanding schedule. While we do have ample manpower, we are very focused on our specialty of bat removal and mice control which allows for a larger territory. Through the description on the phone, we initially thought that you had a bat problem. Upon inspection of your home, we discovered a different critter problem...and referred you to another company (and returned your money). Upon reflection, we wish that we would have serviced your account directly because it was within our trapping territory. We have reviewed our internal policies with our team, based upon this experience."

"Thank you for reviewing our service. Most customers discover that our Prevent-A-Mouse program is a deal. The initial set up is $95 as you describe and includes bait stations and attic treatment as necessary. Subsequent treatments are optional and are only $65. If you complete 3 replenishment within the year, we will waive our service charge the following year. We do not lock you into a contract where there are requirements to have replenishment's, which adds a lot of flexibility."

I had a critter of some sort in my attic.  A gentleman came out to evaluate the situation and saw a raccoon.   This company was not able to take care of raccoons at this time and quickly recommended another removal service.
The gentleman that came out was very courteous and arrived within the window time frame with a call ahead of time as promised and the lady that originally took my call even though it was later in the evening was very friendly.
Seemed like a very good company that just weren't able to solve my issue so there was no charge which I appreciated.

"Thank you for the feedback. There are occasions where a suspected bat or mice problem is something different. In this case, we found raccoons and your location was out of our service areas for this service. In this case, we did not charge you for our inspection and referred you to a service that would be a better fit."

"Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our organization. Our Prevent-A-Mouse program is a very competitive program for controlling mice in the house. Success in the program requires periodic maintenance and can vary house to house. Customers that complete the initial setup and a minimum of 3 replenishments, in a 12-month period, can have the service charge waived the following second consecutive year! There is no obligation to have these followup visits, so the program is flexible to suite the needs of a variety of customers. Some homes require one visit per year to be successful - and other homes require six visits."

I have not seen bats after.
Response from CRITTER CATCHERS, INC.
"Thank you for the positive review. Do not forget that your service agreement is active until July 2014. Our service agreement requires teamwork, so please give us a call if you suspect bat activity in your home (such as scratching noise). We need you to be aware of your home and report any bat related activity inside the home. Having a bat enter a home should be as rare of an occurrence as having a bird enter the home. So if you discover a bat inside, we want you to call us for a re-inspection, so we can solve the problem. After the service agreement expires, we do have a maintenance program that is of interest to some people. You have the option to continue service with Critter Catchers over multiple years at an affordable rate. This extends our service agreement for as long as you remain in the annual program. You can remain in the program and have a bat-free home for 1, 5, 10, or 20+ years. All you have to do is renew the maintenance program each year. The program includes a written inspection of the home at the time of renewal. Additionally, we will touch up the work that was completed during the initial year, as needed. Additionally, we inspect for new cracks that could have formed during the year and look for any new bat activity. If there are bats entering the home, we redo the exclusion process with the installation of the one-way bat valves. The goal is to find the cracks before a new colony of bats uncovers the new point of entry - and keep them out of your home."

Also I had asked if they could just do the first part of a two phase job because I could easily do the remaining part of the project myself (Caulking). They said No, it was all or nothing for the project. That said, they were vey nice and courteous. They did not use any high pressure sales or any less disireable sales approach. I cannot find any fault with the work performed becasue they did not do any, just the pricicng. I did however pay $150 for their evaluation. There are NO free estimates in their line of biz.
Response from CRITTER CATCHERS, INC.
"Thank you for the feedback. Our prices reflect many different facets of the project. The typical job requires working at heights, on steep rooflines and frequently in close contact with both wasps and the bats. Additionally, we provide a 1 year service agreement. During the agreement period, if you experience bat activity inside your home (post eviction), we will return to your home and take necessary measures using caulk, foam, or screen to ensure the bats are properly evicted for no added cost. Our service agreement covers omissions - our job is to get the bats evicted. This is in sharp contrast to others that only guarantee their repairs. Our service agreement does not make sense if a customer is responsible for a part of the job. How would we distinguish if we missed something...or you did? This is why we provide a quote to complete the entire project - or nothing. We want you to be another happy bat free customer. Other companies that only guarantee the repairs that they make might be a better fit for your scenario. However, what if you pay for the repairs that are identified, but bats remain? Finding the remaining entry points can be challenging. Historically, our technicians stay with the company for a long time. They gain a lot of experience servicing hundreds of homes each season. It is a demanding job that includes working at heights, and we pay the team well. For these reasons, you will see that our prices are reasonable when comparison shopping for the same level of service. As you describe, we do not use any high pressure or less desirable sales practices. It is stressful having bats in the house and we figure that you need someone that can provide an accurate assessment and have a high degree of professionalism. We frequently carry a backlog of work, so we just want you to have accurate information to make an educated decision."

"Thank you for the compliments about our technician. Our team members have been with us for awhile and have experience. We specialize in Bat and Mice control. Additionally, we treated the attic for mice using rodenticide, and set 6 bait stations as part of our Prevent-A-Mouse program. Our Prevent-A-Mouse program is a deal and periodic replenishments/visits are only $65. There is no obligation to continue, which provides flexibility to you. Thank you again! They checked for bats, did the exclusion with bat tubes, and finished up caulking.  People who came knew what they were doing and came as promised.  I am quite far from Ortonville so they waited to get others in my area; very reasonable.  They did a great job of caulking all of the possible bat entrances.  When some caulking fell out after they removed the tubes (too wide of a crack), they came immediately to remedy the situation.  They seem very responsive to issues.  My bats are gone and my house is sealed up to prevent them returning.

Just received the estimate from the they did not do the work, went with another company that had great reviews and much less price.
Response from CRITTER CATCHERS, INC.
"Hiring a service is much different than purchasing a product such as a refrigerator. When you purchase a commodity project, price is the most important differencing factor. When you purchase a service, you need to consider other aspects: experience, proper licensing, adequate liability insurance, workers compensation insurance, employee, credibility of the company, training of staff, quality of equipment, type of repair materials, ability to honor warranty, and number of years in business. Your home was a custom home that was approximately 4,500 square feet. We quoted $1850 due to the complexity of the home and the need to have two technicians work with the 3 story ladders. The quote was very competitive when you compare us to other companies with similar experience and level of service. Customers that choose our company understand the importance of an educated and experienced team. Our goal is not to be the cheapest company, but rather, to provide the best service experience and solve the problem. Additionally, we carry workers compensation insurance and liability insurance. This differentiates us from many of the 1-man and a pickup truck type operators that can not afford the insurance. Lack of insurance puts your assets at risk, especially if there is an injury. Experience goes a long way to save money in the long run. Frequently, we do bid on work where another contractor was unsuccessful at evicting bats from a home. Bats only need a gap of 1/4 inch width to gain entry. If you evict them from one location, they will actively search for a new entry point into your home. You may be able to locate a contractor that will seal off a portion of your home for a cheap rate, but you can fully expect that the bats will fly around to a different spot to get inside. For these reasons, it is prudent to research any service company that you hire. I urge you to visit our website and use the "investigate contractors" tools to identify the company that is the best fit for you."

My first call was on a Sunday evening and someone actually answered the phone. Their representative was informative, courteous and extremely helpful!
They fit me in to a small window of time they had available the next day and when the crew showed up they went right to work. They provided a full, detailed estimate and covered all of the services the estimate would cover.
After arriving on the scheduled date the team went right at it and sealed my house up entirely and installed bat doors in four different locations. Recommendations were provided for re-sealing certain areas that have been scheduled for some future updates and gladly offered to come back and seal them up (at an additional cost of course) if i preferred.
All in all it was a pleasure to deal with this company. Professional, courteous, detail-oriented, performed all the work as promised. They offered several different payment options as well and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

The guys who did the work are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. I'm confident that they know what they're doing when it comes to bats.
I am very dissatisfied, however, with how the business side of Critter Catchers is managed and the caulking that was done on our house.  I want to be clear -- Critter Catchers was very responsive to our initial call and got someone out the same day (that was luck; I seem to remember that someone cancelled). That responsiveness was a major factor in why we hired them.
It was after we agreed to a bat exclusion that scheduling the work and getting our questions answered became a headache. A few examples...
Our initial service call was in February. Because winter weather returned, we knew we would have to wait until the start of spring before the actual exclusion would be done. We expected Critter Catchers to call and schedule that work. As we learned after the fact, that's not how they work. They assume they can come ANYTIME that weather permits. They showed up randomly on a Sunday in April with a 10 minute call to forewarn us. I'm sorry, but that's entirely unacceptable. What if we had other work scheduled? What if we were having a Sunday barbecue party? If you try to discuss this with the customer service people on the phone, they're quick to say "our work is weather dependent" - as though that gives them the right to show up whenever they please. That's pretty ridiculous in this age of being able to get 5 or 10 day weather forecasts. Certainly none of our other weather-dependent contractors (air conditioning, painters, etc.) have shown up out of the blue - especially when we haven't heard from them in two months.
We also had problems when we tried to discuss some concerns we had about the caulking that would be done. We live in a 90 year old house and had some gaps that seemed too big to caulk. We were also concerned that caulking would interfere with a house painting job we were planning. We expressed these concerns upfront and said we wanted to talk to the technicians before they proceeded with the work. This request was ignored. The crew just showed up on the Sunday in April and we had to turn them away. When we tried to discuss our concerns on the phone, we were met with resistance. As is usually the case when we have had to call Critter Catchers, the person answering the phone is quick to cut us off/talk over us. I hadn't even finished explaining what our concerns were, and the person on the phone jumped "I know our technician looks young, but trust me he's been doing this for X years." The age of the technician was never my concern! But the person on the phone seemed incapable of just listening. Eventually after a lot of back and forth we were able to schedule a time for the technicians to come out and discuss the caulking. I'm sure the customer service person means well and is just trying to persuade us that everything will be okay. But that kind of pushiness is taxing and makes the whole customer service experience a whole lot less enjoyable. When the technicians came to discuss the caulking, they did a sample line along our chimney. It looked fine, so we approved the work. Unfortunately, a lot of the caulking on our house looks nothing like that sample line. In many places, it's applied in excess, and often not in a clean straight line. This is now causing problems for us because we have an uneven surface for painting our siding and contrasting trim. Critter Catchers also used caulk on seams that didn't need it. They'll undoubtedly disagree with me on this, but trust me, there are seams that had no holes (and yes, I understand that bats can get into a space as small as 3/8" if not smaller).  They also used large amounts of caulk to tack mesh to our BRAND NEW ROOF around gaps by the gutters.  I understand that the mesh was necessary, but the heavily applied caulk really degrades the look of our roofline and now we're having trouble getting it completely off our shingles.
What really irks me about the job though, is that their application breaks the number one rule of caulking: you start with a clean surface. You don't caulk flaking paint. If it's flaking, you scrape it away first. I'm also baffled as to why they could not have hidden much of the caulking inside the gaps instead of letting it sit on top of the gap where it's more visible. Critter Catchers will say "It's paintable!" Yeah, sort of. It doesn't matter if the caulk is unevenly applied... how can we create a clean paint line on top of that?  Also, for a professional look, some of the holes they filled should be been done with epoxy, not caulk.  It's far preferable to have a sandable surface and one that takes paint in a similar fashion to wood. I understand that they don't use epoxy, but then they should have notified us of large gaps and given us the option of making alternative arrangements.
I actually tried to request this type of arrangement when I called to arrange for the bat doors to be removed. I made clear that I did not want them filling the holes with caulk; we would fill them with epoxy the same day. Again, customer service argued with me, which is baffling. We're the homeowners here. If we prefer the hole to be filled with epoxy (that we're providing and will apply ourselves), what do they care? It's a pretty minor issue - what's the point of disagreeing with the customer? Overall, trying to orchestrate this bat exclusion with Critter Catchers was as much of a headache as the bat itself. While the technicians are very nice and knowledgeable about critters (really, you can feel confident that they know how to handle wildlife), their handyman skills need improvement as does their customer service approach on the phone. We would like to feel that we got our money's worth from this job... the bats may be gone (hard to say, we only ever saw one once), but we're left feeling we paid a lot of money to be unhappy with the changes made to our house. We expected a lot more for the price.
Response from CRITTER CATCHERS, INC.
"I believe that it is appropriate to comment on the character and policies of our company. We operate under the direction of complying with the law, doing right by our customers, and giving back to the community. As demonstrated by our other reviews on Angies List and Super Service Awards we do a very good job. We have been blessed with a high volume of customers each year and maintain a fleet of 5 trucks to handle our growing customer base. To be successful with this many different people, it is important to have clear policies and communicate effectively. We maintain a comprehensive website to assist with this challenge. Scheduling - Our customers have the ability to request a specific date to have a bat exclusion completed on their home. We accomodate their needs within the constraints of our existing appointment schedule, weather, and time of year. Our technician schedules include a multitude of appointments in a given day, and we must maintain some degree of flexibility to accommodate urgent calls, trapped animal pickups, and new customers. Since the work required during typical bat exclusion is completed on the exterior of the home, our customers do not necessarily need to be home for this visit. We generally carry a backlog of bat exclusions, but schedule them only a few days ahead so that we can better manage our time with an efficient route. If a customer requires advanced notice, we can make a note to confirm the appointment in advance of placing it on the schedule. It is a simple communication effort and we can do it well. Home Maintenance - It is important that our customer's homes have been maintained. We are not construction contractors, we are wildlife control experts. If you are planning to get a new roof, install new siding, or paint the home, then you should make us aware of your intentions. A great time to let us know is during the initial visit when you meet our technician. Some of these projects can affect our price or even destroy the work that we complete. If you are planning major renovations, it is crucial to get all your contractors talking in advance to ensure that they are completed in the right order. We find that each contractor has their own set of concerns about their particular project, and it takes planning. We understand that your budget might not be large enough to complete everything that you would like at once, and renovations can occur in stages. Ultimately, the decision to evict the bats before getting other projects completed lies with the homeowner. Materials - We are happy to provide samples of our caulk so customers can see them in advance of the project. We have experience with several brands/types of caulk that we are comfortable with using. All the caulks that we utilize are clear. If we are caulking a painted surface, we want the color to show through as much as possible so that our lines less apparent. If you decide to paint the home at a later date, the caulk is designed to be painted. For large gaps, we have a couple options. We fill larger cracks with backer rod to provide a substrate to caulk; use urethane closed cell foam; or fabricate a barrier out of hardware cloth. If you do not approve of our choice of materials, then the customer is free to choose a different company. Completing the work - If builders, painters and other construction professionals were effective bat removal experts, then we would not have them as customers. Therefore, we do not recommend that others manipulate our work. We want to solve the bat problem from start to finish. Customer Service - We have live phone coverage 7 days/week from approximately sunrise to sunset. If you have questions or need a resolution to a problem, please give us a call. Additionally, our website has a form mailer that you can use to email the company president and customer service reps. We are very responsive."

They're really nice on the phone, they came out as scheduled and went up in the attic. I knew we had those, I figure that on my own, but they go up and tell you and they get the job done. It's interesting, the one that they're out of the house, they install one way then when they come out in the spring. But the one still hanging out around the front door, I talked to them about that, he knows it's the area where it stays but it's not in the attic anymore. The bats are gone but it's an interesting process. I'm okay with it on my front door as long as it's not in my attic.

"[member name removed]: Thank you for taking the time to review our company. You are absolutely correct, getting bats out of the house is an interesting process. The concept of sealing and securing a home and installing one-way exit doors is an easy concept. But, when you add a couple other dimensions such as weather, maternity season, hibernation, and a whole host of other behavioral issues the process becomes a little more complicated. It is a fun job, and we like to help people get rid of the bats that occupy the house. For help keeping a bat off a porch, consider the fact that they need a nice rough patch of wood or brick to grip. Sometimes a well placed pieces of plexi glass will cause them to locate a different place to roost."

"(deleted member name) - Thank you so much for the positive feedback. I will certainly pass along the comments to the team! Our Prevent-A-MouseTM program is an effective way to solve your mouse problem. Due to the reproductive power of this animal, effective control is an ongoing battle. Our process includes a combination of caulking, rodenticide treatment and periodic followup by a Critter Catchers technician. Our initial treatment includes attic application and bait stations, as necessary. Caulking around pipe penetrations is included. We do provide entire house caulking, for an additional fee. Customers that complete the initial setup and a minimum of 3 replenishments, in a 12-month period, can have the service charge waived for the following year. We will schedule treatments to complete the program, but do not hesitate to contact us if more frequent attention is required."
