Larry called a day early asking if I wanted my roof done today as it was scheduled to rain the next day. The guys arrived around 9am and brought a dumpster with them. They scraped the existing roof of 2 sets of shingles. Originally they thought they had to replace the entire decking too, but once they moved the shingles, it turned out they only had to replace a few areas, so they credited off the original estimate. They work until it got dark.. literally. With minimal breaks if any. They covered the parts of the roof they couldn't get covered and came back the next day after it stopped raining. For the entire two days there were guys whose job was to clean up the entire day. They ran a giant magnet over the yard and drive several times to try and get all the nails. (haven't found one since they left!) I appreciate the hard work and attention to detail. My clean up was perfect! They even sent out a guy the following day to inspect. There were a couple of items that I had questions about and Ryan Steffans did an excellent job of addressing my questions and keeping in contact with me. He did a great job of selling us the roof and explaining everything, right down to the estimate. There is a reason that Avalon has such a great grade here on Angie's List!

Project started with wrong color drip edge installed on a very small section of house. I noticed and called immediately. After a couple of calls from salesman and roofing scheduler, crew said they would continue to instal but have correct drip edge up "soon." Later that afternoon another drip edge was delivered, but it, too, was the wrong color. Crew leader told me he would go and get the correct color (by taking a piece of fascia off the house) but had been told to continue installing the roof using the wrong colored drip edge. Later, he returned with correct drip edge and they began to remove the already installed drip edge by using hammers and pry-bars to get under and peel back the just-installed ice/water shield along the edge of the entire roof, and to peel back shingles and rooftop venting. New drip was installed, job was wrapped up. My question, that I asked crew chief, was: What effect does peeling back just installed ice and water shield have? Does it affect the "Golden Pledge" warranty that GAF provides and Avalon cites? Didn't get a very solid answer and never heard back from the company. Afterward, gutter guards that had been removed were re-installed badly (I'd been told they'd send their "gutter guy" out to install them for me as part of the deal). Was also told they'd do a clean up of all materials and even use a magnetic rake to collect all the nails. Well, I found nerly 1.5 pounds of nails around the house, including many, many on the driveway and parking pad. Salesman was good, but follow up overall has been spotty. We were promised a top-notch job, gutter guard removal and installation, clean up and the salesman said he'd be by so we could go over the finished roof and talk any issues before billing. Well, I have the bill. The roof looks great, total refresh for the house. But I still don't know if the warranty will be valid, why the correct edge wasn't used (and the piece of fascia that was removed was installed crooked and bent), why there were so many nails left behind and why my wife and I had to spend three hours in the afternoon walking around and picking up trash from the roof removal. Liked these guys, went with them over a more local company because their initial pitch was very good (even though it was higher than others), but they returned to work with me on the price, but sadly, currently can't say "these are folks I'd recommend to my neighbors.",

Prompt professional service. The quote was to the point and accurate. I wasn't charged above anything I was quoted for. Worked with a financial place to get me a great interest rate and monthly installments. Clean up was very good. Only found a couple nails. Came and picked up the Dumpster very promptly the next day (8am). Very little inconvenience and completed the job in 1 day and I have a large roof. Larry Sidebotham was my sales associate and was extremely professional and timely. Avalon has great integrity and you get what you pay for with no hidden costs.

Installed beautiful GAF Camelot 2 shingles. This is an architectural shingle. Removed old roof Installed ridge vents (removed old inefficient venting) removed and reinstalled my satellite dish. Cleaned up. Protected sensitive flower gardens around the property. fixed rotten wood 40 feet up. Very responsive to phone calls. Changes the entire look of our home.

I got a lot of different quotes for the work and they varied wildly. I chose Avalon because they were the lowest bid. My roof looks great, and I've got not complaints about the work. Larry was professional when he came to give me the bid and draw up our contract. I was most impressed that Larry was the only one of the contractors who gave me a bid that seemed to actually know what the rules are in the historic district - some of the other contractors I met with tried to tell me things that I could or couldn't do that I knew to be inaccurate. Larry clearly knew what he was doing and that gave me confidence in the company. Dan managed the work at the site and he was polite and courteous. It was a big job - there were 4-5 layers of shingles on my roof, the bottom layer being the original shingles from 1902 when the house was built, and they ended up having to re-sheet the entire roof which. Now the roof and gutters looks great and all of the work was done as per the contract that we drew up. I have only two issues with the company. There was some confusion about when the job was going to start, and it ended up being pushed back almost two weeks from when I was told it was going to be done. That wasn't a huge deal to me though. A bigger issues I had was with the clean up. They did put down tarps, but there was a lot of debris in my flower boxes, along window sills and in the front yard. That was not too difficult to rake up. However, there is a ton of debris in my attic which will be more difficult to clean. These are the reasons that I docked them a grade for professionalism. That being said, I would still use them again.

I met Jeremy from Avalon at the Home Show in Grand Rapids. From the first meeting, appraisal, financing to the finished product we were beyond pleased. They were fast, efficient, so friendly and knowledgeable. Jeremy educated me instead of sold a product and I could not have asked for any better. He was a phone call away at any time to handle any questions or concerns I might have had. The laborers where some of the nicest guys! They also were clean, neat and so friendly. One young man even helped me look for my dog that ran off one afternoon!! How sweet is that? My home is just beautiful and I would highly recommend them to everyone!!

It went well. Would probably not have it done in the coldest part of winter, but got the Golden Pledge, so it will cover everything. Was a bit disapointed that they didn't use a tarp to catch nails, like they said they would. The weather was brutal, so they started and had to quit, then came back a few times to complete. There was a bit of lack of communication between roofers and what was suppose to be done. My husband had to show them the contract and had the main guy call them to verify what was to be done. No problem after that. They cleaned up as much as possible due to weather and snow. Came back a couple more times in Spring to make sure nails were picked up. Overall we're very happy with our roof and Avalon was a good company to deal with. Would we do it again in the Winter? No... Would we use Avalon Building Concepts again? Yes. Any questions we had and called on, they responded quickly. Very good customer service.

It went very well, I would recommend them to others, Larry the sales rep is fair and honest and down to earth !! They were very professional and took there time to get the job done right.

We were in the process of getting estimates for a roof when we met Larry from Avalon Building Concepts. After meeting with him we decided not to get any other estimates. He represented his company very professionally. He had patience with the many questions we asked. He has been very courteous and concerned with our project. He kept us informed on our home project as it progressed. He has never let us down. The workmanship of the crew that did our work was amazing, our new home finally is looking great. We have no need to go elsewhere with any future projects we have. The crew left our home very clean when they finished, great work?. This is an A-1 company. The contractor came on a very cold April day, which even with a winter coat was too cold to stand long outside. They looked at the chimney and did not see much of a problem until they tore into the column and found it was only half there, and did not go all the way to the bottom. But the house was made in the 1800's, and the foundation for the chimney was very well supported he said. They had enough bricks for a full chimney but did not need them. But since they were contracted by Avalon and the price was already established through Avalon there was not much we could do about the materials cost of the project. That would be the only down side of the project we found, but since we have never had any kind of work like this done before, it was a good teaching tool for us to learn from. All in all, it was a very good day. They got the job done, it looks well and works just as well. The contractor was very nice, worked well on that cold, cold day, and left with everything intact. We were so impressed and felt for the cold day, that we gave them a tip to buy the three men on the crew a good dinner somewhere.

Sterling service and workmanship was provided by Larry (Salesman), Carl (Project Manager) and the entire crew. Avalon Building Concepts has earned the highest rating possible and it was truly a pleasure to have Avalon re-roof our home. Carl, Duke and the rest of the crew completed the job in one day and their professional work ethic and experience was obvious throughout the day. Larry's guidance and counsel leading up to our decision to choose Avalon Building Concepts was outstanding. I highly recommend Avalon Building Concepts. I just had Avalon Building Concepts replace my roofing, chimney and gutters and I couldn't be more happy. Jeremy, the sales rep., came to my home as scheduled. He explained and demonstrated everything so that I understood completely what was going to be done. The roofing materials were delivered promptly and a dumpster arrived the next day. The roofers were friendly but business-oriented. They removed the old roofing, replaced plywood as needed, put on roof protection and new shingles. Another crew came to remove the under-eves (soffits) and put up a new vented treatment and color-matched fascia covering. The next day a different crew came to put up color-matched, seamless, covered gutters. The whole job was quick, efficient -- and they cleaned up EVERYTHING. Now my challenge is to out-live the 50 year guarantee!

Because I completely remodeled the house and porch I am only sorry I did not stumble onto Avalon Building Concepts sooner. In particular, the whole project would have been easier for me if I worked with Ryan Perry sooner. After requesting a free estimate from Avalon, Ryan Perry contacted me to set up an appointment. He arrived promptly to discuss what the project would entail. He represented the company and himself in a professional yet friendly manner. Ryan was knowledgeable about construction then and throughout the project. When I needed to make a decision but was wavering Ryan was able to give me additional ideas to consider that would work and better the outcome. That was extremely helpful. I did not have to think about the project because of Ryan Perry's ability to answer any questions the contractors had. If I had any questions it was never difficult to reach him. He always responded quickly. I am very happy with the workmanship provided, being kept informed of the project's progress, knowing when the workmen would return for the next phase and having the services provided as agreed upon. I especially appreciated the honesty Ryan provided when answering questions throughout the project and adhering to the timeline in an efficient manner. Working with Ryan Perry I quickly discovered was a big mental relief for a big project. I could focus on things I needed to do and not be concerned about the project entrusted to Avalon and Ryan. I appreciate Avalon Building Concepts and particularly Ryan Perry. I would not hesitate to hire Avalon/Ryan for future projects.

WORKING WITH AVALON HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE IN THE RENOVATION OF MY 120+ YR. OLD FARMHOUSE. I WAS SO HAPPY WITH THE FIRST JOB THEY DID FOR ME (NEW SIDING AND WINDOWS) THAT I HIRED THEM FOR A SECOND JOB, A NEW STAIRWAY, WHICH INVOLVED SOME DIFFICULT RE-ENGINEERING. THE END RESULT = BEAUTIFUL!! I WILL HIRE AVALON FOR ALL MY PLANNED FUTURE JOBS. I'VE HAD BAD EXPERIENCES WITH PRIOR CONTRACTORS AND WAS VERY SKEPTICAL BUT AVALON'S RYAN PERRY WAS VERY PATIENT WITH ALL MY QUESTIONS & CONCERNS, AND SPENT A LOT OF TIME EXPLAINING THE DETAILS OF THE JOBS, THE DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY & PRICE OF MATERIALS, HISTORY OF THE COMPANY AND EXPERTISE OF THEIR CONTRACTORS. WHAT IMPRESSED ME THE MOST WAS EVEN THOUGH WHAT I WANTED WAS MORE EXPENSIVE, RYAN SUGGESTED OTHER OPTIONS THAT WERE MORE PRACTICAL, DURABLE AND ECONOMICAL FOR MY PROJECTS. RYAN TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD THE STYLE AND LOOK I WANTED AND RECOMMENDED GREAT IDEAS THAT I LOVED BUT HAD NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT. RYAN'S ESTIMATES FOR EACH JOB WERE "ON POINT" WITH NO SURPRISES. THE CONTRACTORS DID QUALITY WORK, WERE COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL, KEPT ME INFORMED EVERY STEP OF THE WAY (NO MATTER HOW MINOR), AND ENSURED THE WORK WAS DONE TO MY SATISFACTION. I HAVE BEEN VERY IMPRESSED WITH AVALON AND THEIR REP. RYAN PERRY. I'VE RECOMMENDED THEM TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS, AND THEY ARE NOW MY "GO TO" RESOURCE FOR ALL MY BIG AND SMALL JOBS.

Our salesman Larry showed alot of patience with us. As our road is tore up from construction and we had another roofing company giving us their pitch and ran over to Larry appt.time. what sold us was Larrys knowlede of his products and how he talked about his team members like family. We were not expecting to have the house and garage redecked but our 1926 house showed broken and weak boards. Larry with out hesitation had his crew foreman go and get the badly needed ply wood. Larry only said"Lets do it right". Overall my wife and I are pleased with the new roofs and gutters that Avalon Building. Concepts installed on our house.

My wife and I knew we would need a new roof soon, and received estimates from a few of the "discount" roof companies. We decided to go with Avalon, not because their estimate was the least, but because we had the impression we'd receive the white glove treatment. Somehow we must have fallen through some cracks.... Our sales experience was pleasant, Larry gave us a pretty hard sell and we hired them on the spot because we already knew we were going to if their price was within range. The install process did not go as smoothly as we were expecting based on what we were told from the salesman. The crew was late, and did not pay attention to the details of the project, ex: flashing and drip edge was sloppy and bent, hardly looked new at all. We were happy to have a new roof, but not pleased with the process, the mess left behind, and the little things that took away from the overall look of the roof compared to our old one we replaced. So after not hearing back from the company after asking them to look at our concerns, we left a review on Angie's List, and within days Dan was at our house to hear us out. Avalon dispatched West Michigan's version of Mike Holmes, Nate. With a "make it right" attitude, and a truck wrapped with slogans about doing the job right, Nate spent half a day going around and fixing all our concerns. There were some he was not able to take care of, but at least he tried and that went a long way with me. The roof now looks better and I am satisfied with the work Avalon performed.

Different installers worked on different facets of improvements. Everyone was pleasant, patient and listened to my concerns and questions. There were some minor communication concerns, which was understandable as this was my daughter's house, yet I was the contact, from a different address, with a different name and phone number. I didn't like the way some overhead wires were left loose and undone, during the under ledge work. But Jeremy communicated that directly to the crew, as soon as I showed him. A couple minor oversights like that, were immediately fixed, on the spot. The main point is that the salesperson Jeremy was extremely professional, punctual and customer-satisfaction driven. He returned my phone calls promptly and encouraged my specific feedback during the whole process. He readily stayed on top of the progress and remained extremely responsive to all my inquiries and the couple requests I had to meet him on-site for further consultation. This is my second contract with Avalon and Jeremy. I rehired Avalon, because of my previous experience with Jeremy as a dedicated contractor who would see the project through to it's completion, without worry that it might end unsatisfactorily. Jeremy was stellar and earned my confidence and trust, the first time. He's the reason I am a satisfied 'repeat' customer.

Services were performed professionally. I have no complaints. Larry was especially helpful and the team of roofers was professional, polite, hard working. The area was cleaned up and job completed on schedule. Would use them again in a heartbeat.

I bought my house 2yrs ago. My roof had shingles and metal areas on it. I soon found out the metal was because of the worst ice build up I have ever seen. I called Avalon Bldg Concepts, their salesman Ryan checked my roof and new exactly what I needed to have done. He informed me I needed a complete tear off, new shingles and that my roof was not vented correctly. Ryan was very knowledgable and professional. Avalon's crew did a excellent job with my roof and clean up. I have absolutely no ice build anywhere on my roof now. I would definitely recommend Avalon and their salesman Ryan. This experience was undeniably the most pleasant ,expert job I have had done in my home.thats saying a lot because I've had the whole house remodeled . Had I known about Avalon and thier worker Tim Peterson.... I would have had them do my entire house.the attention to detail ,the long hours,and the maticulous work was exactly how I pictured it in my head....down to the last screw matching all my hardware!. Tim Peterson is one of a kind and Avalon is lucky to have such a hard working...attention to detail...experienced human being.thier sales guy...Larry sidebotham delivered exactly what he promised...start date to finish.if your looking for the best remodel in all of Grand Rapids....these are your guys! They will not leave until the job is finished,unlike most contractors who start it...then disappear on you because theve booked too many jobs.i can't say enough about Avalon,Larry and Tim...except...thank you! I spoke with Larry Sidebotham at the Grand Rapids Home and Garden Show and signed up for a free estimate. In about a week, I was contacted by Avalon. I invited them in and we discussed the steps they'd go through and showed examples of the new roofing materials as well as the Weather Stopper Roof Protection Program. After receiving a Home and Garden show price discount and the agreement that everything was included in the one price including the construction license, I agreed to the work. Within two days we had the work scheduled. The team was at the house early Monday morning. By 5pm, a good part of the work was done. A dumpster had been delivered earlier in the day to dispose of the old roofing material. By the 5pm Tuesday, the works was done. The house looked manicured. This is my first time working with Avalon. It was a great experience to work with such a wonderful group of professionals. As of 08-23-15, I spoke with one of the GAF inspectors about a concern with the reinstalled Gutter Helmet. The inspector said it was not his concern, the roof was. Since the entire warranty for the roof now rests with GAF and not the installer, I suspect I have problems ahead. The GutterHelmet is coming apart on the gutter of the garage, the area I can see. What about the gutter I cannot see. I will call Avalon Building Concepts on Monday 8-24-15 for a resolution and see if my suspicion is right. Other than the GutterHelmet, the roof looks great. I hate the thought of having to rip this roof off, remove GutterHelmet and install a new roof. Better sooner than wait for serious structural damage. No water inside so far. 08-25-15. I spoke with Larry Sidebotham and was assured that the GutterHelmet would be looked at and my concerns would be resolved. Hours later I received a call fromAvalon asking for more detail. As issues and concerns are resolved this note will be updated.

I knew that my nineteen year old roof was about ready to be replaced but a recent leak forced me to move the job to the top of my priority list. Avalon was the last quote I received and I am so glad that I contacted them. I placed a call to them on Tuesday(Feb 10th) and an appointment was set up for Thursday(Feb 12th) evening. Larry arrived at my house in a timely manner and was very courteous, professional and knowledgable. He explained all of my options and made recommendations for my situation. He highly encouraged using GAF shingles and enrolling into GAF's Golden Pledge Warranty (a program offered through the shingle manufacturer through authorized installers only). After reviewing the warranty information, looking at online reviews and seeing all of the areas where Avalon went the extra mile I was sold. I wanted this to be the last time I had to worry about a roof for many many years. I gave Larry my deposit check and emailed him my shingle color choice on Friday(Feb 13th) in the morning. I received a phone call that afternoon asking if I was comfortable with a Monday(Feb 16th) start date. We decided to go ahead and he told me that I should expect shingles and a dumpster to arrive early Monday morning with the Travis's crew arriving an hour or so before hand. Unfortunately due to extremely cold temperatures there were a few delays. This was no fault of Avalon's, they made every effort to have people out working whenever it was safe to do so. The shingles and dumpster arrived on Tuesday(Feb 17th) in the morning. Travis's crew were able to finish the job by working a half day on Tuesday(Feb 17th), all Saturday (Feb 21st) and a half day Monday (Feb 23rd). The dumpster and all materials were gone by the time I arrived home from work on Monday evening. Travis and his crew were very efficient, hard working and did an excellent job. At the end of each day they cleaned up their work area and left the house and yard as they found it. Overall I could not be happier with the job Avalon did and look forward to working them on future projects. Larry was very responsive throughout the whole process and Travis did an excellent job with my roof. Highly recommended.

Avalon did a great job very professional, clean, and speedy. They are a pleasure to work with and will use them in the future. Jeremy was great to deal with he educated me on what we needed and did not need, I did not feel like I was being sold things I did not need! they are just a great company and would use them again! 10 out of 10

All the installation of everything went great! Had a couple Issues with our window which were taken care of very Professionally by Jeremy (salesman) and Rick the owner. All issues were with the window factory and the two of them went out of their way to make us happy. All else went great! I have recommended Avalon numerous times already and the people that have had work done by them were very happy with their work. Best decision we have made with our 60 year old house Jeremy and Avalon are top notch!
