Mark, owner and lead repairman is a forthright individual and according to his wife Jeannie is one of the last true craftsmen who understands and repairs wood windows of all sorts. My windows were manufactured by Lincoln in Wisconsin and were not well installed nor were they well caulked by Lincoln. After 15 years many of the sills and lower brick moldings were rotten and I could no longer keep up with the repairs. I called Lincoln and was referred to Just Windows and Doors, the only qualified repair company within reasonable distance. When Mark came to estimate the damage and repair cost I found him to be knowledgable, confident, and forthright. After round one of repairs, I found Mark and his team's repairs to be nearly all of the "quick and dirty" or "close enough for government work" variety. True craftsmanship was absent. Fully rotten areas were missed all together, which I can understand to some extent because it can creep up on you. But to see, after extensive repairs of the surrounding window frame, a rotten mouse-size hole in a brick moulding that had just give it a quick squirt of caulk in the hope the owner doesn't notice is unacceptable. The entire piece should have been replaced, and Mark had the skill and materials to do so. Most rot is caused by water infiltration causing areas of continuous damp. Knowing this, would a true craftsman then leave areas in and around the window sill that will collect and hold even a small amount of water? NO. Mark did exactly that. He left a low area at each end of my living room window sill each of which would hold about a teaspoon of water. Standing water of any amount has no place in wood casement windows. Fully illustrated here is lack of attention to detail and sloppy craftsmanship. A small adjustment to the cut of the replacement piece and attention to placement during installation would have assured a decent repair. Instead, more rot is on the way. Mark fully understands the design, construction, and failure modes of my wood casement windows. He is fully conversant on the subject, and I was impressed. But my disappointment was great. He knows exactly what is required for the repairs and how to install the new materials quickly. But it was all so sloppy, right down to the caulking. I expected smooth professionally applied caulking. What I have is sloppy, lumpy, and poorly adhering goop and several areas were missed completely. Some critical areas showed separation and gaps in the caulk within 3 days of caulking by Mark and his associates. These are my more serious concerns. I have a list of several more minor problems. I did address them all with Mark, and even asked him back to correct them and do some more work, but the "quick and dirty" and "good enough" work continued. But he's the only game in town. I cannot recommend Just Window and Doors. Next time, I hire a true craftsman. He'll have to learn these particular windows and their idiosincracies, but I'll have a better finished product.

Response from Just Windows & Doors
We were called to replace a large Insulated Pane of glass (not a window) that had a seal failure due to our opinion of an aftermarket mirror like film tint that the customer had some other company applied to it for years ago. The customer was aware that we do not offer a film tint and only called us for just the replacement of this glass with our standard clear dual pane insulated glass, upon my arrival to measure for the glass replacement I noticed that the original glass had an after market mirror like film tint applied to it. I then mentioned to the customer the option of upgrading to our highest performance insulated glass that we offer which is low-e with Bronze Tint Glass. I discussed with the customer that this low-e with Bronze Tint would give much more energy performance by reducing Heat Gain and damaging UV light entering the home than the original after market mirror like film tint cause they are 2 different products so the customer excepted and signed the estimate to except the up grade to Low-e with Bronze Tint insulated glass. After the insulation of our Low-e with Bronze Tint insulated glass the customer contacted us stating that the sun light now travels father into their home than the original after market mirror like film tint glass. We tried to explain once more that their original glass can not be compared to our upgrade performance glass due to foreign product being a “mirror film tint application” on the glass similar like adding blinds or curtains or any other additional glass covering which will only dim the infiltrating light. Consequently Sun light will not travel further into a room if you do not move the location of the existing window higher up the wall in which we did not do. Furthermore it appears if I did not offer the Low-e with Bronze Tint glass to the customer they may have accepted the standard clear insulated glass in which they would more than likely apply some other window covering to block out the light transmittance into the home. As a resolution: We do not offer any product above the performance of the Low-e with Bronze Tint insulated glass that we have installed and a refund will not be permitted.

They were not very timely in getting back to me. They came and they did not give me an estimate on the spot. They said that they would e-mail it to me that night. They e-mailed it to me 10 days later. They back dated it and there were certain things that were wrong on it other than what we talked about. I waited for them to correct it. They said they would get right back the to me with the corrected version which took another 10 days by which time I had asked another company to come and bid. By that time it was too late because all the corking was getting cold and then I had to reconcile with myself saying that I will have to wait till spring now. I was not impressed with their responsiveness. When they said that they are going to give me another bid that evening they should have bend backwards to do that or at least e-mailed me and said that it would take a few days or whatever. I doubt if I would consider this company to provide an estimate in the future.

Mark, was prompt, efficient, neet, and very informative to work with. Because of our travel commitimets we had to wait about a month to schedule the work and Mark was willing to work with us to schedule the work at our convienience.
Description of Work: As owners of Weathervane windows (Sense gone out of business). The Tacks that the windows go up and down on, and weather stripping had deteriorated beyond an acceptable limit. I could not find anyone to be able to do a repair. All I was being offered was window replacement costing thousands of dollar. I Then found Just Windows and Doors on a website and called, and Mark came out to give us an estimate. Since the windows were in otherwise good condition he was able to offer a maintainence repair solution that will greatly extend the life of the windows and provide much better insulation, while saving us many thousands of Dollars.

We had at least 10 different quotes before we decided to have the work done by Mark. He was very attentive to our numerous questions about window options and how the work will be done. We had a number of email exchanges after his first visit and Mark was able to answer all our questions satisfactorily. The work was completed in 4 different days, over a period of 2 weeks. The work was done carefully and neatly. Everyone was polite and accommodating. Mark addressed all our concerns throughout the installation process. The new windows turned out beautifully. We are very satisfied with the entire process as well.
Description of Work: We had all the windows in our house replaced. Mark came out to measure the windows for the initial estimate. We have two large palladium windows and he came out again to do a more precise measure prior to placing the order for the windows. The old windows were removed and new ones installed, insulated and trimmed out with wood casing on the inside and aluminum on the outside.
