I gave MSU one star because I wasn't able to rate them any lower. I took my dog to emergency services when she was sick, but still very alert. When I returned after leaving her there for 14 hours she was comatose and barely able to breathe. I ran my dog to my personal vet who fixed her after having her for only 6 hours. MSU wasnt even able to give me a proper diagnosis and my vet, upon reviewing my dog's discharge papers, said that MSU ran a bunch of unnecessary tests which did nothing to help her. MSU even charged me $400 to deworm my dog when she's already on a monthly preventative. In short, I was charged $1,100 for MSU to do nothing but cause more harm to my dog. I would not have worried about spending the money had they been able to help my dog, but instead they only hurt her more. MSU has to be the worst experience I've ever had and I've had dogs my entire life. Definitely avoid going there at all costs! Ashley Van Fleet

Being an animal-lover who has pets and also does rescue, I've had many occasions to interact with various and sundry veterinary hospitals. MSU VTH is one of those. I will be honest, they are very hit or miss. Some of the doctors are amazing and do a great job. Others are complete hacks and botch surgeries on a regular basis. Recently the clinic has been going downhill. They recently dismantled their oncology department. Both the medical and surgical oncologists have left to go to other clinics. However, MSU will still operate on cancer cases, allowing unqualified surgeons to do surgeries they should not be doing. Cancer cases are now being operated on by soft tissue surgeons who are not board certified oncologists. When I go to MSU, I expect to have my dog seen by a real specialist. With the money you are paying, you expect that you are getting high quality veterinary care from a specialist, but that isn't always the case.
If you take your animal to MSU, make sure to ask questions! Ask if the doctor you are working with is board certified and if they are, what area are they boarded in? Some of the doctors at MSU are really wonderful, but you need to make sure you are working with someone who knows what they are doing. Remember that being 'nice' does not make someone a good surgeon. Ask about the doctor's qualifications. If you are having a surgery performed on your animal, ask about how many times the surgeon has done the procedure and what the success rate is. Ask about complications, side effects, and alternative treatments. The more information you get, the better.

I already knew he had a heart attack and that he was most likely dying. I could hear him gurgling when he was breathing and his pupils were totally dilated and my mother who was with me and used to go to vet school said he has had a heart attack. They made him suffer way too long, even though it was clear he was dying.
I took him there in the middle of the night, because I did not want him to suffer for a prolonged period of time. They are expensive and they do unnecessary procedures. I would only go there if I had no other choice or I needed a specialist to do a procedure that can't be done elsewhere. They do have equipment that most vets do not have access, too.

They accommodate your emergency needs right away. They are very thorough. They care for your pets. The veterinarian was very responsive to my follow up e-mail. Their price were very expensive but it is worth it.

They're very thorough. Sometimes I think they're a little bit too thorough but they get the job done. I have no complaints about them. I've had my dogs in for emergencies and they've treated them right away and were very helpful and did a good job. The students are always very good. I don't mind taking a little extra time so students can learn their stuff. It's a been a good experience.
