Home Building
Frozen pipes in this area are just a fact of living here. However, never in the 125 year history of this house have the pipes ever frozen. Although it's no a finished basement, it is heated between 45 and 55 degrees. The problem was ten feet out into the lawn in the supply line from the city main.
(I don't think a homeowner should have to pay for frozen water supply line from the main but that's fight for another day.)
We found out we had no water late Saturday morning. I started with calling the two companies suggested on Angieslist under: "thawing frozen pipes" I then started calling neighbors and searching the internet. This is where I ended up having to write two reviews, one for the company that fixed my problem and a different company who took the time to explain the process suggest people to call and even had backup home and cell numbers for some of the companies they suggested.
At some point, my mom checked to see if there were any suggestions on the City of Hancock, MI site. They, not surprisingly, listed a number of emergency people to call for my situation. Number one on the list was Carlson Contracting. This had been the first and most highly recommended service provider.
I called the main line which went to voice mail offered an emergency telephone number. I had already gotten this number from the previous company.
It was pretty late in the day by the time I called the emergency number but I actually got a human. No 'leave a message and I'll get back to you after the next blue moon stupidity.'
Yep, I got Carlson of Carlson Contracting. He said that it would depend on how long the numerous thawing jobs already in line would take and said if he couldn't get here that day, he would definitely get to us on Sunday.
Low and behold, he was at my door just after 8 am on Sunday, It took him all of 20 or so minutes to do the job and charged me almost half the going rate.
He was kind, knowledgeable, explained everything he was doing and how it worked. Cleaned up after the job and was an all around professional and businessman
I you need it done now and done right, Carlson is the guy to call.
I couldn't be happier with the entire process.
