SAMARKAND KENNELS

We used this kennel last year for the first time and liked it. So we went back again this year and boarded our dog there for another 9 nights stay. Upon picking him up we immediately smelled urine on him, very strongly. About 10 minutes into the ride home we found two sores on his lips both 1/2 inch in diameter., he also just wanted to sleep. Wasn't his normal excited self. Usually we can't keep him from licking us, even if we're just returning from the neighbors house. He's usually a very affectionate dog. His bed was also covered in urine. He is very well house trained and never urinates on his bedding. I called Samarkand and they were totally unaware of the sores on his lips and how they might have gotten there and had no idea that he smelled as bad as he did or that his bed had been urinated on. They told me that if he had urinated on it they would have washed it, since they do this when ever they have "dirty" bedding. His bedding took two washing in my wash machine to get it clean. It's been 4 days now since we picked up our dog and he still doesn't seem like the same dog we dropped off. He's clearly lost weight and isn't eating much, sleeps way more then what he did prior to going to the kennel and has a funny cough (wondering if he has Kennel cough???). I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow if I don't see any signs of him improving. This was nothing like our first experience with Samarkand Kennels and we will never be taking him or any other pet back to them. Nor will we be recommending them to anyone.

As usual, my dogs did very well here at Samarkand kennels. I had been going to another good boarding kennel for many, many years. However, when my dog population reached 4 dogs, I could no longer afford the other kennel. My vet recommended Samarkand a couple of years ago and I tried it. It is an excellent kennel - one of my dogs has special needs and they watch him and care for him like I do at home. I can afford these kennels, as they are much cheaper than my original kennel, although their services are just as good. I read that negative review and was very surprised - I can't imagine that happening at Samarkand - if my dogs soil their beds, they wash them. They always return the dog's items such as bedding, left-over food and toys in good condition. I volunteer for the Red Cross disaster service and could not continue this until I found Samarkand kennels which I can afford for the length of time I am gone. The dogs love to come here - out of my four - two are very anxious dogs - they do as well here as the two balanced dogs - my little one cries at the car window when we pull up as he is so eager to go there. I've never met an unpleasant person at the kennel, and they are ready to give you any help needed - especially when I pull up with 4 dogs, 4 beds, a large container of food, and their toys. They have given medication and it must have been OK as the dogs have never gotten sick while at the kennels or at home later. I would highly recommend the Samarkand kennels as being very good for your dogs and at the same time affordable.

Fantastic experience. Was a bit of a drive for us to get there but well worth it. This was our first time there and we will continue to use this kennel.

We left both of our dogs here for three days. When we returned to pick them up they were covered in their own pee. Our young one piddles and they never cleaned it and let him roll in it on his bed for three days, along with the older dog so they both smelled so bad we had to give them baths when we returned home. We had to give them back a bed of ours to throw away because it was covered in pee. Our dogs seemed very tramautized and didnt seem like they got any attention at all. If someone had taken the time to pet them or give them a hug they would have smelled urine all over them. They have a dog grooming place right there and I could not beleive the condition we got our dogs back in. Very disappointed with all of the good reviews we read. Maybe we caught them at a busy time, but we treat our dogs like our kids and the way they were received back was unacceptable to me.

I love this place. I have boarded our dogs there for years and they are amazing. Our dogs love going there. This last time they kindly separated our 8 month old Golden Retriever from our two older dogs. He was driving the big girls crazy! They put him in the run right next to them for no extra charge. They felt like the big girls needed a rest from his puppy antics! How nice is that! It is always clean and the staff will always go the extra mile. I recommend Samarkand highly! Your dogs will come home tired put from THEIR vacation!

My dog nearly flies out of the car when we pull in to Samarkand. He loves the staff and loves to play with the other dogs there. The staff is so nice and will do anything to make your dog comfortable and you happy.

They were wonderful. My dog perfers there than here. They are very nice people.

Their services are very good. Somebody recommended them to us. We toured two other facilities but we found Samarkand very clean and tidy. The dogs were put in kennels which had strong walls. They had a nice place at the back for the dogs to do their business and they seemed to care about the pets. They were very responsive because, the first time I left my dog with them, I would call every morning to see how my dog was doing. They were so kind and patient with me.
