and, I admit that I chose to call Real Estate professional, Loretta Spinrad, based not only on her reputation in the community but because of her name ...the same as my wonderful mother's. The decision to sell half-heartedly made, I dialed her number, not even sure what I wanted to actually say. Loretta's first visit with me in my living room was one that had little to do with selling my home but more to do with her listening to me agonize about making the decision to sell. It ended with my suggestion that she look around my home on a day when I was not there and write down anything she saw that needed to be repaired or changed in some way - before any agreement was signed. And so- incredibly - for 7 months I slowly worked away on her unbelievable 2-page "to-do" list along with additional items I added of my own in the process. The actual sales agreement itself was signed on my screened porch as carpet cleaners hissed and steamed away the remaining repair dust, but only after I'd met many more times with Loretta and given her the chance to approve the results of what I had done. Slowly we talked about Real Estate market conditions ...and then I finally came face to face with sticker shock reality of what other similar homes in my area were actually selling for. Having been misled by the media and disappointed as I was by what I heard from her, I knew she was right. After settling on a listing price I felt was too low, of course, I endured showing after showing, making sure my home was spotless each time, with reports back from Loretta about what each potential buyer was saying about my home, most of which I could already anticipate (?small bedrooms, not enough bathrooms, no granite counter tops, no crowne moldings? etc...all teaching points from HGTV's House Hunters). Months went by, and with it more showings and more education from my teacher/mentor, Loretta Spinrad, about today's home buyers and their expectations regarding must-have amenities & price. As I listened and learned, I knew what was coming next: a listing price reduction. Reluctantly I agreed, knowing again that she was right. And in the midst of this, Loretta suggested we begin looking at possible new places for me to live, places that would meet my needs in a better way. So we did just that, often ending the searches late at night. We looked at every possible option, each time Loretta pointing out things I did not see such as potential costly repairs and updating. No actual selling ...it was always about me and what would work. Time went by with showings on my former home getting more serious and with Loretta and me narrowing down the search for a new home to a few in neighboring communities. With the actual sale and closing of my old home came the increased anxiety that I was still without a suitable replacement. Loretta pushed on, suggesting that I remain in my old home for 45 days - providing myself the time to keep looking until we found just the right place to live. Having spent the time getting to know me, she could eliminate some of them immediately. Finally, bringing in my trusted daughter-in-law to look at two "finalists," the choice was made. Still, Loretta said we needed an inspection, a professional she knew well. And she went with him as he looked at every inch of my potential new home, searching for "problems." After all this and countless additional phone calls and other communications on my behalf, we worked out the details...then the closing. There were even last minute
issues which she resolved. Then suddenly it was over. And in thinking it over, I was amazed at the work Loretta Spinrad had done for me: countless hours, days, weeks, months...encouraging me through my exasperation, my impatience, my disbelief & so many disappointments. Then taking time to celebrate with me when everything finally worked out. She is so much more than a Real Estate professional. She's a life coach, a counselor, a mentor and a friend with an eye for critical detail such as I have never seen in my professional or personal life. Nothing escapes her. Her experience in Real Estate - and in life work so beautifully together - and shows in everything she does. Do I recommend her to you? Absolutely - and without question!
ps. Not described above is the fact that in the midst of this selling-one-home-and-buying-another-home process with Loretta, I had to undergo an unexpected surgery and extended hospitalization. Despite this bump in the road, I continued to see Loretta regularly, aware that she was just moving things along with seemingly little effort.
