"Unfortunately when we have work referred to us from another shop we must always do our own diagnostics, for which there was no charge. However, as Sears had indicated they do not work on Transfer Cases, therefore there was a bit more to the diagnostics that included replacing ujoints as well as the transfer case. The ujoints are what caused the problem with the Transfer case. The reason we told this customer to not drive in the vehicle at this time was clearly because in its condition it was unsafe. That is the only time we would ever tell a customer to not drive a vehicle. Please keep in mind, none of us like to spend money on vehicle repairs. This was a lack of maintenance to the ujoints, thus creating a bigger more expensive repair. The vehicle is 15 years old and repairs and maintenance are required. We are sorry for the disappointment this customer experienced."

I am familiar with transmissions from my previous work with Ford. I called several places who all quoted me much higher prices, the dealership wanted $3,500 to put a rebuilt transmission in it. I spoke to the owner and he seemed to know what he was talking about. I took it in on Friday, they immediately pulled the transmission out of the truck, rebuilt it, and had it ready for me the next. They even provided a vehicle for me, they said they would pay the first day on rental, but it only took one day. They also gave me a 10% discount.

It went very well. Total time was two days. Picked up morning of third day. Car ran great. Took it back two weeks later for free check up, no issues. I have already reccommend Indepedent to my friends. would go again in a heartbeat.

It was excellent. They did not end up doing any work for me. They did test drive my vehicle and told me it was not the transmission problem.

We knew our 1994 Suburban transmission was suspect when we bought the vehicle in 2000. Seven years later the transmission let go. Independent replaced the transmission with a rebuilt unit. About one year later, just out of warranty, the rebuilt transmission self destructed. Independent put another transmission into the vehicle at 1/2 the price of parts and labor which I felt was very fair. I would definitely return as I believe this to be an honest shop, something you don't see too often in transmission shops today.

We were visiting family in Taylor, MI. We are from Pennsylvania, and on the day we arrived in Michigan, our transmission started malfunctioning. We asked family members for a good transmission shop and they did not have any recommendations. I went to Angie's list and found Independent Transmission. They were 15 miles away from where we were staying,but I took a chance since they had good grades on Angie's list. I am glad that I went there. Neil and Andy were very helpful. They took me in right away, arranged for a rental car at an excellent price, and had the repairs done within 24 hours. I was completely satisfied and would definitely recommend them to my friends and family.

I found them on Angie's List. They did it quick, which was nice. They got me updated on the changes. They had a coupon on Angie's List for 10-15% off. It ended up being a little bit more than the original quote. I haven't had any problem since then.

The office manager (Barb) was courteous and professional and provided useful feedback as I was concerned about the price vs the age of the car.
I was called immediately following their findings as to the cost to perform the repair.
As a single woman, my good friend came along for support and everyone I interacted with also engaged him in the conversation and was responsive to any questions he had based on what he knew about my car and my personal finances.
I was also happy that they offered a 10% coupon to ALL Angie's List members, which helped a great deal! And even though I forgot about the coupon when I met with them originally, they had NO problem honoring the coupon once I called back later to mention the special offer.

Not being a mechanic myself, I was apprehensive when I entered the shop, especially since many transmission shops have bad reputations in general. Not so here. The owners of Independent Transmissions of Michigan were up front and honest about diagnosing the problem and estimating the cost. The work done was excellent and the price was fair even though the job was labor intensive. Car drives like new now. I would recommend this shop.

The dealer wanted to much money just to investigate why my truck(2002 ranger) was leaking transmission fluid. I decided to take it to Neil after reading the review of his shop. I dropped it off on Saturday and he called me Monday morning and explained to me where the leak was coming from and how it caused the torque converter to fail. He replaced the torque converter as well as the manual lever position switch and fixed my exhaust which was loose. It was ready for me to pick up Tuesday afternoon.
I checked around and found that the price I was charged was competitive and even better with the 10% off coupon. The parts and labor comes with a 2 year , 24,000 mile warranty.

Their prices are fair. They are honest and appropriate and are very friendly and professional, which I like.
