Hairston Plumbing

I called Mike because the kitchen sink at my mom's was backing up after upper story toilets were flushed. This has necessitated my 81 year old mom go down two flights of stairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. This has not been a problem until the huge flooding storm we had in SE Michigan. The house is an almost 50 year old tri-level and the drains have not been snaked in recent or even remote memory. I called purchased a voucher for drain clearing or sewer line cleaning. This problem only occurred after rain storms and we were concerned that her line to the street was backed up with roots and such. The clean out on the stack was clear, and it did not appear that there was a blockage in the vent. Mike contacted me via email and I called him after the order was placed. He was very kind and professional on the phone and we agreed to speak the following day to set up a time to come over to look at the situation. From there I had difficulty reaching him due to both of his phones having voice mail boxes that were full. When I did reach him after a couole of days, he was incredibly apologetic. We agreed upon a day and time to meet at my mom's house. Mike was to have met us between 1 and 3 with a phone call to is when he was on his way and about a half hour away. He told me he was picking up supplies by himself. There was no phone call back and no way to reach him due to the filled mail boxes. He finally showed up with an assistand who appeared. It was very apparent that he was overworked and rushed and had inadequate assistance. During one of our many conversations, he told me his daughter who worked in his office was out. In any event, my sister reported that Mike arrived with no tools that she was aware of. The toilets were flushed and no back up occurred. Mike opened the floor drain in the lower level and listened to the pipes. He stated that from what he could hear, the pipes ran freely. I had told him that the problem occured during rainstorms and heavy storm drain activity. It was a lovely dry day when Mike came. Additionally As far as I knew, the drains had not been snaked or scoped to the street In at least 25 years. Mike was at the house for about 10-15 minutes, told my mom that he would not charge us because he did no repairs and that we should call him to come back if the problem occurred again. She was slsoThe problem has re-occured but told that Mike would call or email me. I received an email indicating that I should call him if there is a problem. Given the problem I experienced in reaching Mike, the problem with his arriving at the house very late, and then the impression we were left with that this was not an issue he was willing to investigate further - or for which he was not prepared - or for which he did not have equipment or help, I am really reluctant to ask him to come back. In fairness, Mike seemed to be a really nice man, was courteous and kind to my mom, my sister and myself, but he seemed overwhelmed, distracted, underprepared, overworked and he may have over promised. If I could see any consistency of follow-through and be assured that he would actually follow through and snake and scope the drains, since the problem still exists, then I would love to give the guy to business. But I hope for complete professionalism. We will have to see.

The experience was excellent! Michael showed up before the scheduled time. He was very knowledgeable and knew what the problem was and took care of it.

I held off on calling anyone else because he told me he could fix my problem and would call me right back when I called. I have never heard anything else from him in over a week.

My repair went really well. I started out with the garbage disposal malfunctioning and while running the dishwasher I discovered that the dishwasher was leaking also. To top it off I found that my pipe under the sink had burst and water was everywhere, even leaking through the ceiling below!!! Michael came to my home to look at the job and advised me that he'd come to do my repair the next day. I was surprised to find that the repair he did with the pipes under my kitchen sink actually gave me more space for under sink storage!! He was friendly and professional. I was very pleased with his work. I'd definitely call on him again.

I purchased a new facet and drain for my main bathroom shower and needed to have this installed. I called Mike because of the positive ratings he's received here on Angie's list. They are well deserved, Mike is very busy, I had to follow up with him on the phone to get the appointment scheduled, but he showed up on time when he said he would, did the job in a timely manor and cleaned up. He is very polite and professional. I think his prices were fare considering the work he had to do and would surely use him again.

My garbage disposal had a leak in it so I called Hairston plumbing. I had already purchased a new garbage disposal since I knew it would need to be replaced. Hairston plumbing came out, disconnected my old garbage disposal and had the new one put on in a half hour I would say. He was on time, quick, and clean. I would use again

I placed the order on 7-9-14 and it was finally completed on 9-21-14. I was available anytime, so that tells what a problem it was. There were multiple cancellations, multiple no shows /no calls, and multiple phone calls and emails by me to follow up. It finally took 2 follow ups by Angie's List customer service and finally a call from Angie herself, (thank you Angie), before it got completed. Michael is a nice man and pleasant enough, but should not be in business.

I would have given them A's across the board except they weren't able to keep the original appt. When he realized he wasn't able to keep the second appt. he sent someone else to do the work. Very satisfied with the gentleman who came.

Other than breaking a light bulb in the small room where my drain was located, it went fine. One of the workers hit it with his head. I was surprised they didn't offer to replace it.

The two servicemen arrived 15 minutes before the appointment and were very professional and friendly. The took their equipment downstairs and within 20 minutes were done snaking the drain. They stayed long enough to make sure the job was done properly by running a massive amount of water though. Not a hard or complicated job, but quickly and well done.

Mike and I connected this week, his schedule was busy but he was able to schedule us in a reasonable amount of time. What a pleasant service call! Mike and his partner arrived, diagnosed the problem in about 10 minutes, provided an estimate to rework the pipes under the sink. After agreeing to the cost, Mike even found a better way that was not as labor intensive and the bill ended up being half the original estimate. Mike took care of the problem and the sink is now fixed. We appreciate that he is a man of his word, and provides professional services at an affordable rate. My wife and I were both impressed and will not hesitate to have him back or to refer him to others.

He finally called back around 11 a.m. the following Monday after I had wasted three days of vacation waiting and we had been without our sinks for all that time saying he could come out around 4 p.m. that day but by this time I did not trust him to follow through and I had managed to stop the leak in the drain pipe. I do not think this company is equipped to handle the volume of work generated by their offers and they underestimate the amount of time each job takes. I do think they mean well but good intentions don't always make for good business transactions. I could not afford to waste any more time so I found a local plumber to do the cleanout and for the same price, who called when he said he would and came out to do the work on time. I wish Michael well and hope they develop a better system for setting up appointments and following up.

We burst a water pipe in our upstairs bathroom one particularly cold night last winter. After calling maybe a half-dozen plumbers the next morning, Hairston was the only company that both called back and was available right away. Mike and his associate were prompt, professional, and very friendly. They were also willing to listen; we had located the approximate location of the leak, in an exterior wall next to our bathtub. Mike pointed out that this was an unlikely place for the plumbing to be, but he took our word for it. Sure enough, when he punched through the drywall he found the water supplies and quickly located the break and figured out how to cap it. We would definitely use Hairston Plumbing again. The work was professional, the price was fair, and Mike himself was a pleasure to work with.

Highly recommend!! I spoke with Mike after 5pm on Wednesday, and we talked about him coming out in a couple of days. When the situation grew worse the next morning, I called again and he was kind enough to come to my house later that same day. He worked quickly and efficiently. As always, he was very pleasant, didn't try to sell me anything, and gave his honest opinion of the situation. I have used his services once before and will gladly call him again for any future issues.

Mr. Hairston was punctual and complete. I did not have any problems getting through to him, nor receiving responses. The job was completed at a Rental property I own, and I would not go anywhere eles for plumbing from now on. This is the kind of service I was looking for. From this point on, As long as he is available I will use him for my plumbing jobs. Mr. Hairston had 2 other jobs before me, and I respected that, as he said he would fit me in. That if fair, as I think people are not considerate that they were not the first person to call, thus waiting should be expected, or understood that the person they call may not be able to get to them at all. On top of all of that, this was a Saturday request, and not planned. He has proven to me that he is sufficient and knows his field well. At this time, my rental property is not leaking hot water from the faucet, nor is my outside faucet loose. Thank you Hairston plumbing for taking care of my customer needs. Update 10/17/2014 This individual seems to not stand by his word. Unfortunately, I found that out after the fact. I really gave my review way too soon. Now I understand the reviews that established that there was a lack of response and professionalism. Les me explain why the sudden change in my initial review. Because of appointments that I needed to make on the service date of 9/13/14. I was not present during the actual work. (it was a rental property that I had a tenant living in) I did see the finished product later and it was satisfactory. However I would not use these services again. When I attempted to pay him, he gave me an address that I thought he was at. When I arrived there, it was found to be his fathers house. The contractor was on the other side of town saying it was ok to pay his father and that he would later e-mail me a receipt. (I know that was a bone head move on my part), but I took him at his word. I never received a receipt even after several pleads to send me my receipt. Instead I would get the same response, "Mr. Smith, To this date I have never received a receipt even after several pleads through Angies List. All I would get is the same response: "Your information is recorded and I will send you out your receipt." Yet, I would never get it. I realize this person is not going to give me a receipt. The work may have been acceptable, but due to his lack of professionalism, and dishonesty, I would not recommend his services. He simply just does not keep his word.

Plumber had to work in a small area to replace the pipe coupling and elbow. He did a very good job in a reasonable length of time. The plumber could not make the original time frame because of extra time needed for the previous appointment. He did call ahead of time to let us know of a delay in meeting our appointment which was much appreciated. This was not a big issue his he was courteous enough to call us in advance. Again very good work.

Holiday weekend-clogged drain-out of town company. Could have been a disaster but Michael Hairston came to the rescue. He was at my house within 4 hours of my call. The service was so good that I just called to have him fix a problem in my office.

They did a great job. I would definitely use their services again.

Pretty simple, bought the coupon and he came out and snaked the drain to make sure it drains. There was a delay in getting the appointment but it was minor.

The service was fine. My appointment was for 1 p.m. and he called just after the appointment time to let me know he would be an hour late which was ok with me, however, he showed up about three hours later. The work itself was good.
