I received an invitation to join my next-door neighbors for a Rosh Hashanah dinner (my first). My neighbors keep a kosher kitchen, so not having a kosher kitchen myself, I could not cook or bake anything to bring. My mom taught me never to arrive at someone's home for dinner empty-handed, so I thought I would send a centerpiece for the hostess' dining room table.
I placed the order late at night on the internet and called first thing in the morning to tell the florist more specifically what I wanted. The gentleman I spoke with was very pleasant and helpful, thanked me for the order and said they would take good care of it and get it delivered that afternoon (to the Oakland County 'burbs).
When I arrived at my neighbors' house for dinner that evening, there was indeed a beautiful fresh centerpiece - long and low with pretty very fresh flowers and two taper candles, as per my request.
I chose this florist because I received some flowers from a friend from this location and was so pleased with the freshness and prettiness of what I received.
Contrary to what the name might suggest, the shop is not actually located within the confines of a hospital building - though it literally is a hop, skip and a jump to a number of the DMC buildings.
I really liked that it is a owner-operator family business - not some huge online conglomerate's outpost. (Although they do have the ability to wire-transfer orders through Teleflora anywhere in the world, according to their website.)
I also like the idea of supporting a Detroit-based business that has been in its now-trendy Midtown location through the bleakest and darkest of times of Detroit's recent past yet survived. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who needs fresh, quality flowers.
