Overall, this experience was a nightmare! After suffering a disaster, such as a house fire in the middle of the night, dealing with Garn Restoration was nearly as bad. They were paid by insurance to complete the restoration of our home, that they never completed. Our basement still reeks of smoke. Paint is peeling from our garage ceiling, the amount of water that leaked into our basement for many months caused alot of damage and losses and Garn Restoration will not take responsibility for their shoddy work or that of the plumber that THEY hired. Ryan Garn refuses to allow an insurance claim for the damage, negligence and losses to our home and property. Their insurance adjuster, as of this date has not contacted me even though I requested him to on several occasions. We have not been compensated for clothing items that were damaged by their "cleaning" of them. The items that were moldy and had to be disposed of were other losses that no one has covered. After losing nearly everything due to a house fire, we now have due to the restoration company...and they had the nerve to bill us for cleaning up THEIR mess!
Description of Work: Garn Restoration was hired after a house fire in 2009, based on the referral of the insurance carrier. They did the restoration work as well as the rebuild of our home. The home was nearly a total loss due to the amount of smoke, fire and water damage. After our house fire, I entrusted Garn's "expertise" to take care of everything, which was my first mistake. Garn Restoration hired the subcontrators, including the plumber. Nearly two years after the rebuild of our home, we discovered mushrooms growing in our basement carpet. Since the basement was finished, we had to tear out walls to find the source of the leak. It was determined that when the sewer pipe was replaced, as was all the plumbing in our home, it was never sealed around the pipe. Ground water had been leaking into our basement behind a wall for nearly a year and a half. Mold and mildew was discovered along with more mushrooms. I contacted Garn Restoration regarding the pipe that wasn't sealed and they sent someone over. They began to take responsibility, sealed around the pipe and began the tear out of the walls, carpet etc. However, due to our losses from mold damage, I requested the companies insurance information from Ryan Garn. He argued with me that the information was none of my business, I couldn't file a claim on his insurance and I had no right to that information. We argued several minutes over the issue. Eventually, he came to my home to investigate my complaints about they never removed the smoke odor, the Kilz (they sprayed throughout the basement without ever cleaning the smoke damage) was peeling off and the blackness was returning, the water damage etc. Initially, he agreed to repair the damages. However, at some point, his insurance adjuster determined by photos of the pipe that Garn Restoration was not responsible for the leak around the pipe and a claim should be filed with the plumbers insurance company. The insurance adjuster never contacted me, or came to my home to inspect the damage. According to Ryan Garn, the plumber denied replacing the pipe (even though I have pictures to prove otherwise) and they refused to file a claim with their insurance company. At that point, Ryan Garn told me since their insurance adjuster determined they were not at fault, they were done in my home. He sent me a bill for over $2500.00 for "services rendered", however most of the items billed for were never completed. The invoice states that payment is due within 7 days or he may take legal action and/or place a builder's lien on my home. Garn Restoration took clothing and items to be cleaned that we had not washed yet from the moldy area. Instead of taking them to the dry cleaners as they stated they would, they laundered everything...together. There were new blue jeans along with light colored clothes that were washed together, so now we have numerous items that are blue stained. A $50.00 mattress pad that clearly states "Spot clean only or professionally clean" was also thrown in a washing machine and ruined! At the present, our basement is partially torn apart, the smoke odor still lingers, the Kilz is peeling off and our basement is a disaster. I also showed Ryan Garn that our garage ceiling had been peeling from where they painted it. It was first noticed peeling six months after we moved back into our home. They were paid by insurance to complete other jobs regarding the house fire and did not do them. They made a hefty profit on our home and still took shortcuts!
