H & R BLOCK TAX SVC

This is the worst tax service I have ever seen. They did not know what they are doing. The woman who did our taxes was a "first year preparer" which is all fine and dandy but really needed an expierienced person in the office with her. There was some question on a wrongful death settlement my wife recieved from the federal government. My wife contacted an IRS agent several months ago to inquire if the money was taxable. The IRS told her that it probably was not depending on the trpe of settlement. After the woman brought in another agent who was supposedly supposed to know what she was doing. As soon as the woman told her it was a wrongful death suit she immediatly without any hesitation said it was taxable. My wife said to her "are you sure?' because the IRS told us it was proabably not taxable. After a few minutes of going back and forth on this she finally decided to actually read the facts on the court documents and realized it was not taxable. If it had not been for my wife telling her all this we would have paid taxes on a large sum of money. They also charge $300 for this "service" and it is a complete rip off. I can use turbo tax and do the exact same thing. The ONLY reason we went to this  tax "professional" was due to question on the settlement. the also tried to "upsell" us a $35 dollar plan to pay any money that the IRS asked for if the return was incorrect. This is a sign to me that they do not know what they are doing that $35 fee is just a way for them to make more money. I do not reccomend this company as a whole and i think they have a lot of turnaround with there "preparers". If i ever go to a tax person again it will be certified CPA and not some person who moonlights doing taxes and probably works at wal-mart during the day. I have since called them and spoke to the woman who supposedly had expierence, she was very unpleasant and thinks she did nothing wrong. I have told them to cancel the whole thing and fortunatly i had not paid yet because some of my wifes school book reciepts were pending. I am going to pick up all my paperwork and do the return myself with turbo tax as i have done for 8 years at a much lower cost. Oh and they also want 40 dollars to take their fee from your tax return!  ridiculous!
