That said, his costs went quite a bit over estimate (by about 25%), in some cases due to changes we made or unexpected issues, but sometimes it seemed just like things were overlooked.
There were also a few things done on the project that I was not thrilled with - again nothing major, but I wish I had worked with an architect or designer to plan all facets in advance because I ended up with strangely placed thermostats, outlets, dryer vent, toilet, closet and baseboard heaters. I can work around it all, but it's not what you hope for when you put on an addition.
I would use Birchwood again, but I would add 25% to the estimate and I would spell out every tiny detail in advance. (Which I should have known to do, but it was my first big project and I was unaware of all that should have gone into it before starting.)
