LA+A studio, llc provides Landscape Architecture plus Architecture services in the design of homes and gardens focused on indoor-outdoor connections and sustainable best practices. In the design of a home, we consider the spaces that will form memories over time. The everyday activities of a family may inform us of how to enter a home, and the transitional space between the indoors and the out of doors may become a place to pause between environments. Light and sound become part of the architecture as we experience spaces where one may have privacy or share rooms with others. Versatility in the use of space is often treasured, not only for the routine, but for the celebrations and change that come with time. In the design of a site, we begin by understanding the lifestyle of the users and then explore solutions that consider existing elements, climate, season and ecosystem. Successful integration of indoor and outdoor spaces can create synergies between the natural and constructed environment resulting in sustainable solutions. Over the course of the changing seasons, plants will mature and our personal connections with the home and garden will evolve. Randy is a licensed architect in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia and a LEED AP with specialty in Building Design and Construction.
