Many people believe that their car is the largest single source of air pollution for which they are personally responsible. But in fact, the average home causes the emission of more than twice as much carbon dioxide--the principal greenhouse gas--as the average car. This is because most of the energy consumed in our homes is produced by burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. This pollution is actually a hidden cost for the energy We use, over and above the dizzying $110 billion Americans spend each year on their home energy bills that's nearly $1,300 per house. Much of this energy use is unnecessary because there are a variety of proven, widely available products on the market today (heating, cooling, appliances, windows, lighting, etc.) to drastically reduce your home's energy bills, and accompanying pollution. What's more, many of these products actually improve the comfort and livability of your home.

Fantastic - highly recommend JKJ Electric
Description of Work: Extremely prompt/professional service. Came to do free eval the same day I called and did the repairs within 24hrs. Replaced entire circuit breaker and other wire issues. True to their estimate despite unexpected difficulties in reaching the wires requiring more time spent and extra man power. I would highly recommend this company!

They were very pleasant during the scheduling and were flexible enough to change the installation date at the last minute to accommodate a change in my schedule. The installer was friendly, worked quickly, and cleaned up when he was done. The fans both work perfectly. My only complaint is that the installer was quite late in arriving and I didn't get any kind of call from the company to alert me so I wasn't sure if he was coming or not. But once he arrived, the work was great.
Description of Work: They installed 2 ceiling fans that I had purchased on my own and they connected each of them to the light switch for the room. The rooms were already wired, so they did not have to do any of that.

I contacted Angie?s List for an electrician to create a new circuit from my breaker box to serve a newly-installed cabinet. I delivered a to-scale drawing of the job to each, and in addition to the on-site contactor in our gated senior community. Our on-site contactor estimated three hours for this job at a rate he believed to be the lowest possible. (However, I have known his electricians to be haphazard and slow.) I selected JKJ Electricians from Angie?s List. The youngish electrician they sent was so fascinating that I watched his entire installation. He set to work immediately, swiftly and confidently completing each separate move even as he reached into his parts bag or tool kit for the item he knew would be needed next. He completed the entire job in about half the time estimated by our on-site contractor. JKJ?s worker displayed a skill one rarely sees these days, for a cost slightly less than the ?bargain rate? quoted by our on-site contractor. JKJ was the right choice, and I will call them again for future electrical work. I rate them ?excellent? (A) in all categories.

Initially the room had no ceiling light (only outlets). They sent two individuals who were very friendly, professional and pretty quick (they got it all done in 1.5 hours). They called prior to arriving to give me an approximate time which was what I had been given over the phone when I called for the service. They also installed a dimmer in the room (it will be a nursery). Overall great experience (used the Angie's list 10% discount)

I would not rate them highly. The guy that came out was not friendly. There was a 10% Angie's List discount, which he did not give me so I had to call the office later and then get it. The office was fine, I just felt that the work was not done as well as it could have been. One of the electric boxes he put in kind of crooked and my husband had to fix it himself. I was not happy with the electrician and I will never use them again. The price, I thought, was fair. I didn't give them a chance to fix it because I didn't want to deal with them anymore.
Description of Work: They moved a switch from one place to another across the wall. We've got an old house, so they had to open up the walls and actually go through the basement. All of that was fine, except they didn't tell us ahead of time that they would not be closing up the walls. I guess maybe that was something I should have known, but I felt like they should have said that up front. They left and they didn't do a good job cleaning up.

Response from Absolute Electrical Contractors LLC
Of course, we're very sorry the member was not pleased, for any reason. There was a week between she received the estimate for the work and when the work was performed. The following statement appeared on the estimate: " Although utmost care will be taken JKJ will not be responsible for any drywall damage due to routing of wires." Our men are electricians, not dry wallers. It would not be to our customer's advantage to have them attempt the repairs. The electricians on the member's job does most of our service calls so many of the A ratings you see are his. It's unlike him to not be very courteous and usually goes out of his way to be helpful and is very careful to clean up well.

My experience with JKJ was very positive from getting the estimate to doing the work. I got an appointment for an estimate in a reasonable amount of time. Jason Larson, the estimator, gave me an behourly and a job rate. I mistakenly elected to use the hourly rate because the circuit was to be mounted to the surface of the wall and I did not think it would take two hours to do the work. I was wrong. It took more than two hours. The electrician who did the work did a very good job and was very competent. The work took longer than predicted because the wiring had to go through wall studs.
Description of Work: Run a circuit from a junction box in a closet to the site in the kitchen where a washer/dryer was to be installed. Connect the dishwasher and disposal under the sink.

Everything went well. I looked up Angie's list and decided on JKJ Electric. I called the listed number and by chance the owner answered the phone. He was not able to schedule an appointment for me on the phone but his assistant called me back within 5 minutes and sent an electrician to my home within 1 hour. The electrician was quick to find the problem (malfunctioned outlets in the kitchen) and he replaced them all within an hour. The whole group (the owner, his assitant, and the electrician) handled my job very well and professional. I don't know the current market price for electrician work so I cannot comment on the price but I am OK with what they charged me for the service they provided. I will use this company again.

I used JKJ to help me with the wiring for a kitchen remodeling. Jason from JKJ was awesome -- responsive, affordable, and more than willing to work with me to figure out how best to meet code requirements and come in at budget. Jason and his crew were even willing to work on Saturday to make sure the project stayed on schedule, handled the permit process with DC, and was willing to check over some work I had done myself to ensure it was up to code. I would definitely use JKJ again and recommend them highly.
Description of Work: JKJ performed the wiring for a kitchen remodel, including running new circuits, wiring, installing a subpanel, providing advice on layout and code requirements, and obtaining the necessary permits form the city.

.I called on 11/29 to schedule an appointment to have an electrical outlet in a fireplace removed. The difficultly was determining where the wire was connected to the power line. They were able to schedule my job for the first thing the next day (between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.). The guys showed up at 7:30 and promptly got to work, did a little searching, found the where the outlet was connected and disconnected and removed the outlet...all in less than a hour. The guys were courteous and very professional. I would definitely recommend them and use them for any upcoming jobs.

,Everything related to the experience was very good aside from the total cost. (see above)
Description of Work: I called JKJ to remedy the cause of my diningroom chandelier blinking occasionally. Two men arrived within the window of time agreed, even calling to say it would not be at the beginning of the time slot, which was fine. They tested various possibilities (including the chandelier itself), replacing the dimmer switch (proved not to be the cause of the problem but I accepted it since the switch was old). They found loose neutral wires in several place on that particular circuit; correcting them seems to have solved the blinking chandelier problem (time will tell). I should have asked their hourly rate when I called for an appointment since I was surprised to be charged $480 (plus $25 for the dimmer switch but minus 10% coupon)) for 3.5 hours of their time. Perhaps I'm out of touch with reality, but $135 an hour seemed high to me.

JKJ Electric Inc. performed an outstanding job from beginning to end. First, I requested an estimate and the technician came and provided the estimate. The estimator was very careful to ensure that it was understood what I wanted and provided expert advice on what was needed. The estimate arrived in the mail promptly. I called the office to schedule the service call with Sharron and the appointment was 2 days later. Victor and another technician arrived to our home on time with the complete details of what I requested. The services were performed, I was advised of each step of the process. The completed work was outstanding and the final payment was lower than the estimate . It was a pleasure doing business with JKJ Electric Co. and all of its staff. Thank you.

The technicians arrived on time, found the problems quickly, and had them repaired in a short period of time. As an add on, I did ask them if they could install an outside plug on the front of my house. They most graciously obliged and had all of the work done in a very short time. Because the addition of the outside plug required the moving of a light sensor for my outside pole lamp, they discovered that the light bulb had burned out...they even replaced it for me...now, that is what I call service! I would most certainly use JKJ Electric for any future electrical problems I might have, and I would highly recommend them to everyone else. They were on time, very courteous, efficient, and very reasonably priced!

I was very impressed right from the start. We found JKJ due to their good rating on Angies List. They gave us a great price, including an Angie's list discount. They were quite a bit less expensive than the other estimates that we received. Two men came to handle the project. They were very nice, explained everything and finished within the original time frame they had given me. Unfortunately, my water main is under the kitchen sink and by code the system has to be grounded there. They ran the line, making as few holes in the kitchen as possible. When they were finished, they replaced the wallboard and I will just have to spackle and repaint. They took their time and labeled all the circuits on the new box. My electrical panel is better documented now than it was before. When they finished, they cleaned up everything beautifully. They explained that I would have to call Montgomery County to have their work inspected and then PEPCO to rewire from the meter to the house. I had my Montgomery County inspection this morning and the inspector asked who did the project. He said he was very impressed with the quality of the install and the time taken to install the wiring cleanly. He said you don't see much of that anymore. I called JKJ and they told me they will take care of following up with PEPCO (which could take a while) even though their part is officially done. Very pleased with the level of customer service, job well done.
Description of Work: We needed to upgrade our electric from 100 amp to 200 amp service (heavy-up). They installed a new electric panel, ran a ground to the water main and did the temporary connection from the meter to the new box until PEPCO comes out to finalize the connection. Once done, they labeled all the circuits in the new box.

The men arrived on time, assessed the problem quickly, and took care of the line in the garage and in the house. Part of the problem involved the cable connection near the electric meter . All is working properly thanks to their expertise. Due to Hurricane Irene and also some later problems locally with flooding about a week later, we had to reschedule the appointment twice. That request was also accomplished in a minimum of time. Great service all around!
Description of Work: The telephone line went out during an electrical storm. Verizon came out and worked in the garage only, restoring some branches of the telephone line but not others because they don't go into homes. We needed the main connection from the garage to the family room restored.

When I called JKJ Electric to get an estimate on a broken switch to my garbage disposal, the receptionist suggested I try resetting the disposal first in case it wasn't the electric. I couldn't find the button so made a date for JKJ to come out. She had also told me that because I found them on Angie's List, there would be a 10% discount. They arrived promptly and immediately replaced the broken switch. They also found the disposal reset button, used a special tool to clear out the underside of the disposal, THEN found a small spoon in the teeth of the disposal that we didn't know was there. They saved us a plumber bill for sure. I appreciate service persons who go above and beyond and these two certainly did. It was a good experience beginning witn the JKJ receptionist herself. Description of Work: We had two problems. JKJ replaced the broken switch that turns on our garbage disposal. The second problem was solved when he found the reset button on the underside of the disposal, used one of his tools to clear out the inside of the disposal under the sink, then found a very small spoon in the teeth of the disposal. Both are now working perfectly.

I called 14 "A ated Angie's List "electricians and only got 5 call backs. I did have to play phone tag with JKJ Electric to set up an estimate, but Jason was able to come out within a few days for the estimate. JKJ was the "middle estimate" of the 3 I actually got, I was able to schedule the work for the following week. Paul and another man arrived ready to work, with all the necessary equipment. They were very professional and neat. They asked my preferences for location of installation where appropriate and finished quickly. They cleaned up and hauled away the old fixtures. I am very satisfied.

They were a little on the high side and they weren’t getting it all right. They came out but they weren’t as good as the other one. They were fine and they didn’t do anything wrong. The price was just higher than we wanted. It’s really not fair because there was a little miscommunication on my part. My husband wanted some other stuff done that I didn’t convey to the guy which would have made it even higher. So when my husband called another company, they gave an estimate over the telephone and it was $500 less than what this guy originally quoted and so it was better. There’s nothing bad about JKJ but it’s just the estimate that didn’t come in right for us. I don’t remember how much they quoted us. They didn’t do anything wrong but it’s just the price that was too high for us. We will not use their services again in the future.

I received a call early in the day stating that my technician had a family emergency (father had a heart attack!), but that JKJ could send out another technician 2 hours later than scheduled if that would suit us. We agreed. The technician called to say he'd been delayed in traffic and would it still be O.K. to come. It would! So, I gave them good marks for communication at least. The technician introduced himself and his assistant politely when they arrived. He listened carefully to the list of problems, assigned his assistant to start taking things apart and worked rapidly thru the issues. He had a dimmer switch in stock in his truck. The loose wiring was diagnosed and fixed in minutes. I've had two other electricians refuse to look at the ceiling fan (there's a matched set in the sun room!). The lamp repair store doesn't work on ceiling fans either... Imagine my excitement when I found someone willing to look at it! The electrician said he used to work on ceiling fans, so he'd give it a shot. Parts sprang out of the fan when he opened it up. He looked everything over and said I needed a new receiver which would cost about $4 at Home Depot. He said it would be another service charge to return or I could take a shot at it:-) He gave me some instructions in case I decided to tackle the job. The ceiling fan works now and it was just as easy as he said! The new ceiling fan that everyone else recommended would have cost $125 and wouldn't have matched the other one in the room. The 10% discount for Angie's List members also saved about $16. I ended up paying $165 with the parts included after the discount. If you deduct the cost of the new ceiling fan, it was like paying $40 to get some very annoying problems fixed. What a deal! JKJ will be tops on our list for any future electrical problems:-) Thanks to JKJ and Angies List for helping us find great service!
Description of Work: We had a sconce that had stopped working (dimmer switch turned out to be bad), an intermittent bathroom light/fan (loose wiring) and a ceiling fan that the kids strangled with a balloon string several years ago.

What a pain in the neck and waste of time!! I should back up by saying they did come and do some of the work and it was, as far as I can tell, good work. HOWEVER, here's the rest of the story. I got the estimate in person and scheduled the service. I shut down my life for the day waiting for them to arrive. I called twice a couple of hours apart to see when they were coming, but there was no answer. I finally got a phone call back an hour or so later from the nicest woman who apologized. She said I was not on the schedule for the day and that since she was on vacation the week before and the guys set it up, they must have messed up the scheduling. She apologized again and set up another appointment for the following week, this time with a 7:30am-8:30am arrival time window. I was angry that I had waited all day for them but felt a bit better having spoken with her. The very next morning as I was running out the door to put kids on the school bus, the electricians arrived unnannounced to do my work! Unprepared for them, I could only give them a few hours to work before I had prior commitments I had to take care of. They completed the most concerning task and we agreed they could finish the other things when they came at the SCHEDULED appointment the next week. They agreed to wait to be paid until then when we could put all the "jobs" on one bill together. The day of the appointment I waited for them to arrive, and waited, and waited. Finally around 10:30am I gave up and ran my scheduled errands. They never contacted me and so far I have not contacted them, this being now a week and a half later. Because I still owe them more than $500 for the work done so far and shocked that they have made no effort to contact me to collect it and/or reschedule, I will for my own conscience request a bill and pay it. I will NEVER use them again only because I can't sit around all day waiting for no one. I do appreciate the work they DID do and the kindness of the woman I spoke with, but that is all.
Description of Work: They figured out why my daughter's bedroom outlets had no power supply and fixed the problem. They put in a new outlet in my hallway. They replaced my old smoke alarms and planned to come back and wire them together so if one goes off, they all go off.

I called JKJ for an estimate in February 2011 along with one other Angie's List-recommended electrician. Jason, the JKJ project estimator, was able to come out within a day or two of my initial call, and I found him to be prompt, courteous, and informative about the planned work (as a side note, I liked him much better and found him to be more courteous than the project estimator from the competitor). JKJ came back with an estimate that was significantly less expensive than the competitor (by about $300), but I delayed in accepting the bid due to other projects being done around the house. When I finally got around to calling them about a month after receiving the initial bid, I was told they were able to come out the next morning! Paul and his assistant showed up promptly within the offered window (I was given a window of 7:30-8:30am, and they showed up around 7:45), and they got straight to work. There was about an hour added to the job on account of unexpected issues requiring supplies that weren't on hand, and in a perfect world, I would have liked for those supplies to have been on hand just in case. But in all, I was happy to have someone who was willing to get the necessary parts to get the desired result, so it was worth the wait. When questions or explanations were necessary, Paul was able to communicate them concisely and effectively. He also gave a mark down of over 60% on one line item of the bill because it was less work than estimated, which I obviously appreciated. Even with electrical work, I am someone who is willing to try do projects myself, so I was a little hesitant to hire someone for what seemed like a relatively straightforward wiring job, but in the end I am very happy to have hired JKJ and would definitely hire them again for similar work.
Description of Work: New wiring for undermount cabinet lighting; new wiring for two ceiling fixtures; and connecting recessed lighting previously run off of different switches.
