We've used Wheaten Animal Hospital for about 3 years for our 15 & 18 year old dogs. Made several 3 or 4 visits six months apart for our oldest dog monitoring his quality of life & discussing when to know "it was time." The Saturday morning he was unable to stand and had lost some mental functioning overnight (due to a stroke per the emergency clinic) our regular doctor was "too busy to see him." Instead of spending his last hour in a place he was familiar with & with his regular vet, we had our dog put to sleep @ an emergency clinic. We were disappointed & disillusioned with Wheaten Animal Hospital and will not use their services again.

I was concerned over this, so I got a same-day apt with Dr. Johnson.  She basically looked at the eye, said it was probably the dog version of "red eye", gave me some eye drops and sent me home.  The entire visit was maybe 10minutes.  The eye got a little better then began getting worse again, so I consulted a veterinary ophthalmologist.  My dog had acute glaucoma with severe pressure and inflammation.  Further, she had lost some vision in that eye.  She is doing better now, but a simple pressure check that day by Dr. Johnson (the vet ophthalmologist said Wheaton Animal Hospital had the equipment to do it) could have possible save some sight in that eye.  As other reviewers have said, for routing stuff they are fine, albeit very expensive (neutering my dog was $600).  I do want to say that Dr. Gary Schwartz is one of the few that works on avian issues, and he has been great with my bird.

Their prices are higher than some but not as high as Lockville Veterinarians. I love them and I go because of the vet, Dr. Gary Schwartz. He's a good man and not just putting them to sleep. The staff is very pleasant, we are seen on time and I have confidence in them.

This vet has provided a variety of services for our cats and dog. They are fine for routine work as they are well located e.g. vaccinations but I would not use them for diagnosis, anything complex or surgery. They mis-diagnosed my dog with cateracts - second opinion revealed a different issue and missed her heart condition. They are expensive compared with other providers and also not able to be flexible if you need a short notice appointment as they are pretty busy.

I had been going there for 15 years and have referred many friends to Wheaton. I will not refer people any more. I usually pay up front and get great work done. They have been there for me for multiple ill animals but this time was horrible.

Everyone here has a love for animals, they interact with my dog the moment he enters the door! The annual check-up went well, but it seems as if the veterinarian wanted to do a culture for everything he found. That made the bill rise very quickly. I would like for them to tell me the cost, and ask my permission before doing anything that will cost more than $50.

If I had a better vet I would my pet there. I use them because they are local and I guess you would say they are accommodating, but the wait times are astronomical and that is the downside of going there. Even if you have an appointment at a scheduled time you could wind up waiting for an hour. I will use them again in the future because I have no alternative.

Dr. Scheiner was very helpful in answering questions and following up by phone, even halfway through surgery to tell me what she had found and how she wanted to proceed. Generally, a lump in this area does not have a good prognosis in cats, but Dr. Scheiner gave several other possible diagnoses besides cancer. (I was told by another vet who makes housecalls but does not do xrays and surgery that it likely was cancer.) The biopsy took almost a week to come back, and happily it is not cancer. Dr. Scheiner had my cat come in to be checked because she wasn't eating well after the surgery. There was no charge for that. However, the total price was very expensive, but I don't know if it would have been any cheaper anywhere else. We have been seen very promptly at each visit, minimizing the time my cat has to spend in the waiting room around other pets.

I use them all the time. It cost me probably $150 to $200 during my last visit but I don't remember exactly. They are generally adequate. They are thorough and they are generally very good. There is one doctor whose name I do not know and she provides a lot of ideas without giving me ideas about how to implement them for complicated cat issues. It did not seem like she understood the reality of the situation. The doctors are thorough and adequate but don't always listen to my concerns with a lot of compassion.

Quality of the medical care appears good, but is probably too exhaustive. Everytime I go to Wheaton Animal Hospital I spent over $300., even for very minor injuries. Vet insists upon doing x-rays all the time and suggests many procedures, medications, pain killers, even valium. Your pockets will be empty by the time you get out of there! In one instance, vet was harried and was very rude and brusque, telling me to euthanize my pet if I didn't want to pay $2,000. In the end, for less than half of that, after I selected key procedures, my pet is very much still alive. I did however appreciate a much calmer follow-up call from the vet a week after the hospitalization. (Vet was Dr. Sussman.) At that time she patiently explained a number of details related to the cat's care. Too bad she was so off-the-wall at the time when I needed her to be calm and reasonable.

We saw Dr. Scheiner. She was very responsive and didn't make my dogs get up on the table - she saw them on the floor. The staff was very nice and the appointment was on time. Some of their prices are a bit more than other vets in the area.

Everything went very well. Dr. Bennet was very thorough and discussed my dog's unrelated health issues.

THEY ARE VERY EXPERIENCED VETS, AND THE OFFICE ASSISTANTS ARE FANTASTIC. THEY WALK ANIMALS THAT STAY OVERNIGHT FOLLOWING SURGERY. THEY PLAY WITH THEM TO MAKE THEM FEEL AT HOME.
