Because we were pleased with Mr. Horton's work I called him and asked if he could match the price. He said he could. Then I called back, and asked if I offered him $1,000 would he also install new outlets in the basement and the garage so I would not have to keep the sump pump, the kitchen stove and the dehumidifier on long extension cords, plus provide more outlets in our garage. He said he could do that.
--
He came on the scheduled day, (we asked him to come early since we had a doctor's appointment early in the afternoon. When I got up at 7:15, to be ready when he came around 7:30, he was already at the front door waiting.
--
He used his cell phone, with an assistant at the main panel, and went through the house checking what was connected to each circuit. Then, together we chose the circuits that would connect to the manual 6 circuit generator switch. Then he went to work; He completed all the work -- walked me through every step of moving the generator from its garage storage, the proper procedure to connect it to the new outside 240 weatherproof outlet, and the steps I should take in starting the generator (with no load on it. Then we turned off the main power box (which he explained we would not have to do if the power was actually off, took me to the new manual transfer switch box, and showed how each circuit switch was labeled (sump pump, refrigerator, hot water heater, bedroom area, living room and kitchen area. I discovered and he explained, that these circuits actually covered more than the label depicted - for example, the dining room is on the living circuit, etc.
We showed me the three position on the switches and explained those. and I switched them to - on - and we walked through the house noting that everything we had requested was operating, and the additional items on those circuits.
While we were in the basement he showed me the new outlet for the sump pump, and tested it, so I could see the pump was getting the power, and the power outlet for the igniter on the gas stove (the electric cord comes through the kitchen floor - but instead of needed a long extension cord to reach the outlet on the far wall, it now has its own outlet.
Then we went outside and looked at the watt gauge on the generator - and it showed we were not placing too heavy a load on it, and there is more than enough wattage remaining to handle the surge that several of the items require to begin.
After that he showed me that he had hooked up the stationary wire to the "trickle charger and maintainer" equipment I had bought with the generator, and told me about its use. He had changed the 2 outlet box to a 6 outlet box, as I had requested.
--
We went inside and reviewed all the work, and I told him I would write him a check for the agreed upon $1,000. he said, the job did not take as long as he thought, and the bill would be $950.00.
He cleaned up from his work, gave me the manual for the Reliance Transfer Switch before he left.
We will certainly call Mr. Horton is we need additional electric work.
The work he did was professional and good quality. He also has fantastic customer relations skills. he was patient with my barking dogs and my constant questions. I was so pleased, that I definetly intend to have him back to complete future projects. Thank you Mr. Horton!!
